1970 Mercedes Benz 300sel 6.3 on 2040-cars
Daytona Beach, Florida, United States
Engine:8 CY
Drive Type: RWD
Model: 300-Series
Mileage: 82,624
Trim: 4 Door
The following is a discussion of all of the major systems and components of this car:
Engine: In 2001-2002 the engine was removed. Valve guides, piston rings, all gaskets, timing chain and guides, rocker arms, water pump, main bearings and other wear items were replaced. This engine is dry and does not use oil between 2,500 mile oil services. The reason for the removal and disassembly was because valve guides were needed, and it was easier to remove the entire engine. This car did not suffer a major mechanical failure.
During the rebuild, a rebuilt injection pump and injectors were installed. We have documentation from Star Motors that references all of the parts purchased for the rebuild.
Transmission: The transmission's external seals were replaced. Its internals are very nice, and it shifts well, with no hard shifts or flaring.
Suspension and steering: Star motors replaced the front subframe mounts and engine mounts following the engine rebuild. The steering coupling was also replaced, but I think this car will need another one soon. The steering box does have some play. There are no noticeable noises from the suspension and it seems to have been surfaced at the prescribed intervals.
Air suspension system: In 2001, new air bags were installed. The air bags are still in good shape. The leveling valves do not leak excessively, but they do have some internal leakage, meaning that after two days or so, the light will come on, but the car will not sink down. The check valve in the tank used to leak, but we fixed it. So while the air suspension is not perfect, it does stay up for two weeks or so.
Brakes: The brakes work well, with no sticking calipers and no pulling to the left or right.
Interior is in good/nice condition. Brand new headliner, New upgraded radio/ speaker system, and cold AC. This Mercedes starts right up with a turn of the key. The ride is very smooth and extremely fast, if any of you have had the pleasure of driving a solid 6.3 then you know what I mean.

Mercedes-Benz USA confirms relocation to Atlanta
Tue, Jan 6 2015Porsche, you no longer have Atlanta to yourself. Mercedes-Benz USA has confirmed that it will be moving its corporate headquarters (shown above) from Montvale, NJ, to Georgia's most populous city. This is the second high-profile corporate relocation in the past year, as Mercedes follows in the footsteps of Toyota, which announced its relocation from California to Texas back in April (Subaru also announced a relocation, but it was just four miles away from its old offices). According to the German company, executives and their staff will relocate to an interim facility in the city's Central Perimeter until a brand-new, long-term home is completed in 2017. Around 1,000 employees will be impacted by the move, although Mercedes didn't mention if any employees would be let go as a result of the relocation. The company won't be abandoning New Jersey completely, as it will retain "several operational areas" in both Montvale and Robbinsville, NJ. As Mercedes USA CEO Steve Cannon explains, there are a number of good reasons for the company's relocation. "Atlanta is a premier city which places us closer to our ever-growing Southeast customer base, our port in Brunswick, Georgia, and to Mercedes-Benz US International, our Alabama manufacturing facility, which accounts for half of the vehicles we sell here in the US," Cannon said in a statement. "For our employees, Atlanta offers a strong quality of life, terrific schools and wonderful cultural and recreational opportunities." Mercedes-Benz USA Announces Move of Corporate Headquarters to Atlanta Several operational areas to remain in New Jersey including Parts Distribution Center and Regional Office January 06, 2015 - MONTVALE, N.J. Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today announced that it will relocate its corporate headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia, in a move designed to better serve its growing customer base and strengthen the company's position for long-term, sustainable growth. MBUSA executives and staff will relocate from its primary facility in Montvale, New Jersey, to a temporary facility in Atlanta's Central Perimeter on an interim basis. The company will construct a new, state-of-the-art headquarters expected to be completed in early 2017. MBUSA plans to begin moving employees starting in July 2015. The move, which will affect approximately 1,000 employees, will be phased to help minimize any disruption to business operations. Several operational areas will remain in both Montvale and Robbinsville, New Jersey.
China's BAIC looks to invest in Daimler
Sat, Aug 29 2015Daimler and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC) are already intertwined in China. Daimler is a 12-percent shareholder in BAIC Motor, the third largest shareholder in the passenger-car division of BAIC. They have a joint manufacturing venture Beijing Benz in which BAIC is the majority partner by one percent, a sales joint venture Beijing Mercedes-Benz Sales Service Co. in which Daimler is the majority partner by one percent, and Daimer says, "BAIC is our most important partner in China." Beijing Benz is ten years old this year. They'll become even closer if talks between the two concerning BAIC taking "a major stake" in the German conglomerate come to anything. Reuters reports that the two are in talks now, with BAIC Chairman Xu Heyi saying it should be resolved one way or another by the end of this year. If they agree, the China-based, Hong Kong-listed company will join Renault-Nissan and the Kuwait Investment Authority as Daimler's top shareholders. Some China analysts see a potential Daimler investment as a coup for BAIC, similar to BAIC's 2009 purchase of old Saab platform, engine, and transmission technologies, that would give it access to technologies it wouldn't have to develop on its own and hastening the development of its own cars. A deal is also seen as potentially opening up export possibilities for the Chinese company. Other analysts aren't sure that BAIC would get any useful technology, noting that that last deal between the two gave BAIC the outdated E-Class platform, but none of Mercedes' headline tech. If a deal is done, BAIC will join Dongfeng Group and SAIC as Chinese automaker investors in western automotive companies.
Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control ad is clucking awesome
Tue, 24 Sep 2013This is a new ad from Mercedes-Benz. At no point does it show an automobile. Instead, it stars animals, but not the sort you might normally see in car commercial. This ad is all about chickens. It is bizarre, to say the least, with Diana Ross and the Supremes belting it out in the background, but it all kind of comes together when you realize just what Mercedes is hawking (yeah, pun intended).
It's for the manufacturer's Magic Body Control, found on the new S-Class. The system basically analyzes the road and prepares the suspension accordingly, leading to a ride that is, in the words of our own Chris Paukert "nothing short of spooky." You can read about it in our full review of the 2014 S550. Take a look below for the 53-second spot.
