1956 Mercury Medalist on 2040-cars
Mena, Arkansas, United States
Mileage: 100,000
Model: Monterey
Here for auction is a 1956 Mercury Montclair 2 door HT. This car started life in western Montana until it ended up in a scrap yard to be rescued and brought down to Grand Junction Colorado to be used as a parts car. Was then rescued again and the process of putting it back together began. It looks as though someone has replaced most of the lower sheet metal like rockers, lower front fenders, lower rear quarters and some floor patches were made but not installed all the way(they aren't welded in). The front and rear seats have had some new seat covers. When I purchased the car it was in the barn for quite some time. I then took the time to track down all previous owners to obtain original title that was long lost. Once that was successful I proceeded to make road worthy. All lights, brakes, fuel system, exhaust, and wiring have been gone through and is in working order. There is some trim missing (from being a parts car) but is all available with a little hunting(half the fun anyway). This would make a great Father/Son project, or a great start to a full restoration. Or someone could just drive it just the way it is. This is a running driving everything works car. I had planned on installing a 1996-1998 Cobra mustang engine swap that comes with car if the Buy It Now Option. Came from good running Lincoln Mark 8, and comes with trans, ECU, radiator, and all wiring needed. Please feel free to call with any questions or offers. Thanks Rich (772)485-3053.

Ford Recalling 70k Escape and Mariner Hybrids for cooling issue
Fri, 12 Sep 2014Ford is recalling about 70,209 examples of the 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and the 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid because the cooling pumps for their hybrid systems could fail.
According to the company's defect notice, it's possible for the original "Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump" to wear out and fail, which would could cause the hybrid system to overheat. If this happens, the vehicle goes into a safety mode that takes away most or all of its power. However, braking and steering still operate normally. After cooling down, the affected models restart normally. The company says that it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will begin repairing the vehicles in late October, and dealers will be installing improved, brushless pumps on the affected models at no charge to owners. If drivers had their pumps fail before this recall, they can contact Ford for a possible reimbursement. Scroll down to read the recall announcement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or download the full defect notice as a PDF, here.
Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues
Wed, 28 Dec 2011'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
