1960 Comet Up for auction, here is a fun to drive first-year 1960 Comet! This car has the inline 6 cylinder engine and a manual 3-speed transmission. It has had a little restoration work by a previous owner but is believed to be mostly original. We bought the car for my wife about three years ago. It is just like the family car she grew up with, and I was trying to get her interested in the car hobby with me. She liked the idea, but quickly lost interest in the car. I drive it around the neighborhood every couple of weeks or so, and it is a lot of fun with the column shift manual. I don't really have enough time to drive or work on the car, and no good place to store it now, so it needs to go to a new home where it will get proper use and care. Condition: The engine starts right up and the transmission seems to work fine. Brakes, lamps, and all accessories are working. I'm not exactly sure if the engine is original, but the previous owner said it was a 200ci, which would have been an upgrade. The odometer reads 81,943 but I do not know if this is actual miles. The interior of the car is very nice overall - the seats are not torn and the black carpet is nice. The headliner is a little rough, but not bad. The interior lamp lens has crumbled. It has a nice aftermarket radio, mounted under the dash - dash cutout was not modified. The tires were new when we bought it and have full tread. Since purchase, I've replaced one flexible brake hose - and recently it has begun to sound like the exhaust manifold gasket is leaking - but otherwise have had no problems. The exterior of the car presents well. On closer look, it is apparent that the previous owner had inferior paint work done, and there is some rust and filler underneath the paint in the lower quarters which is coming through now. I do not see evidence of any major accident repairs, and I don't think it would take much to make the car very nice. The previous owner did not reveal the rust to us, and knowing better, we took his word and did not pre-inspect the car. I don't recommend that.... This is a great way to get into a cool old car without spending a ton of money. The 'cat-eye' taillights are awesome, and only came on the car for the first two years, before the car was added to the Mercury line. We'll really miss the car. We've driven the car around the neighborhood often and it has run fine. We have not made a long road trip with it, so I don't suggest one until you've gone through it first. It is 50+ years old! Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Ford recalling 450,000 Fusion, Mercury Milan sedans
Tue, Nov 24 2015Ford has announced a pair of recalls, and both are critical safety issues. The exponentially larger of the two recall campaigns affects over 450,000 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans manufactured at the Hermosillo plant between July 21, 2008, and March 4, 2011. The canister purge valve in the fuel tank could malfunction and could cause the top of the tank to crack and leak fuel. That could cause a fire, although Ford "is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires" resulting from the issue. Affected vehicles will have their ECU software updated and their fuel tanks inspected for potential replacement. The company estimates there are 411,205 affected units in the United States (and its federalized territories), plus another 33,605 in Canada, and 7,055 in Mexico. The second recall affects 13 F-650 trucks. The column shifter's park position mechanism may fracture and let the truck roll away unexpectedly. Those 2016 models built in Ohio between July 29 and September 3, 2015 are all located in the US. Fixing the problem will require replacing the steering column and reconfiguring the instrument panel. FORD ISSUES TWO SAFETY RECALLS IN NORTH AMERICA DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 23, 2015 – Ford Motor Company is issuing two safety recalls in North America. Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to these conditions. Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues
Wed, 28 Dec 2011'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
