1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible. All original 290 HP 351 Windsor V8, T-type center floor automatic transmission shifter (Merc-O-Matic) transmission. This is an all original car. She is a great “Daily Driver.” The interior is in excellent condition—previous owner was an upholsterer. This is a California “Black Plate” car. The top is newer and the entire top mechanism works perfectly. All of the gauges work, wipers, lights (yes, the light doors operate). The steering wheel horn assembly is non-op. This is not an A/C car. The VIN is 9F92H; 9 = 69 F = Dearborn Mich, 92 = Convertible (very few cars were made for this being the first year the convertible was offered,) H = 351 Windsor. The engine was recently rebuilt, and it shows. She runs like a honey needing speed. New battery, dist. Cap, rotor, and wires. New Interstate (heavy duty 1000 CCA) battery w/ new cables—not shown in photo but is now installed in the car, new starter and solenoid too. This car has been very well taken care of—and it shows. It is NOT an X-R7 nor is it an Eliminator—it does have the stripping down the sides for the Eliminator. The engine oil pan gasket has minor oil leak, and the transmission speedo gear o-ring seal is leaking. The paint is NOT the original color, the “door tag” is not
there—so I do not know the original color. It appears to be a newer paint job,
but does have minor paint chips—see pictures. No dents, and yes, the car does
shine well in the sun—see pics too. No rust found anywhere, there is a carpet
kit installed in the trunk, and it is glued down on the sides, looking from
underneath the floor pans look great. The main frame does not appear to have been on a frame straightener; so, looks like no major accidents. The entire undercarriage was cleaned, see pics, looks like when they did a restoration, it was not a full “FRAME-OFF,” but a thorough job was. The car drives well, no pulling of the steering wheel, no braking problems, and the car shifts well. All four tires a new, w/ less than 50 miles on them. I did have the rear trunk lid chrome piece refurbished—it came out great; all other chrome is in great condition w/o any pitting or flaking. This is your opportunity to own a convertible classic w/ great looks and HP to take it around for a cruise. Please read the following--before you bid! The car is for sale locally; so I could end auction at any time. Please send your inspector BEFORE you bid on the car. Inspections are encouraged and welcomed. It is your responsibility to verify to the cars true "originality;" you pay your mechanic to tear down the engine to verify. Any photos you want, of any area of the car, I will take and send it to you via email. |

Ford recalls 600,000 older-model sedans for braking issue
Fri, Dec 20 2019Ford is recalling 600,166 older-model Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles over an issue that could affect braking and increase the risk of a crash. The safety recall covers certain Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2006 through 2010 model years that were built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009. Ford says a valve that is normally closed inside the hydraulic control unit may get stuck in the open position or be slow to close, which could make it harder to engage the brakes and increase risk of a crash. Ford says itÂ’s aware of 15 reports of accidents and two injuries possibly related to the issue. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic control unit for signs of the problem and replace it, if necessary. The dealers will pressure-flush the system with brake fluid and replace the reservoir cap with a new one. Ford is also issuing a small recall of 33 of its 2020 F-150 trucks in the U.S. and 51 in Canada over potentially damaged spare tires. It says the bead area on the tires may have been damaged when it was mounted onto the wheel assembly, leaving it vulnerable to corrosion, separation of the bead wire and ultimately a rapid loss of air pressure and detachment from the wheel. Dealers will replace the spare tire. Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Nov. 10-21 of this year.
Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri
Mon, Sep 19 2016Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:
Ford Announces Free Brake-Pad Offer If Customers Stop By Dealers
Mon, Aug 4 2014These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers. "We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts. Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1. "This program reflects our commitment to providing customers with an excellent ownership experience regardless of the age of their vehicle," said Frederiek Toney, President of Ford Customer Service, in the company's announcement of the offer.
