Mercedes C-Class coupe spied undisguised
Wed, May 27 2015The closer that it gets to an official unveiling, the more camouflage the Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe is stripping off. These latest spy shots show the two-door with a largely undisguised front end, but the rear is still concealed. In general, the C-Class coupe looks quite similar to its four-door counterpart, but the two-door wears some unique parts to make it appear a little sportier. As with the previously spied example, the designers move the side mirrors to the doors, instead of the corner of the A-pillars, and there's a single-bar grille up front. Despite the camouflage, these shots give a clear view of the model's sleeker silhouette, as well. At the rear, you can also spy the narrower, wraparound taillights to replace the squarish units on the sedan. Mercedes will reportedly debut this longer, lower take on the C-Class model line at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and sales in Europe will reportedly begin in December. This isn't the last variant to come along, though. Spy shots already show an AMG version of the coupe and a convertible under development. Related Video:
Mercedes spotted testing new S-Class cabrio in the snow
Wed, Feb 25 2015A fullsize luxury convertible is a rare species. There's the Bentley Continental GTC, maybe the Aston Martin DB9 or Vanquish Volante and the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible if you won't need those rear seats too often, but that's about it. The segment seems to be expanding, though, with the imminent arrival of the drop-head version of the Rolls-Royce Wraith and the new challenger you see here. Spied undergoing winter testing in Sweden, this prototype for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet is wearing barely any camouflage or body cladding whatsoever. In all likelihood that's largely because it's essentially the S-Class Coupe we already know, but with a folding fabric roof: Mercedes typically keeps the origami tin-tops to two-seaters like the SL and SLK. When the new S-Class cabrio is ready to launch – probably sometime between now and the summer – it'll join an expanding array of convertible Benzes that already includes the aforementioned SL and SLK and the E-Class Cabriolet, and will soon adopt the AMG GT roadster as well. Mercedes Unimog poised for Canadian return
Sun, Jun 28 2015The Mercedes-Benz Unimog, the super-duper heavy-duty off-road workhorse vehicle that the German automaker has been making for more than 60 years, may soon be sold in Canada once again after a hiatus. Regulators had taken issue with both their emissions (super torquey diesel engines don't tend to run real clean) and the fact that some folks would take them out on city streets and even highways (these beasts have a top speed of about 25 miles per hour). Now, regulatory officials are considering allowing the Unimog to be sold in Canada again, albeit under strictly off-road driving regulations, Canada's Driving says. In fact, the diesel trucks apparently run a lot cleaner than they used to, while the torque levels remain off the charts. Naturally, some folks are clamoring for them because of their ability to run on just about any terrain. Hans Mross of Vancouver-based Mross Import Service Ltd., which previously imported the Unimog to Canada, told Autoblog he was "99 percent sure" the Unimog would be brought back to Canada. We'd last reported on the Unimog in April 2013, when Mercedes-Benz said it would start selling 10 different versions of the truck.
