Lamborghini Urus will have a 650-horsepower twin-turbo V8
Mon, May 15 2017For years, we've known the Lamborghini Urus is coming. Concepts and spy shots give us a pretty good idea of what the replacement for the Rambo Lambo will look like. We also know that the Urus will be powered by a twin-turbo V8, with a plug-in hybrid variant coming sometime later in on. Thanks to Automotive News Europe, we now know that the new V8 will turn out an impressive 650 horsepower, more than Volkswagen Group brethren from Porsche and Bentley. In a recent interview, Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed the final horsepower rating. Torque is still unknown, but given the fact that this is a SUV with a turbocharged engine, look for a minimum of 600 lb-ft. The final output for the plug-in version is still up in the air. A full reveal is still a ways off, but production was set to start sometime last month. This should be the Italian automaker's volume seller, with base price possibly around $200,000, but that's not saying much when we're talking just a few thousand units a year. Lamborghini had its best year ever in 2016, so expect both more sales and longer waitlists when the Urus finally arrives. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Minnesota Vikings rookie Jordan Addison caught doing 140 in a 55 for a 'dog emergency'
Tue, Jul 25 2023At the end of April, NFL teams spent three days picking new players from the 2023 draft class. With the 23rd pick in the first of three rounds, the Minnesota Vikings chose a 21-year-old wide receiver named Jordan Addison, who came out of the University of Southern California. The season hasn't started yet — training camp began two days ago — and Addison has already had to publicly apologize to his new city. Two days before camp began, ESPN reported a Minnesota State Patrol officer caught Addison doing 140 miles per hour in a Lamborghini Urus at 3:07 in the morning. The speed limit on that stretch of I-94 in St. Paul, a mile from downtown, is 55 mph. The way a different ESPN report is written, it sounds like there were two troopers involved. Allegedly, "Addison first slowed down when he saw police lights from another trooper who was pulled over on the right shoulder of the road," and the second trooper made the stop, pulling the footballer over without incident. According to the misdemeanor citation issued for speeding and reckless driving, Addison "stated his dog was having an emergency at his residence and that was the reason for his speed." The ticket didn't go into details about the dog or the emergency. Addison has posed with his Urus before on Instagram, while the only dog in his feed at the moment is the little guy in the last photo, which appears to be, best guess, a French bulldog. No one else was involved. We hope the dog's OK. The next day, the rookie Viking issued the statement, "Yesterday morning I made a mistake and used poor judgment. I recognize and own that ... I am going to learn from this and not repeat the behavior. I am truly sorry." The Minnesota Vikings are aware of the incident and "gathering additional information." Drivers in the Minnesota caught doing more than 100 mph can have their licenses revoked, but It's not clear if the matter will go any further with the organization or the police. Â
Rare early Lamborghini Countach sells for record $1.2 million
Mon, 09 Jun 2014Lamborghini may have made headlines with the highly exclusive, $4.5-million Veneno and the even more expensive Veneno Roadster that followed, but when it comes to classics sold at auction, their prices seldom approach the kind of figures attained by rare classics made by arch-rival Ferrari. Early 350 GTs and rare Miuras (like the SV prototype Gooding sold a few years ago for a record $1.7 million) have been known to breach the seven-figure mark, but now the Countach is making its way into the big leagues as well.
Pictured here is a rather exceptional early example sold by Bonhams in Connecticut last week. This 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 "Periscopica" - so dubbed for the unique rearview mirror fitted to the first 150 examples made - has just over 10,000 miles on the odometer. With flawlessly retouched Blu Tahiti (read: French racing blue) paint and an immaculate deep tan leather interior, the Periscopica was the subject of feverish bidding before selling for $1.2 million to a buyer present at the auction, beating out a dozen or so telephone bidders.
The record price for a Countach trumps the previous record, also set by Bonhams at the Quail Lodge last August, where another '75 Periscopica sold for $836,000. The rising prices surely reflect the coming of age for the Countach, now nearly 40 years since its introduction - particularly for the generation that grew up idolizing it as the prototypical supercar. Scope it out in the artful gallery of 76 high-resolution images above and the details of the auction below.
