This car is in amazing condition. I had it all checked over by a mechanic in the last couple months and he gave it his seal of approval after replacing the front brake systems (calipers, hoses, pads, bearings) and brand new tires with lifetime warranty. Also new fuel filter, belts and stereo with AUX jack. It's a thrill to drive. Comes with air-bag style shocks, a trip computer that keeps track of your mpg (24 highway--great for a V8!), how many miles you can drive before you run out of gas, etc. All electric controls for windows, moonroof, seat position, doors, etc, plus a keypad on the drivers door to unlock passenger side and the trunk without a key. Paint is in great shape--the car is still very shiny. Leather is in perfect condition except for ripping in the front seat. The rear is impeccable. I'm moving in a week and a half from LA and am flying, so I need to get rid of my car before then. AKA: Motivated seller. NOTE: The mileage is listed as 200,000 but due to an error in the Odometer in the early 90s (at time of first sale), no one knows the actual miles. Mechanically, the condition implies they are low, though--probably lower than 200,000 even. eBay requires me to input a number. |

Not long after I heard that Mark LaNeve, chief operating officer of Ford agency Team Detroit, was moving to take over direct operations of the New York ad agency Hudson Rouge for Lincoln, I heard that JCPenney CEO Ron Johnson was ousted. The two events are connected.

Fri, 26 Sep 2014It seems like the retro design aesthetic in autos might be petering out, with even a former poster child like the Ford Mustang taking a step in a more modern direction. Sometimes those updates of old-school models really worked well, though. Just take a look above at the Lincoln Continental concept from 2002 that took the extruded shape of the 1960s version and updated it for the new millennium.
Now there's a chance for this gorgeous concept to take a spot in your garage, as RM Auctions is selling it as part of a 130-plus-car, no-reserve auction of the Sam Pack Collection on November 14 and 15, in Dallas, TX. Among the lots for sale are a number of Fords, including several recent concepts from the brand. "My collecting philosophy is simple: buy what I like, but always with an emphasis on quality," Pack said in the auction announcement.
The Continental concept absolutely nails the mix of modern and retro. Its perfectly crisp lines make the shape appear hewn from a single piece of metal, and there's just the slightest ornamentation with the angled, chrome slats in the grille and chrome strips over the wheel arches. It even retains the suicide doors from its inspiration.
Lincoln prepping MKZ re-launch?

Case in point is the 2013 Lincoln MKZ, introduced with the fanfare of a major nationwide marketing campaign, including expensive Super Bowl ads, just as Ford was curbing production over potential quality issues. The resulting mess was nothing short of a nightmare for any automaker - customers visiting dealerships looking for cars that hadn't been delivered yet. Disappointed buyers walked out of Lincoln retailers without new keys in their hands, or switched to a competing brand to fill empty spaces in their driveways.
The impact was painful, as Lincoln's sales in January and February of this year were among the lowest it has recorded in more than a quarter century. Even though March looked a bit brighter, with the supply crisis reportedly over (there are 3,000 units in transit and production is approaching 200 units per day) the automaker is reportedly studying the feasibility of giving its pivotal MKZ the launch it originally deserved.
According to TheDetroitBureau.com, putting the MKZ back on consumer's radar could cost Ford tens of millions of dollars, but that kind of investment may be warranted if potential buyers have forgotten about the new model... or worse, if they have forgotten about Lincoln.
