For sale: 1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo HCI. 38,619 Original Miles. This is a very presentable and great example of an S3 Esprit. It is ready for a new owner and will be greatly enjoyed by whoever gets to own this rare vehicle. Not many of these Esprit's were built, in 1986 only about 200 Esprit Turbo cars were built in the world. This is a very sought after exotic car and is becoming very hard to come by. If your looking for the exotic feel in a not so crazy price range this may be the car for you. In the past few years the market has went up incredibly on this body style Esprit. The Esprit I'm selling is in good condition for its age and its 90% original state. This Esprit is also a real HCI model car.
History on this Esprit: We are the second owners of the car. The car was purchased and owned in the Miami area of Florida by the First owner. We purchased the car from Auto Europe in 1995 which is a pretty well known Lotus and Morgan dealer in the state of Michigan. The car had around 30,000 miles when we first got the car. It was driven rarely only on nice days up until the early 2000's when the car ended up being parked after finding out it needed a fuel pump. This Esprit sat in our heated garage for about 9-10 years unfixed. We moved recently and brought the car with us. The car belonged to my father I just recently got around to putting a pump in the car within the year, and had the car completely looked over top to bottom and serviced back at Auto Europe. Car is now running better than ever. We still have no time to really enjoy the car so that's why it is being put up on the market. The car was always kept indoors, climate controlled garages. Never seen snow or salt. So here is your chance to get your hands on a very rare and desirable Lotus Esprit. Exterior: The body of this Esprit is in nice shape. Original black paint on the body. Has some clear peel on the head light buckets, mirror tops, and tops of the fenders that is barely noticeable unless looking close. Has some checks in the paint on the roof. Minor scratches and chips. I would like to be honest with the buyer so you know exactly what your buying that's why I will be including a link to Photobucket with many High resolution photos. Paint shines beautiful and you can see yourself clearly in the paint while walking down the car. The whole body is intact. Emblems are all in good shape. Pin striping and stickers are in excellent shape. The glass is in very good shape. All lights are in good shape. The trim and bumpers are also all in great condition. As you know the top does remove, I do have the fiberglass piece you put on after the top is off also. Everything opens and closes as it should. Original BBS wheels are in good shape no rash but they do have some paint peel inside the spokes. Great example of an S3 Esprit in its original state. Interior: The interior of this Esprit is in good/excellent condition. The seat leather is in nice shape but does have a small 5" tear in the corner of the passenger seat. The arm rest has been recovered black and I believe should be put back to tan. The dash is in very nice condition. The top of the dash above the instrument cluster has some fade in color. The fan knob is missing and the A/C control knob is missing. Has a MOMO Indy wood grain steering wheel that is in perfect condition and a wood grain MOMO Shift knob. Rest of the interior leather and carpet are in good shape. Headliner is also in good shape and does have the factory clock that works. Everything in the interior works as it should. Mechanically: The car is in sound mechanical condition. Runs and Drives straight and tight down the road. The handling on the car is incredible. The car does not have any vibrations or shakes. The motor runs smooth and quiet. Does not burn any oil and does not leak anything. Underneath is dry and leak free. The 5 speed Maserati transmission shifts flawlessly and clutch feels great. The car makes full boost and has a ton of power and is a blast to drive. The car has many new parts. The car has had a new tune up recently plugs and wires. New battery. Starter rebuilt. Distributor was gone through and has a new pickup coil. The fuel pumps and fuel filters are new. The car stops as it should no pulsations or grinds in the brakes. Suspension wise the car rides stiff and rolls smooth down the road. The only issue is the brake light on the dash does stay on and I'm not sure why. The tires were just replaced with a factory sized tire front and rear. The headlights flip up and work as they should. I do have some receipts for the recent work done to the car. The front trunk is clean and has the factory spare tire and the jack equipment also. The engine compartment is all together and not missing anything. Engine looks clean some of the factory orange paint has peeled off the intake and valve covers but the engine is clean and leak free. The exhaust is quiet and has no leak or common manifold leaks. All the carpet in the engine compartment is intact. The engine cover is in excellent shape and latches as it should. The rear hood shocks do not work very well. The underneath of the car is clean and looks as it should. No rust or oil residue on the parts. The fiberglass covers underneath are all intact and not cracked or busted. I tried to explain this Esprit to the best of my knowledge and so you know exactly what you are getting. I will add video I uploaded to YouTube and I will include a link to Photobucket so you can view more pictures of the car. If you would like more videos I do have some I could send you. In conclusion this is one of the cheaper and best performing exotics of the era for the money. Driving one of these cars is a very unique experience and its something that I would recommend to try. These cars are small, light and quick. Surprisingly with how small the car is it is very comfortable and fells very roomy inside. This will be a bidding style auction. I will set a reserve which I think is fair. May the highest bidder get the car, good luck and happy bidding!!! Please contact me via phone if you have "0" feedback before bidding and please make sure your funds are available before purchasing the car. This will also be a cash sale or Paypal can be talked about only! Buyer is responsible for pickup/shipping of the vehicle. I will entertain offers on the car so with that being said I have the right to end the auction at anytime if the car has sold before auction close. Vehicle is sold AS IS and has no existing warranty. New 2024 Lotus Emira priced at just under six figures
Fri, Jul 14 2023Unveiled in 2021, and delayed earlier in 2023 allegedly due to certification-related issues, the 2024 Lotus Emira is finally ready to turn its wheels on American pavement. The coupe appears on the firm's online configurator, but it costs significantly more than initially announced. Buyers will have two Emira flavors to choose from. The entry-level car uses a Mercedes-AMG-sourced 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that's turbocharged to develop 360 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It spins the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Next up is a supercharged, 3.5-liter V6 provided by Toyota and rated at 400 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The six-cylinder spins the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, though a six-speed automatic that bumps the torque figure to 317 is a $2,150 option. Pricing for the base Emira starts at $99,900 excluding destination fee, which hasn't been published yet, while the V6-powered car carries a base price of $105,400. Note that these figures only apply to the First Edition model; Lotus hasn't detailed or priced the other available trim levels. For context, the Geely-owned British brand initially announced prices of $85,900 and $93,300 for the four-cylinder- and V6-powered models, respectively. An earlier report blames the increases on the supply chain-related constraints that have plagued most carmakers since 2020. Enthusiasts configuring an Emira have a long list of options to choose from. Lotus offers Touring and Sport chassis configurations (the latter brings a firmer suspension system), 13 paint colors, a Black Pack that bundles black exterior trim pieces, and three wheel designs. Inside, you've got several leather and Alcantara upholsteries to choose from plus a vehicle tracker, a HomeLink transceiver, and tinted windows. Lotus dealers across the nation will begin receiving the V6-powered Emira First Edition in the third quarter of 2023, while buyers waiting in line for a four-cylinder-powered model won't get their car until the first quarter of 2024. Additional trim levels should join the range later on. Related video:
Lotus Advanced Performance offers hints about special projects
Tue, Jun 28 2022Four months ago, Lotus teased the creation of an Advanced Performance division. The legendary sports car maker divulged that the department would build "ultra-exclusive and unique vehicles" outside of the firm's regular-production lineup, developing Lotus race cars, manage Lotus motorsports programs, work on customer commissions and create customer experiences from Hethel production tours and track days to global driving academies and "money can't buy" opportunities. In further comments to Autocar and Auto Express, the head of Lotus Advanced Performance (LAP), Simon Lane, gave clues about what's coming. Lane suggested a number of creations, but the part we're most excited about is "while wider Lotus Group moves towards full-on electrification, LAP is 'reserving the right to still play with combustion engines.'" These ICE powerplants could be slated for coming restomod projects based on plans and technical drawings for Lotus products in the 1960s and 1970s that were never produced. Lane said his 15-person team is "well advanced" on work on what he calls "scratch build" vehicles that will hearken to vintage wares but be "easier to drive and maybe [have] a better power-to-weight ratio and better brakes." We love our electric cars here at Autoblog, but the idea of lightweight revivals recalling Lotus' best years with classic lines, small-displacement engines and maybe even manual transmissions would be glorious. These won't be continuation cars, but all-new products with production runs said to be smaller than anyone would expect. It's possible we could see something this year, 2022 being the 50th anniversary of Emerson Fittipaldi and Lotus winning the 1972 Formula 1 Driver's and Constructor's Championships in the Lotus-Ford 72D. That might explain the teaser image from February, if not the colors of the car in the teaser. Know what other momentous Lotus moment occurred in 1972? The Esprit concept debuted at the Turin Motor Show. Lane, who comes from service in Aston Martin's Q division, calls LAP "the most all-encompassing special operations department" among automakers. That means there will be work done on the electric side, too, potential services being electric drivetrain conversions of traditional Lotus cars, and creating new bodywork for the new range of battery-electric cars.
Lotus-based Radford Type 62-2 shows its retro-styled interior
Thu, Nov 11 2021England-based Radford introduced the Type 62-2, a limited-edition coupe with a heritage-laced design, earlier in 2021. But it didn't show us the interior. Now, Radford finally revealed what the car looks like inside, and it's a blend of retro styling cues and modern tech that enthusiasts will love. At first glance, the Type 62-2's cockpit looks like it's from a different era. The driver faces a meaty three-spoke steering wheel, the shift linkage is exposed, and there is a pair of Bremont instruments (one is a clock, the other is a stopwatch) positioned on the passenger-side of the dashboard. We could be describing a 1970s rally car. However, a closer inspection reveals features buyers expect from a car in 2021. Look behind the steering wheel (whose spokes are made with carbon fiber) and you'll spot a digital instrument cluster with a layout that can be configured by each buyer. You could, in theory, ask for the tachometer to be front and center, for example. Screens positioned on either side of the dashboard display the footage from the cameras that replace the exterior mirrors, and a phone dock that doubles as a wireless charger is hidden behind the build plate located on the center stack. Users can set their phone there to access navigation and music apps. Radford Type 62-2 John Player Special View 5 Photos Buyers will have three basic trim levels to choose from: Classic, Gold Leaf, and John Player Special. Each one will receive a specific look inspired by liveries that Lotus race cars have used in the past, though buyers will be invited to configure their car exactly how they want it. What won't change is the engine: it's a supercharged, 3.5-liter V6 that found its way into the Type 62-2 from Toyota via the Lotus Emira. Bolted to either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, it develops about 430 horsepower in the Classic model, around 500 in the Gold Leaf, and approximately 600 in the John Player Special thanks in part to a specific supercharger. Radford will build 62 units of the Type 62-2, and production is scheduled to start before the end of 2021. Deliveries will begin in early 2022. Pricing information hasn't been announced, but don't expect this rare British coupe built largely by hand to come with a bargain price.
