With regret I am selling my first generation 1980 Rx-7. I am not anxious to sell but some things have changed and I need the garage space. I bought this car with the intention of keeping it forever and driving it while fixing the little things it needs along the way. I've always loved the original Rx-7, so when I had the opportunity to snag this one, I did. For the last couple of months I've driven it as much as possible, weather permitting, and have enjoyed every minute of it.
- It starts every time and runs like a champ. (It has a manual choke that disengages automatically as the car warms up.)
- The engine pulls strong and the clutch and transmission are tight. (It can get scratch, no problem. Not that I tried that...) It cruises nicely on the highway at 75 mph with plenty of power to spare.
- No engine leaks - I keep it in the garage and there are no spots on the floor.
- The interior is in amazing condition and I believe it to be original, however, I'm not an expert and I don't know for sure so don't hold me to it. I'll let the pictures do the talking...
- (Almost) Everything works! - Headlights, original radio, power antenna, horn, cigarette lighter, ashtray light, door buzzer, etc. A couple of things still need attention - see The Bad.
- It looks awesome from more than 5 feet away. (See The Ugly.)
- Just replaced the engine belts last week.
- Fresh oil change.
- NO RUST!
- There is an exhaust leak somewhere towards the front of the car. That was next on my to-do list and I just haven't chased it down yet.
- The rear defroster doesn't work. Another thing I was going to work on.
- Not sure if the A/C works, but I'd guess not. When I push the A/C button I don't hear the compressor kick in and the light doesn't come on.
- The left blinker blinks rapidly. I've isolated the problem to the front left blinker, but the bulb is good. I was going to have my mechanic fix that next, but due to the foot of snow we just got I may not get that fixed before auction end because I don't want to drive it on the salty roads.
- It has been repainted, and the color is close to the color of the original paint. It wasn't a great paint job and you can see places where it was taped off. Not bad looking, but you'll notice it when you get up close.
- There are some small dents (about the size of a nickel) here and there on various spots of the car. I was planning to have a paintless dent repair company fix them. Not super noticeable unless you're close.

On closer inspection, I found some surface rust under the passenger door and I've included a picture. There is no rust-through anywhere on the car that I can find. Thanks for looking!

Even the clock in the instrument cluster works! One thing I forgot to mention: when the tank is full, it only shows about 1/4 tank on the fuel gauge. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

2014 Mazda6 i Sport
Fri, 01 Feb 2013In an automotive landscape dominated by platform sharing, technology exchange and any number of other cross-fertilization/cost-saving/amortization exercises, it's actually pretty rare that we get to drive a new car that is as "all-new" as this, the 2014 Mazda6. With brand-spanking new Skyactiv architecture throughout - engine, transmission, body and chassis all included - this 6 represents a new era of flexible production and cutting edge running gear for the happily lithe car company.
Our own Jonathon Ramsey did a cracking job of running the Mazda6 through its First Drive paces a few months ago, and sufficiently impressed upon us just how good looking a car this is for the midsize sedan segment. Suffice it to say, now, then, that this is easily the most interesting (and quite possibly the most beautiful) midsize sedan in the segment today. However, as Mr. Ramsey reviewed a fully contented example of the 6 - one equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission - we took advantage of Mazda's North American launch event of the car to suss out the base Mazda6 i Sport, complete with its six-speed Skyactiv manual gearbox. This may not shock you, but the stripper's pretty good, too.

2023 Japan Mobility Show Mega Photo Gallery: All the highlights and reveals from Tokyo
Fri, Oct 27 2023The 2023 Japan Mobility Show managed to serve up a surprise heap of exciting and futuristic designs and production reveals. Our staff was on the ground in Tokyo for this year's show, where we captured not just all of the latest automotive trends, but some genuinely weird and fascinating stuff. Browse: Some Delightful Oddities of the 2023 Japan Mobility Show But on to the cars. This year's show featured introductions from Daihatsu, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota. Some are weird; some are wild; most are probably destined to change significantly before production or merely fade into the void with the rest of the industry's vaporware, but if even a few of these make it to showrooms, we'll consider it a win. Scroll on down for our live galleries of each of the show's major debuts (and cars we're only now seeing in person for the first time). 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club and Launch Edition unveiled
Wed, Apr 1 2015If you haven't been tempted enough already to place your order for a new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, the Japanese automaker is sweetening the deal even further at the New York Auto Show this week with the debut of two new editions. Most enticing is the arrival of the new Club edition (pictured above), which brings with it a number of upgrades to Mazda's latest roadster. The MX-5 Miata Club comes with 17-inch gunmetal alloys, a limited-slip differential, Bilstein shocks, tower brace and a new spoilers front and rear. That is, when equipped with the six-speed manual. (The automatic is still available as well, but does without the diff, shocks and brace.) Buyers will even be able to upgrade to BBS alloys of the same size, Brembo front brakes and the aero kit previewed by the MX-5 Global Cup racer in Chicago. The Mazda Connect infotainment system comes standard, with seven-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, nine-speaker Bose audio... the works. The Club edition isn't the only new Miata being launched in Manhattan this week, though: so is the Launch Edition. Offered to the first 1,000 customers who place their orders for a new Miata in the US, the MX-5 Launch Edition is based on the Grand Touring trim level and comes in an exclusive combination of Soul Red paint with a tan leather interior. It even comes with a few do-dads to go along with it. Mazda is taking deposits of $500 for those first 1,000 units at www.longlivetheroadster.com, and details of both these upgraded Miatas can be found in the press releases below.
