S-Class 2-Door Coupes are rare. This one, a 1994, is part of the Model 140 series that began in 1991 and was replaced by the Model 220 series in 1998. The Model 140 was the largest of the S-class and the only model offering a two-door body configuration.  In 1998 the S500 Coupe was re-branded to the CL500. As big as it is, it only seats four. The backseats are as big as the front ones and there is a huge arm rest between them. There are only two seat belts in the backseat. Minor scratches. The bumpers, front and back, were re-conditioned last year; they are like new.

I am the second owner. I bought it on eBay in 2003 from a seller in Santa Barbara. I never had it outside of California except for a trip to Las Vegas and one to Phoenix.

Never smoked in. AC blows cold.

There is a pretty elaborate car-phone but it is incapatable with available service providers.

The speaker grill in the passenger door as a hole it in about the side of a quarter. The speaker itself works.

There is no sign of cracks in the dashboard and just a minor blemish in the wood panel next to the gear shifter. The rest of the wood tirm is in show-room condition. All four seats and the carpter are in very good condition.

The radio provides AM, FM, Cassette, CD, and WB. WB is Weather Band. It works but I can't say I listen to it a lot. The CD mode goes to a six-CD player in the trunk.

When you start the car "arms", one for the driver and one for the frontseat passenger, hand you the seat belt over your sholder. Then they retract. It may take getting use to.

When you put the car in reverse, rear parking markers come up out of the rear fenders about 5 inches. When you move out of reverse they retract. (Hard to get a picture of. You don't want to put the car in reverse and get out to take a picture. I shot one out the back window.)

The double-pane door-glass seals you in. When you open the door, both driver and passenger, the door window retracts about a half-inch. When the door closes the glass returns to a normal closed position inside the rubber window frame. Virually eliminates road noise.

Comes with the original Owners Manual in a black zipper case with the Mecedes star on it.

Comes with a toolkit that fits inside the rim of the spare tire. I've never had to use it.

Comes with a first-aid kit (Original)  that stores in a comparment above the backseat arm rest (marked with a small green cross).

Comes with two remote "keys" and two separate conventional keys. The remote on the passenger side does not aways work but if you use the conventinal key it aways does.

Audi and Mercedes both outsell BMW in January

Tue, Feb 10 2015

There won't be any celebrations in Munich this month, as BMW was outsold by arch-nemeses Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The Bavarian company finished behind Audi in January, which took the top spot for the first time since June of last year, Bloomberg reports. Ingolstadt rode high on a 10-percent bump in sales, while Mercedes saw a larger 14 percent increase. BMW, meanwhile, only saw a modest 6.3-percent sales increase last month, thanks in large part to its struggles in China. The company's sales there increased at about half the rate of its chief competitors, with a 7.9-percent jump to Mercedes and Audi's roughly 15-percent increases. Perhaps more worrying for BMW, though, is that this could become something of a trend for the company. According to Bloomberg, issues with Chinese dealers who cancelled orders over sales targets and bonuses combined with what the publication calls aging models, could spell bad news for the German marque. "This looks like a pretty significant decline in growth compared to Mercedes and Audi," Bankhaus Metzler analyst Juergen Pieper told Bloomberg. "I think this will continue during the next few months." News Source: BloombergImage Credit: Matthias Schrader / AP Earnings/Financials Audi BMW Mercedes-Benz

Race Recap: 2015 Canadian F1 Grand Prix is better behind the front

Mon, Jun 8 2015

As of Saturday afternoon in Montreal, Canada, it was all about the number four. Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole position for the fourth time at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and now his tally of pole positions matches his race number: 44. Nico Rosberg lines up beside him, which is the fourth time that particular one-two combo has occurred this season. Ferrari spent three engine development tokens to try and close the gap to Mercedes, Kimi Raikkonen making the most of it with third position on the gird. His teammate Sebastian Vettel got the worst of it, however, when the MGU-K unit failed during Q1, leaving him 160 horsepower down and out at the first hurdle. Valtteri Bottas put a revitalized Williams on the grid at fourth, ahead of a Lotus lockout of the third row with Romain Grosjean leading the way in fifth, Pastor Maldonado just beside. Nico Hulkenberg got the first Sahara Force India into seventh – the team is still waiting on the upgraded B car that should be available for Austria – ahead of Daniil Kvyat in the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing and a "pissed off" Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull. Sergio Perez made it two Force Indias in the top ten, a welcome result from a team performing below expectations of late. When the lights went out, at the very front it was much ado about not that much at all. Hamilton got away clean and stabbed across the track to close the door for Rosberg, giving Raikkonen a chance to take the inside line into Turn 1 in an attempt to clear Rosberg for second place. That didn't happen, leaving the two Mercedes' to run in grid position for the entire race. It wasn't boring – Rosberg stayed close, rubber-banding the time gap to the leader from a little more than one second to just under four seconds, and Montreal is famous for race-rearranging safety cars and on-track incidents. But none of those occurred, so Hamilton crossed the line 2.285 seconds ahead of Rosberg after 70 laps to earn his fourth victory in Canada and the first-ever victory for the Brackley, UK-based Mercedes team. Valtteri Bottas drove his Williams to third position, the first podium place for the team this year and a welcome salve to heal the team's wounds from a poor showing in Monaco. That placing came courtesy of being in the right place at the right time, which was not far behind Raikkonen when the Ferrari driver spun at the hairpin on Lap 28 after his first pit stop.

Mercedes rules out hybrid supercar, promises SLS successor

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The recent Geneva Motor Show was a festival of hypercars, with the presence of not one, but three over-the-top debuts: the Lamborghini Veneno, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LeFerrari. The latter two have hitched their carbon fiber bumpers to the electrification bandwagon by using hybrid-electric powertrains not entirely unlike the propulsion systems we've come to know in cars like the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt. Does that mean the flow of electrons up the four-wheeled food chain will eventually consume our hallowed supercars? Not if AMG has anything to say about it.
AMG Director of Vehicle Development Tobias Moers recently confirmed that not only will there be a successor to the Mercedes-Benz performance division's SLS AMG, he notes that its internal combustion engine will most definitely not be sharing living quarters with an electric drivetrain. Instead, AMG plans to focus on further pushing the power and efficiency envelope of the internal combustion engine and advancing the use of lightweight materials to achieve their goals. The first example of this effort can be seen in the new SLS AMG Black Series that incorporates many weight-saving techniques to shed some 154 pounds from the SLS AMG GT (above), which itself is lighter than the standard SLS AMG.
Furthermore, Moers remarks that his company is happy to leave the hypercar segment to companies like Ferrari and McLaren. He admits that, "Ferrari in the hyper-car segment is still a different brand than AMG. We have to be honest..." So rather than taking the SLS further upmarket to do battle with bulls and stallions, Moers hinted that the next-generation SLS may be joined by another performance model that fits neatly between itself and the C63 AMG.
