Watch a ham-fisted Russian wreck his Lamborghini

Fri, Jul 8 2016

Russia is responsible for some of the best dashcam videos on the planet. And today, we're sorry to say that includes the destruction of a poor Lamborghini. You can't always judge a book by its cover, but based on the look of this particular Lambo – a chromed finish and aftermarket alloys – its driver probably has more money than talent. That's probably the best explanation for why he was driving so quickly in such treacherous conditions. After looping around one vehicle, the back steps out and the car – The Daily Sun incorrectly calls it a Huracan, but it's a Murcielago – spears an innocent Peugeot. The Lambo ends its journey by colliding with a guardrail, splaying most of its front end across the M9 motorway outside Moscow. Police took the Lamborghini's driver, a 30-year-old man, into custody for his role in the wreck. One witness told The Daily Sun that the supercar passed the film car like it was standing still, something police confirmed, saying "[The Lamborghini owner] was driving at high speed on the wet tarmac and lost control." YouTuber Alex Choi charged with shooting fireworks at a Lambo from a helicopter

Fri, Jun 7 2024

YouTubers often do crazy things to get views, and the stunts sometimes run afoul of the law. Alex Choi, a popular content creator and social media personality, recently found the limits of the law the hard way. He was arrested for a video posted last year in which people in a helicopter shot fireworks at a Lamborghini. The 24-year-old is charged with causing the placement of an explosive or incendiary device on an aircraft. He made his first court appearance yesterday. If he’s convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with charges stemming from ChoiÂ’s alleged lack of a permit to film and carry fireworks in a helicopter. In the now-deleted video, Choi drove the Lamborghini while two women in the helicopter shot fireworks at the car. He said he coordinated the shoot and was listed in the credits as a director, so it will be hard to deny that he had a part. ThereÂ’s no word on charges for others in the video, but the FAA revoked the helicopter pilotÂ’s license for the stunt. Choi is no stranger to auto-related stunts and controversy. In 2022, he hosted a Tesla meetup in which a person jumped a Model S. He filmed the stunt and posted it to YouTube, capturing the driver hitting a parked car. They also allegedly had passengers and a stray cat in the Tesla at the time. Choi is well-known in tuner circles, as heÂ’s been involved in several social media drag races and other events. He raced a 1,000-horsepower Lamborghini Huracan against an 800-horsepower Dodge Polara on HooniganÂ’s YouTube channel a couple of years ago and has been known to do crazy things with expensive cars for views, though this stunt might be one that causes him to think twice going forward. Lamborghini's first EV will be a sports car with usable rear seats

Mon, Apr 10 2023

Lamborghini's first series-produced electric car will make its debut by the end of the 2020s. We know the EV will arrive as a fourth model line, not as a battery-powered version of an existing car, and the brand revealed some of the areas it's focusing on during the design phase. Company boss Stephan Winkelmann recently confirmed the yet-unnamed EV will arrive as a grand tourer with a 2+2 seating layout, so it will bring Lamborghini back to a segment it left many decades ago. Federico Foschini, the firm's chief marketing and sales officer, revealed that the rear seats won't be merely for show: He told Motor Authority that they'll be "comfortable." Reading between the lines suggests that the EV will fill the gap between Lamborghini's two-seater super-sports cars, such as the new Revuelto flagship, and the family-friendly Urus SUV. Foschini added that two adults will be able to travel in the EV's back seats. This is fairly rare in 2023: most of the 2+2s currently on sale, including the Porsche 911, have rear seats that are best left to small kids. One of the few exceptions is the new, second-generation Maserati GranTurismo, which is surprisingly spacious for its segment. The Bentley Continental GT is also big enough to accommodate four adults. It's too early to provide technical specifications because the EV isn't scheduled to land in showrooms until 2028 at the earliest. Regardless of what the model is powered by, Foschini noted that the development team is shooting for over 300 miles of range. "This is what you need, because it's a full electric vehicle. You have no alternative range," he told Motor Authority. Note that "over 300 miles" is the best-case scenario; the executive clarified that the total number will depend on the driving mode selected, which is also true for combustion engines. More details about Lamborghini's upcoming electric model will emerge in the coming months. In the meantime, the Italian brand is preparing to electrify its entire range by 2024. The first step on this path is the aforementioned Revuelto, which uses a gasoline-electric hybrid system built around a new, 6.5-liter V12 engine. Next is the successor to the Huracan, which will reportedly use plug-in hybrid technology as well.
