I am listing a 1968 Cougar XR-7 metallic gold with a black vinyl roof. With a 302 automatic 2 barrel carburetor with A/C Power steering and Power Brakes. I purchased the vehicle about 5 months ago off of Ebay. The gentleman advertised the car as no rust, which is correct. The floor pans and lower quarters have been replaced. The original color on the car was Nugget Gold (Code Y). The interior is the XR-7 Black Leather Bucket seats (Code 6A). The story behind the car as was told, it was purchased from a estate sale from the original owner. Was then stripped and repainted a high gloss (close to the original color metallic gold), paint job is immaculent The odometer is showing 13, 932 was also thought to be original miles on the vehicle. Which I can not guarentee. The car starts and runs, extremely well. Like all A/C systems from that time period needs a hose replaced and a proper charge on the system. Don't be fooled in to someone suggesting changing to 134a refrigerant when they have a drop in R12 replacement allowing you to use existing components. We are posting as many pictures as possible, and will be glad to answer any email questions aswell as provide additional pictures. We will be glad to assist in loading the vehicle. I have described this car to the best of my knowledge. I would probably invest in a master cylinder for the brakes, brakes seem to be holding up but seems a little weak. Also there is a small scratch above the XR-7 on the vinyl roof, looks to be a screwdriver mark when placing XR-7 Label, It would be a easy repair. I feel the car is excelent driver and for the money you definitely can't go wrong. Additional parts I assume removed from the car when undergoing new paint are included. I am listing the car locally and have the right to close auction early if needed, Thanks for your consideration.

*This vehicle is being sold AS-IS. No warrantee offered nor implied*

*Please check out my other options on (2) XR-7G's*

*Buyer pays all shipping fees*

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.

Junkyard Gem: 1993 Mercury Topaz GS Sedan

Sat, Aug 13 2022

As long as the Mercury brand existed — a period spanning the 1939 through 2011 model years — nearly every Mercury sold in the United States was more or less a redecorated Ford model. The Torino had its Montego sibling, the Crown Victoria had the Grand Marquis, the Cougar was based on everything from the Mustang to the Mondeo, and so on. Naturally, when the folks in Dearborn developed the Ford Tempo compact, a Mercury version had to be created. This was the Topaz, with the official launch of both cars taking place on the deck of the aircraft carrier often referred to as the USS Decrepit. You can't make this stuff up! The Tempo/Topaz, also known as the Tempaz, has largely faded from our collective automotive memory by now, since it broke no significant new engineering or styling ground (this story would be much different if Ford had only put the amazing straight-eight "T-Drive" Tempaz powertrain into production) and didn't have any endearing features other than being a cheap domestic competitor to the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra. Still, close to 3 million Tempazes left North American Ford and Lincoln-Mercury showrooms during the 1984-1994 period. As you'd expect, most of these disposable cars disappeared from both the street and the car graveyard long ago. It takes a very special Tempaz for me to break out my camera while I'm patrolling my local wrecking yards; generally, this means an ultra-rare all-wheel-drive version or at least a very early model in super-clean condition. Today's Junkyard Gem is neither, but I took one look at this spectacular Bordello Red crypto-velour-and-slippery-plastic interior and recognized that this was no ordinary junkyard Mercury. It appears that Mercury had dropped the idea of clever names for base-grade seat fabrics by the time of the Topaz, referring to this stuff as just "cloth" in all the brochures I could find. That's too bad, because Mercurys had cool names for upholstery (e.g., Chromatex) in the old days. The interior is in very good condition but the steering wheel shows substantial wear, so I think this is a high-mile Topaz that got meticulous care from its owner or owners. Ford used five-digit odometers on these cars until the end of production, however, so we'll never know if this reading indicates 65,404 miles or 365,404 miles. The body is very straight, but there's some nasty corrosion behind the right front wheelwell.
