Lexus LC Convertible Concept is likely headed for production
Fri, Jan 11 2019The Lexus LC works quite well as a stunning halo car for the Japanese brand, and we're big fans of the coupe's design, both inside and out. So we're excited by the prospect of the car you see above, which Lexus will officially unveil in just a few days at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. As it sits, the Lexus LC Convertible is a concept vehicle, but judging by statements from company executives, production is practically a foregone conclusion. "This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible," Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible concept, hints in the press release that accompanied this announcement. He adds, "A production version of this concept would be exhilarating in many different ways." Even if this concept is little more than an LC Coupe with its roof lopped off, the result is still very pretty. The droptop sits low to the ground on 22-inch wheels. Inside, elegant white leather dramatically contrasts with yellow stitching and dark-colored trimmings. The automaker isn't saying what's under the hood, but we'd guess a production version would offer both gasoline-fueled and hybridized powertrains similar to the coupe. Lexus bringing new F model to Detroit
Wed, Dec 17 2014Lexus has taken aim squarely at the likes of Mercedes-AMG and BMW M GmbH with its F line of performance models like the old IS F and the new RC F – and now it's preparing to showcase another one at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. There's little information to go on from the brief statement accompanying these two teaser images, but the Japanese automaker refers to its as "a track-ready" model. Could that mean a more extreme version of the RC F? Possibly, but the headlights are different – just like the units on the LF-C2 concept were different as well. It could just as easily be a concept for a new GS or LS sedan in F spec, even a reboot of the CT hybrid hatchback, or maybe a showcar of another nature altogether. Whatever it is, it looks enticing, what with the carbon fiber bits, low-profile rubber, lightweight alloys and oversized brakes. As for what form it'll take, we'll find out sooner or later, so watch this space. Earlier this year, the luxury manufacturer launched the RC F, a V8 powered performance coupe. The newest Lexus F brand vehicle will make its global premiere at the 2015 North American International Auto Show on Jan. 13.

Almost all of the details about the Toyota New Group Architecture (TNGA) strategy have come out since the initiative was first reported on in March of this year, but Autoblog did learn a few new things about it on a recent trip to Japan. Probably the second-most important detail is that each new segment platform will be based around a common hip point to create an "optimal driving position architecture."
