Here is my 1985 Mercedes Benz 300sd Turbo Diesel with 283k miles! I have had this car for about 4 years, It was bought new by my uncle and he drove it most of its life in Maryland. It was the past on to me. It is my daily driver, I have taken this car on MANY trips all over the east coast. There is nothing more comfortable and economical than this thing. It runs and drives great!!!

Here is what I have done! (I have receipts for all of it too)

~new brakes
~new tires (like 3 months old so maybe 1500 miles on them)
~new fuel filters ( the car has 3 on it 2 cheap ones and 1 canister like filter)
~new primer pump for injector pump ( ran it out of fuel once and realized that the hand pump or primer pump was bad)
~new "banjo Bracket" on the Turbo. ( I took the turbo apart to clean and I broke this bracket so i replaced it and cleaned the turbo it was like a whole new car!!!)
~Ran new vacuum tubing trough the doors to get the door locks to all work the old ones hardened and broke. (its kinda cool, if you lock one door they all look including the trunk and the gas door)
~new power antenna (this I actually bought brand new from Mercedes)
~new Ignition Switch ( also bought this new from Mercedes. The old one was worn out where the "tumbler" goes, even though it was a nightmare I did get it in and it works as it should, steering lock and all)
~this Car has been Undercoated, Has been since my uncle owed it. I have done it once since I have owed it and it seems like it is fine!
~Obviously have maintained changing the oil and filters as this is the MOST IMPORTANT FOR THESE OLD MERCEDES!!! ( I am very anal about that)

Here is what I had Professionally done!

~new transmission ( The original transmission was getting tired and I noticed some "play" so rather than waiting for it to leave me stranded I decide to see if I could find one. I did in fact have one put in I bought it right here from Ebay! it was re-                                 manufactured! Had it put in and it was like a totally different vehicle.)
~new engine mounts (was suggested by Mercedes to get rid of some of the vibration... i didn't really notice it that much until they where replaced and I got the car back, I was like WOW it is so smooth haha)
~new fluid in the rear end. ( this was also suggested by Mercedes and I said "well whatever since you have it there" so they did.
~ new carrier barring, (this was not really giving me a problem but i have had trouble with them in the past on other vehicles and so it was cheap so i said to replace that too!)

Here is what needs done ( or at least what I think it in no way effects the car what so ever)

~needs new windshield (I was tailgating a dump truck and a rock cam down and made this tiny chip and before to long it was creeping its way across the whole thing...i was sooo pissed!!!) but to be honest the windshield was so pitted anyway                                      from 280k miles of bugs and debris!
~needs new drivers seat. (again if you can live with the 4 inch rip in the seat then this is not a pressing issue.) Both front seats could use some added "stuff n fluff" as my uncle and his wife were not exactly thin!
~needs the air conditioning recharged. I have retrofitted it and had it professionally vacuumed but it only lasted one summer and After that I didn't mess with it. I ONLY DRIVE THIS CAR IN GOOD WEATHER PA WILL DESTROY YOUR CAR!

All in all I thing this would be a GREAT car for someone who likes these old Mercedes I have seen some of these things that look like they have been beat to hell and back and low and behold they are still running strong. I assure you I would not hesitate to get in this car right now and take off for the west coast. There has been many times with my work that I have been told I have to go on a trip and I come home, pack my stuff and go in style. It is a beautiful car going down the highway and they are even greater once all of the gadgets and buttons and lights work. I have pretty much done all of that. Everything that it needs I have listed and tried to take pictures of. Thanks for reading and good luck!

Chris Harris and David Coulthard wring out a Mercedes Fintail at the N"urburgring

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

If there's one thing we've learned from the latest video from Drive, it's that the combination of Chris Harris and David Coulthard will produce some very quotable moments. Take this exchange, for example.
DC: "We are by some way the slowest."
CH: "But we're in a class of three cars, apparently."

Race Recap: 2015 Hungarian Grand Prix is Magyar for 'What a race!'

Mon, Jul 27 2015

Every driver on the Formula 1 grid dreams of taking home the silverware, but only one driver each year can do it. Barring disaster in 2015 it looks like it's going to be Lewis Hamilton. The Brit has been so dominating at the front of the grid on Saturday, we can't see how he'll miss out on winning the second annual FIA Pole Position Trophy. That's the accolade introduced last season in another manufactured attempt to give drivers something to work for on Saturday, since the FIA felt leading into the first corner didn't have the pull it used to. Hamilton took his ninth pole of the season in Hungary for Mercedes-AMG Petronas with a crushing lap that put him almost six tenths ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg in second. All Hamilton needs is one more spot at the top of the grid this season, and he's the Pole Position trophy winner. Thrilling stuff. Behind Rosberg the gaps stayed smaller, Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari a little more than a tenth behind Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing less than four one-hundredths behind Vettel. We feel almost as vexed watching Kimi Raikkonen as he feels driving – he's finally got a good Ferrari, now he can't get a good weekend. The front wing broke on his car in Free Practice 1, then a water leak in Free Practice 3 robbed him of setup time on the soft tire. He lines up in fifth about two tenths behind Ricciardo. The slow, tight Hungaroring didn't agree with the Williams chassis, Valtteri Bottas the first of the Grove team drivers in sixth, his teammate Felipe Massa two places back. Between them is Daniil Kvyat in the second Red Bull in seventh. Teenager Max Verstappen put in a good showing in the Toro Rosso to grab ninth, while Romain Grosjean in a wriggling, squishy, sliding Lotus classified his appearance in Q3 at all as "a miracle." As for the race that followed, we don't expect to see another like it for a long time – it was the real thrilling stuff, one shock after another. The drama began after the first parade lap, when Felipe Massa lined up out of position and the start was aborted. The drivers did another parade lap, then lined up with everyone in place. Mercedes got swamped as soon as the lights went out. Vettel ran around both of them and led the race into the first turn, Raikkonen had come from fifth to third by Turn 1, then got the inside line on Rosberg through Turn 2 to take second place.

Mercedes S-Class Cabrio caught nearly naked

Thu, Feb 19 2015

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a handsome car, and its new two-door variant is positively dashing. Considering that, did you really think Mercedes would shake things up when it finally came time to drop the top on its flagship luxury model? Nope, neither did we. This is the S-Class Cabriolet, and from the beltline down, it's basically the same fixed-roof car we tested back in October – same grille, same headlights, same twin character lines in the profile. This is not a bad thing. We're betting it'll wear very similar taillights to the S-Class Coupe, although it's difficult to tell on the more heavily camo'd example of the luxurious droptop. Differences, meanwhile, are kept to the absolute minimum. The windshield looks more aggressively raked, and the inclusion of a canvas roof has softened the Coupe's svelte profile, but other than that, there aren't many changes at all. Expect the S-Class Sedan and Coupe's engine lineup to inform the powertrain strategy for the Cabriolet, meaning a base S550 with a 4.7-liter, twin-turbocharged V8. It's unclear if AMG variants will be offered, although we wouldn't bet against it. Our spies report that the S-Class Cabrio will saunter into dealers later this year, eager to steal the lunch money of the aging BMW 6 Series Convertible. We're betting on a European auto show debut, so keep an eye open at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. If not there, Frankfurt seems like a likely destination for the new droptop.
