All original 1980 Jeep CJ5 including the factory paint. It runs good with no smoke as one would expect with only 64k original, documented miles. I bought this jeep last year and had it shipped from southern California. As everybody knows, vehicles just don't rust out there. This is a very good rust free jeep in original, unmolested shape. Perfect for a show quality restoration project. It has a four cylinder engine with power steering and brakes. I never drove it so I can't speak for the Jeep in that respect. However, all plans were to totally restore it. So I started buying goodies for it. None are installed but all are included with the sale. Brand new, $1000, still in the box Old Man Emu YJ suspension kit. This includes OME shocks, shackles, 4 springs with the fronts being the wider 2.5", brake lines, transfer case spacers, mounting brackets, nuts, bolts and bushings. The YJ suspension gives the CJ a mush better ride. Rebuilt Hummer H1 power steering box. I removed the original steering box from the jeep as I had to hand it in for the core charge.  This is an exact replacement but a far superior box for the Jeep with a larger internal piston and variable ratio steering which the Jeep CJ's didn't have from the factory. New parking brake foot assembly. Used hood. The original hood has a fixable dent in it but I already had a good used hood. Both go with the sale. Good running 1985 Mercedes Benz OM617 5 cylinder turbo charged diesel engine. This is a popular engine swap for the Jeep CJ with a lot of following. Front and back wide track axles. The CJ5 only came with the narrow track axles from the factory. These will give the Jeep a bit more stability. Last, I have a used tilt steering column.
A Jeep CJ5 was my high school vehicle and always wanted to have another one since. However; My wife and I have started a new business late last year and it's demonstrating very promising results. We're in need of both time and money as we are already expanding. Needless to say, we also need the space in the barn for the business. With a tear in my eye and a chance to improve our future as well as others, the Jeep has been targeted for dismissal. It wouldn't take much to put this Jeep back on the road. Thank you for looking and questions are welcomed.

SEMA crowns Mustang, FR-S as this year's hottest cars in the building

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

After wrapping up the first day of the 2012 SEMA Show, organizers handed out awards for some of the trendiest vehicles on display. Since the whole point of SEMA is to show off new products available in the aftermarket world for use in cars, trucks and SUVs, each year, the show distinguishes the most popular vehicle in various segments. Not surprisingly, this year's Hottest Car and Hottest Sport Compact are the Ford Mustang and Scion FR-S, respectively, while the Ford F-Series brought home the Hottest Truck and the Jeep Wrangler was named the Hottest 4x4-SUV.
More than 2,000 companies are at this year's show, and the display booths represents a "vote" for each car to determing the trendiest vehicles in each of the four categories. It isn't clear if these awards also take cars brought by OEMs into account, but the Mustang and FR-S were definitely well represented by both OEM and aftermarket show versions.
As usual, the OEMs showed up in force at the this year's SEMA Show exhibiting a variety of cars ranging from production-intent cars like the beastly Ford Mustang Cobra Jet to much flashier rides like Scion's Carbon Stealth FR-S.

Chrysler recalling nearly 141k vehicles over electrical woes

Wed, 02 Oct 2013

Software glitches that randomly illuminate warning lights and cause instrument cluster blackouts are forcing Chrysler to recall 140,800 vehicles, The Detroit News reports. The automaker is recalling 132,000 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 91,559 of which are in the US. In addition to the Jeep recalls, Chrysler is adding 10,800 2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks to the list for similar problems.
Chrysler reportedly says, "Both events occurred infrequently and appeared to resolve themselves by tuning the vehicle's ignition off and then on."
Engineers discovered a problem with the anti-lock-braking system software that causes the instrument cluster display of the Grand Cherokee to illuminate warning lights and black out - even its ABS and electronic stability control systems are affected. To fix the Jeeps, Chrysler will update the vehicle's software.

FCA to appeal reduced judgment in Georgia Jeep case

Thu, Aug 13 2015

FCA is appealing the $40 million verdict against it in a case in Georgia where a four-year-old boy died in a fire in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to The Detroit News. The jury originally awarded the child's family $150 million, but the judge decided to significantly to reduce the amount based on other precedents. The automaker has been considering further legal options since the decision was announced in July. The boy's death happened in 2012 when he was riding in a Grand Cherokee. The vehicle was rear-ended, and the fuel tank burst, causing a fire. This is the same issue that led to a recall of millions of the SUVs and a recent agreement with the US government from FCA to pay to get them fixed. In the original ruling, the jury said that the automaker was 99 percent responsible for the fatality and didn't adequately warn owners. It asked the company to pay $120 million for wrongful death and $30 million for his pain and suffering. FCA countered that the Jeeps met the safety standards of the time they were made. FCA requested that the jury's award be reduced in May calling the amount "grossly excessive." If the family didn't agree to a lower amount, the company also threatened to seek a new trial. Among the arguments was that $30 million was too much for the child's one minute of suffering. The parents did accept the judge's adjusted figure, though.
