Purchased in July, 1978, for a hefty $16,082 at McKinney Lincoln-Mercury in Salem, Oregon, this striking automotive landmark has been carefully stored since the end of the 70s by the original owner. It was uncovered not far from the dealership where it was purchased brand new.
Attention-grabbing in Dark Red Metallic Moondust and larger than life, this gorgeous Mark V has clocked a scant 14,409 miles since it left the assembly plant in Wixom, MI. It is absolutely rust-free. Highly optioned and fully-documented, this Mark comes complete as delivered, with every factory or dealer supplied tag, manual or piece of paperwork, including the original window sticker, metal ownercard, and two build sheets. Motive power is the 7.5 litre 460. The big block is complemented by an optional four barrel and dual exhaust system and packs 360 lbs. of torque. GM design boss Welburn says Lincoln isn't a Cadillac rival [w/poll]
Thu, 05 Dec 2013General Motors Vice President of Global Design, Ed Welburn, had some dismissive words for a certain cross-town luxury brand during an interview with Car and Driver. When asked about his thoughts on Lincoln, Welburn deflected, before saying, "I don't consider Lincoln to be a competitor for Cadillac."
"They're not a global luxury brand. I don't consider them a competitor. Are they a competitor for Buick? Quite possibly. But not for Cadillac," GM's head designer explained. Welburn, who's been at the helm of GM Design North America since 2003 and is the first to hold the position of VP of Global Design, has been instrumental in the styling renaissance at GM, so predictably, Car and Driver's interview with him focused on the design aspect of cars.
During the interview, Welburn explicitly denied plans for a reborn Cadillac XLR, even as a new Chevrolet Corvette is hitting the market and strides are being made with Cadillac's V-Series performance arm saying, "We have a lot of cars that we're working on for the Cadillac brand. The XLR is not one of them right now."

Ford announces four recalls, 1.4M vehicles affected
Thu, 29 May 2014Ford is taking a bit of the spotlight away from General Motors, announcing a major group of recall campaigns, covering a total of 1.4 million vehicles built between 2006 and 2013.
Let's start with the big one, which covers the Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner and, according to The Detroit News, Ford-built Mazda Tribute CUVs. 915,216 vehicles are covered, all of which were built in model years 2008 to 2011. 736,000 vehicles are in the US, while Canada then Mexico make up the vast majority of the remainder. The problem is due to an issue with the torque sensor in the steering column, which could lead to sudden power steering failure. Manual steering would still be available, though.
"Dealers will perform one of three service fixes, depending upon what diagnostic codes are shown when the vehicle is taken to the dealer," Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker wrote to Autoblog in an email. "They will either update software for the power steering control module and the instrument cluster module; replace the torque sensor; or replace the steering column, which includes upgraded power steering control module software."
