Up for your consideration is a pretty unique and collectible car produced in limited numbers, even fewer yet are examples of it in this well cared for condition at this price point.

Putting a price on it is hard. Kelley blue Book puts it between $4,000 to $5,000 dollars.

This one has a fender bender on the left side as well as the rear quarter panel. It's strictly superficial and can be easily fixed by someone that knows bodywork. Change the sheetmetal altogether and that's that. No fuss, no muss. No frame or structural damage whatsoever! Please see images posted. Clean Title though.

Other than that the car drives GREAT!

It only has 115k miles and for being a '91 is a low mileage specimen. 5 speed gearbox works and shifts excellent. The engine purrs as only rotary's can. WOW! What a great sound note coming from underneath the hood.

Tires are about a year old and were purchased at Discount tire. Bridgestone Potenza's. 80% tread on all 4.

There are no leaks of any kind in the motor. The engine is unmolested. Everything is there that should be.

The leather seats in the interior are in excellent cindition. An 8 out of ten. The carpet is clean and bright. It's a great cockpit.

The convertible top has no tears or rips and works as it should. An 8 out of 10. A little faded but nothing bad.

The rack and pinion feels tight with no play of any kind. Take corners at will and have fun.

Might need an alignment but nothing major. No spare tire.

This is a California car so no rust. Always kept inside. Aside from the left side of the car, the rest is in excellent condition.

The headlight switch problem has been fixed.

No A/C. Don't need it, just put the top down (A/C compressor shot).

This car is a collectible and each year that passes will appreciate in value.

Very fun car to drive and would make a great toy for your garage. Go ahead, spoil yourself.

MSRP in 1991 was close to $28,000!!!

These don't come up to often so if your into car collecting on the cheap, snatch it up.

Clean California Title with Smog Certificate ready to go.

One of the few convertibles that looks just as good with the top up, as it does down.

A deposit of $500 is due upon winning.

2013 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year finalists announced [w/poll]

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

2012 is almost in the books and automakers are spending December gearing up for the 2013 auto show season, which tips off next month at the Detroit Auto Show. Traditionally, the latter opens up with the announcement of the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards, and this year figures to be no different.
But up until this moment, we didn't know which six vehicles would be parked ahead of the stage as finalists, with executives and engineers waiting for the winners to be disclosed. Whittled down from October's "short list" of nominees (11 cars and 10 truck/utility vehicles), the finalists are as follows:

Mazda working on lithium-ion batteries to replace lead-acid starter batteries

Mon, Mar 19 2018

In the quest for ever better fuel economy, car companies are looking for every single advantage possible, no matter how small. This is evident in everything from active grille shutters to the 48-volt mild-hybrid electric assist systems like that in the new Ram 1500. For Mazda, the latest target for potential efficiency gains is the lowly 12-volt starter battery. The company announced that it is partnering with two other companies, ELIIY Power and Ube Industries, to develop a lithium-ion starter battery that would be used on mainstream models in place of conventional lead-acid units. Mazda plans to have them ready for use by 2021. The advantage here would be that 12-volt lithium-ion batteries would be much smaller and lighter than the lead-acid ones they replace. And lighter cars don't need as much fuel to move around. Plus, as an added benefit, making cars lighter also often makes them faster and better handling. This is why companies such as Lotus and Porsche have offered optional lithium-ion 12-volt batteries for some lightweight sports cars. A potential downside to the use of these batteries is increased cost. Lead-acid batteries from your local parts store will run you between $100 to $150. AGM batteries could be between $200 and $300. As for lithium-ion batteries, Lotus introduced the option on the Evora 400 in 2016, and the option cost $1,690. Odds are that a company such as Mazda won't be absorbing all those costs, meaning that the cost of these future Mazdas could increase with a change from lead-acid to lithium ion. Related Video:

Mazda 16X rotary engine two years away, will arrive in all-new model

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

We last reported on Mazda's next-generation rotary engine project in June of 2012 when the automaker built its last Renesis-powered RX-8, but rumors of this new engine's development had been around way before that final car left the production line in Japan, last year.
We now have enthusiastic confirmation that this next-gen rotary engine is really and truly going forward. It is still referred to as 16X and has several priorities. First is to lower fuel consumption compared to the RX-8's engine, while still making gains in terms of performance. The second is to reduce the burning of oil that was happening at the highest revs. And the third and final priority, and perhaps most key for enthusiasts, is to give the powertrain a big torque upgrade.
What we were told by a Mazda USA insider (while we are all here together at the festivities in Monterey) is that the first application of the new 16X engine will be happening in two years' time in an as yet undisclosed new model. Oh, the mind races to our eternal Mazda wish list...
