Up for auction is a 1980 Jeep CJ-5 that is not running.  It was purchased in January with the intention of making a strong, reliable Jeep but 7.5 months later I need to sell as is.

This is my 8th CJ that I've owned and this AMC 258 motor is the strongest I've had.  The transmission is a T-176 4-speed with a Dana 300 transfer case.
Power steering and front disc brakes.   4" lift with 33" tires. 3:54 gears. One piece axles with Lock Rite locker in the rear.  All gauges and lights work.  Previous owner confirmed the motor is a rebuilt 1985 AMC 258.  There is rust at your usual spots.  Where the roll bar meets the passenger side floor pan needs to be repaired.  Rear passenger side corner has dent (see photo).  Driver window has 2 small tears.  There is an old Ramsey 8.5 winch with remote control. The battery cables need to be converted to mount to the top terminal post of the Optima battery.

...

Before I talk about what the Jeep has, I'll let you know what it needs first -- or what my plans were.

1. Front bumper - I cut off the old hand-made bumper because it was blocking the spring shackles.  Rockhard bumper with winch mount is what I was planning to get.
2.  Radiator - old radiator is garbage.  Planned to put Be Cool radiator in.
3.  Motor mount frame horn passenger side - cracked in 2.  used one is $65 at Republic Jeep
4.  Rocker arm kit - I went to put a new valve cover gasket on and noticed a bent bridge.  Needs new bridge $18.99 at Quadratec for entire kit.
5. Front spring shackles - bent, my plan was M-O-R-E shackle reversal
6.  Tires & Wheels - tires have locker wear and wheels have some dings.
7.  Tie rod / draglink - upgrade to heavy duty
8.  1 Headlight bucket, 1 headlight retawing ring, 1 bezel - between the two headlights, 1 of each needs replaced
9. Body mounts - all body mounts are in need of replacement
10.  Cut front fenders flat to be rid of dents

Making the Compatriot the Jeep we want - and deserve

Fri, Jul 8 2016

If you're one of the hottest brands in the world, and you need to replace two vehicles that sell at a rate of nearly 200k a year, what exactly are you going to do? Do you take the safe route and attempt to mirror what has largely kept you a success thus far, or do you improve on the formula, and better sort your lineup? After 10 years with the Jeep Compass and Patriot, it is time for both to hang up their jackets and go in for the long dirt nap. And what a strange 10 years it's been. Born of the age of Diamler-Chrysler, the "Merger of equals," the Compass and Patriot were brought into this world to shore up sales of Jeep worldwide, pull on the heartstrings of former Cherokee owners, and make sure teenage girls had an affordable crossover to buy in just a few years. As much as I like to throw shade at each model on both subjective and objective basis, I truly find the purpose of each vehicle to be relatively endearing. For less than $22,000, you could (that is, if you could find one) walk out of your local Jeep dealer with a 4x4 crossover, with a manual gearbox, decent all-weather performance, and somewhat respectable fuel economy. This of course ignores the fact that they weren't packaged all that well, based on the outrageously terrible Dodge Caliber, and used all those shared bits and bobs with Mitsubishi that should have been shelved by 2010. Yet, the twins lived on, and on, and on. We've heard stories as far back as 2012 that they weren't long for our world, and then we get news that they're making it through 2017. Just in time for the "Compatriot" to arrive. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out what Jeep intends to do with the Compatriot. As far as most blogs seem to know, we're getting a Compass and Patriot replacement that is based on the already well-received Renegade. A little bit of a stretch on the chassis will certainly aid in ride quality, and the Grand Cherokee styling cues will give it a much more upscale demeanor. Even the interior has looked very well executed, with a positively huge uConnect screen set in the middle of the dash. Could Jeep actually be trying to take their Compass and Patriot replacement significantly more up the product chain? I certainly hope so. If you pilot your browser over to the Jeep configurators, you might be surprised by how low the base prices are on almost all of their products. Less than $30k for a new Cherokee? A Renegade for just under $18k? What a deal!

Jeep Twitter account hacked, bad language, poor grammar and some hilarity ensue

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

Just a day after Burger King's Twitter account was compromised by "unauthorized users," Jeep's social media feed has been similarly hacked. Both instances of digital incursion share some similarities - the BK hackers changed the company's logo for McDonald's familiar golden arches, saying a sale had occurred, while the Jeep miscreants have replaced Jeep's branding with that of General Motors property Cadillac.
The resulting tweets from the damaged Jeep account have been a pretty brutal, to put it bluntly. Most of the content coming from the hacked account is unpublishable here, using language that is peppered with racial epithets, and poorly worded "shout outs."
In addition to the defamatory tweets themselves, the hackers have significantly altered the layout of the page. Jeep's header image now features a picture of the Cadillac ATS to go along with the Wreath and Crest, some language calling out that car as winning the 2013 North American Car of the Year award, and this gem: "The official Twitter handle for the Jeep(R) - Just Empty Every Pocket, Sold To Cadillac =[" Also, perhaps in an ode to yesterday's Burger King heist, the background image for the page now features a McDonald's-themed donk. The devil's in the details, we guess.
