For Sale is my low mileage 1985 Mercedes 190D. This vehicle is being sold at a price that INCLUDES FREE DELIVERY TO THE CONTIGUOUS 48 STATES! Depending on the location I may drive it myself. I obviously do not have any concerns with this cars reliability or ability to make it anywhere in the country. With that said, I will still try to describe the vehicle to the fullest extent. I always welcome questions and I most likely have more pictures than are shown on eBay. All I need is a request of what you are looking for and I will email you what I have.

So.... this 190D has the original motor in the car. It also contains the factory 5speed manual transmission. This car is set up to be a highway warrior. With the 4 cylinder diesel and manual transmission I have taken numerous trips to Las Vegas, which is 270 miles round trip on 6.5 gallons of diesel. This was not a one time occurrence. This was a regular trip where the cruise was set at 75-80 mph and I achieved 42 mpg. The mileage would drop a little when the A/C was turned on, but the mileage was still in the High 30's and occasionally the low 40's. I bought this car from a Las Vegas owner, who owned it as a secondary car. He drove it occasionally, which probably led to the miles remaining low. He had to sell it due to some family issues, and I just happen to be in the market for a similar car. But now times have changed and I need to sell it. I chose to list it on eBay because of the great exposure eBay offers. I feel that this car needs to appeal to as many people as possible, this is the reason that I am listing this car on eBay.

When I received the car it had some issues that I quickly restored. A few of the issues included; A radiator that was glued together; a thermostat that had been taken out to help cool the car ( old American car thinking); The car had to be stalled to shut it off; A/C did not work. The car started right up when I went to look at it and appeared to shift and run decent, so I purchased the car knowing the issues that needed attention. I put the car on a car trailer and towed it back to St. George. I did not trust the Jerry-rigged radiator to make it 135 miles to home.

So quickly I invested some money into the car. I bought a Nissen radiator, a new thermostat and installed a new serpentine belt. Once I got those issues resolved I had the car inspected and put on the road. That was nearly 4 years ago. I have put on roughly 20,000 miles in the last 4 years, another reason the miles have remained low on this car.

When the summer time hit I knew I needed the A/C fixed. Expecting the worst I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the A/C was not a huge issue. I drew a vacuum on the system and checked for leaks. I had none. The guys that had previously done the A/C retrofit must have done their job completely. The A/C has been retrofitted to R134 refrigerant. Once I sucked it down and noticed no leaks I replaced the Desiccant dryer and the expansion valve. I then pulled a secondary vacuum on the system and check again for leaks. Once it showed no signs of leaks I recharged the A/C with 134 refrigerant. The system is COLD. I have had friends riding around with me in astonishment at how cold it was and they drove a newer Honda Accord, so I felt they were comparing the two and giving this 1985 a high praise.

About 10,000 miles ago I did a few priority maintenance items. I addressed the Non-engine stopping issue and the clutch pilot bearing issue. As I stated before the car did not shut off when I bought the car. A few other items did not work that were Vacuum related. If you don't know, Vacuum is the life line of these vehicles. One of the biggies was the power brake booster. So I traced the problem back to the actual Vacuum pump mounted on the front of the engine. I bit the bullet and bought a brand new German pump. I then went about installing it. Once I did it was as if the car had been woken up. The brake booster now worked, the car shut off when the key was turned to the off position ( always a bonus),and the HVAC controls worked.
Additionally the transmission has worked wonderfully. Since I have owned it I have had to learn to remember to pause a split second when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Other than that there are no issues with the transmission since I replaced the throwout bearing. Due to the age of the vehicle the throwout bearing started to squeal a little. I knew that the whole transmission had to come out of the car to replace the throwout bearing, so I opted to spend the money and replace the clutch disc as well. I replaced the throwout bearing, the clutch disc and the pressure plate and resurfaced the flywheel. While I had the transmission out of the car I changed the fluid using AMS OIL synthetic transmission fluid as Mercedes calls for. This did help slightly with the 2nd synchro gear, but I would still say there is a slight pause needed.

Within the last 2000 miles I have replaced the brake master cylinder. I have replaced all of the brake pads ( 4 wheel disc brakes) and the internal parking brake pads were adjusted at the same time. Yes the parking brake works!

Randomly I have replaced or fixed the following;

  • Replaced the Windshield washer pump
  • The engine oil and filter have been changed at regular intervals with AMS OIL synthetic oil. The air filter has been changed too.
  • I changed out the rear differential oil with AMS OIL
  • A front wheel bearing started to make some noise so I replaced it and repacked the other side.
  • Replaced the front struts with KYB
  • Put 2 newer tires on the rear. All 4 will DEFINITELY pass any states safety inspection
  • I did install a new antenna mast, but something ,must have not been done correctly. I run XM radio all the time and I have never needed the Antenna mast to be working. The radio does operate and all 4 speakers operate.
  • Valve cover gasket
  • PCV breathing grommet that goes through the head has been replaced. It still weeps a little.
  • All of the PCV rubber connecting boots
  • Injectors. I used the Monarch brand as they are the ONLY brand still made in Germany.
  • I had to replace a factory steel fuel line from the injection pump to the injector.
  • New glow plugs
  • New glow plug relay
  • Took the windshield wiper motor assembly apart and lubed it
  • Replaced the drivers front door window regulator
  • Replaced the Windshield
  • Replaced a headlight
  • Replaced a taillight. The previous one was cracked and sun damaged
  • Replaced the rear muffler. The original finally had rotted out.
  • Replaced the Driver door lock cylinder. It did not work when I bought it so I ordered a new one from Mercedes and got a factory cut key.
  • Replaced the Driver seat bottom spring frame. It had began to sag and the spring was broken. I found a NOS Mercedes seat bottom frame.

The car still needs:

  • Paint work. The pictures should show the effects of nearly 30 years of South Western sun taking it's toll on the Hood, Roof and Deck lid. The tops of the doors and the fenders have also been effected some what.
  • The dash will need to be repaired or replaced to bring it back to pristine condition. It does have a couple of cracks in the dash  but, a previous owner bought a dash cover and I have been satisfied with it. It is faded though.
  • The passenger rear door window works occasionally. It must be something with a ground or loose wire.
  • The driver seat left side bolster is cracked. It could be replaced.

Other than that there are probably a few other minor issues, but none that I can think to mention.

Currently the car is indoor storage at a shop. I do need to get it out sooner rather than later.

UK workers strand car on island of asphalt to keep working

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Generally speaking, when you illegally park your car, you're likely to get ticketed and towed, but there is probably at least one motorist in Scotland who wishes that was the case. After workers had blocked off a portion of the parking lot for the Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the driver of this Mercedes-Benz S-Class reportedly moved some of the barriers to park in one of the empty spots.
Rather than having the vehicle towed, the work crew simply tore up the asphalt around the leaving just the one parking spot intact, and as you can see in the image above (posted to the Twitter account of Harold Norstad), the crew even built a small asphalt ramp so the car could get off its blacktop pedestal. Since this happened last week, there's no word as to whether the car was eventually moved or towed for the resurfacing work to continue.
Let this be a warning...

Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG spied in Sweden

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

We've spotted the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA testing a couple times in recent months in getting closer to production form and shedding camouflage, but now it looks like we're see our first look at the AMG version of this compact crossover. The low ride height might trick some into thinking that we're just seeing the already-confirmed A45 AMG out testing, but the unique beltline, rear doors and side windows confirm this is some version of the GLA-Class.
What makes us so confident that this is the AMG model? Well, for starters, this prototype has beefier brakes with cross-drilled front and rear rotors and bigger front calipers, but it also sports dual exhaust outlets poking through the rear fascia and a suspension that has been lowered considerably. Our spy shooters said that this car's exhaust note made it almost certainly an AMG model.
Just to be clear, the GLA AMG will not be powered by a 4.5-liter engine. The closely related A45 AMG will carry the "45" in its name to celebrate the first 45 years of AMG, and our sources seem to indicate the AMG version of the GLA will do the same. We're expecting this sporty crossover to produce as much as 350 horsepower from its AMG-tuned four-cylinder engine, and like the all-new E63 AMG, it could very well come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive.

Mercedes-AMG GT S aggressively priced at $129,900*

Sun, Jan 25 2015

Just a few days ago we brought you leaked information regarding pricing for Mercedes' new flagship supercar. Now the German automaker has confirmed that the new Mercedes-AMG GT S will indeed retail for $129,900 (*plus a $925 destination charge). That may seem like a big chunk of change, and by most standards it is. But it starts to fall into reasonable territory when you put it into context. For one thing, it's not the most expensive Mercedes – not by a long shot. The previous SLS AMG fetched around $200k, and most anything else at the top of the AMG range – like the S63, SL63, G63 or GL63 – will set you back more than the new GT S, and don't even get us started on anything with the V12 and the number 65. The new Maybach S600 will set you back nearly $190k, and that bonkers G63 6x6 goes for over half a million. As for its rivals, the pricing places the AMG GT S right on pace with the Porsche 911 GT3 (whose 475 horsepower the Benz neatly trumps with 503 hp) and a good $20k less than the more powerful 911 Turbo. It also comes closer to the $115,900 that Audi charges for an R8 with a V8 than the $153,900 it gets for the ten-cylinder version, although the Benz edges closer to the latter in terms of output. The pricing does make it a fair bit more expensive than even the top end of the Jaguar F-Type range, which (short of the Project 7 speedster) maxes out at under $100k for the R model. Contrary to its predecessor and the SLR that came before, however, Benz is wisely staying out of Ferrari/Lamborghini/McLaren territory this time around. In short, Mercedes has clearly weighed its pricing strategy carefully. But if $130k is still too rich for your blood, the less potent base Mercedes-AMG GT will follow in the spring of 2016 with less power (quoted at 456 hp) and with a list price that's yet to be announced but promises to be a fair bit lower. In the meantime, deliveries of the GT S are scheduled to commence in April of this year. MERCEDES-BENZ ANNOUNCES PRICING ON ALL-NEW MY2016 MERCEDES-AMG GT S New Sports Car to Start at $129,900* January 23, 2015 - MONTVALE, NJ With the new Mercedes-AMG GT model range, the Mercedes-AMG sports car brand is moving into a new segment.
