Lincoln dealers frustrated over slow MKZ production ramp-up
Tue, 12 Feb 2013Lincoln has clearly been working hard to get the word out about its 2013 MKZ sedan. The Dearborn automaker has taken out lavish spreads to trumpet its boldly styled new model in magazines of every description, along with placing commercials for both the vehicle and the reborn brand behind it on all manner of television programs, including the super-costly Super Bowl earlier this month.
Pity, then, that Lincoln dealers don't have enough MKZs to sell. According to The Detroit News, parent company Ford has spent a good portion of its time at this week's National Automobile Dealers Association meeting in Florida attempting to pacify upset dealers who don't have enough examples of the pivotal new vehicle in stock.
As the DetNews notes, Lincoln only sold 453 MKZs last month, a whopping 73-percent decrease over the same period last year when the sedan's predecessor was on sale. In fact, the stunted supply had enough impact that Lincoln's January figures worked out to a 32-year low for the brand, just as it's trying to get back on its feet. This, despite the fact that the MKZ is said to have the biggest number of pre-orders in the marque's history.
Electric Lincoln Corsair-E coming in 2026, report says
Wed, Jan 20 2021An electric Lincoln Corsair is on the way, Automotive News reports. It’s currently scheduled to arrive in 2026 and will be built at the Oakville, Ontario, assembly plant. Automotive NewsÂ’ source for this information is AutoForecast Solutions LLC, an automotive global forecasting company. “At this point, weÂ’re not sure if it will completely replace the Corsair or if there will be an equivalent gas-powered Corsair. But they would be on two different platforms,” Sam Fiorani, vice-president of AutoForecast Solutions, told Automotive News. The vehicle is currently going by the name of Corsair-E. ItÂ’s no surprise to see that it would require a new platform to build. The Corsair is currently riding on the Ford EscapeÂ’s platform, and the highest level of electrification seen there is a plug-in hybrid variant. This electric Corsair will be one of many EVs/electrified vehicles being manufactured at the Oakville plant in the coming years. It was announced late last year that Ford would build five new electrified models there this decade, with the first scheduled to roll off the assembly line in 2025 and the last in 2028. This could mean full EVs or hybrids, but the split is unknown so far. Ford still isnÂ’t talking about its specific plans with this Canadian plant. Automotive News received the standard, Ford “does not comment on future products” response when it queried the Blue Oval. In the meantime, anyone wanting their electrified Lincoln Corsair fix can find it in the Corsair Grand Touring PHEV going on sale soon. Related video:
Lincoln Anniversary Concept is the future looking at the past
Sun, Aug 15 2021Remember the Audi SkySphere concept the German automaker revealed on August 10? The long, low, meaty two-door designed in Malibu, California that previewed elements of Audi's coming design language? This is not that car. This is the Lincoln Anniversary concept, a long, low, meaty two-door designed at the ArtCenter College of Design — about an hour away from Malibu — as a potential preview of Lincoln design elements. There's clearly something in the waters of the communal car design trend pool, and we dig it. A few months ago, Lincoln announced it had partnered with the ArtCenter, inviting students to create four concepts that they'd showcase as integral parts of meaningful stories about people. The transportation students worked with classmates in other disciplines like film and animation to imagine what Lincolns might be like in 2040 and beyond, and create short films to put the concepts and stories in motion inside future worlds. One concept needed to hold two people, one to hold four, another would hold four at elevated ride height, and the largest would be a six-passenger vehicle. All of them had to deliver on Lincoln's promise of Quiet Flight driving and a theme called C.A.S.E., for connected, autonomous, shared and electric. This content is hosted by a third party. Lincoln x ArtCenter College of Design | Quiet Flight 2040 The Glider concept served two people in sedan form, inspired by the Zephyrs and Continentals of yore. As the star of the short "Now You Drive," a son picks up his wheelchair-bound father in the Glider and puts his father in the driver's seat, placing the wheelchair in the back. The father takes the wheel and drives for the first time in years, while the autonomously-capable sedan retracts the throttle and brake pedals and manages speed on its own. Designer Jin Kim posted detailed breakdown of his development work on the Glider, as well as the short film. The page is well worth a visit.    A four-seater SUV concept in the short "Amongst the Stars" features touch-screen windows and an augmented reality panoramic roof. The protagonist gets her first taste of a wide starry night during a family trip to White Sands National Park looking through the glass, the roof aiding her curiosity with displays like highlighting and naming constellations.
