You are bidding on a 1971 Jeep CJ5 Project.  The trailer shown in the pictures is not included.  I purchased this with hopes of completing it as a fun toy.  Unfortunately I have lost the storage space that I planned on using and rather than letting it sit I would rather it go to someone that can finish it.  Now about the Jeep.....

Frame/ChassisThis project is a combination of a number of different parts.  The frame appears very solid.  A former owner had done a nice job of cleaning and painting it.  There are a few spots that need repainted but overall very solid.  The original springs were swapped for some newer (and slightly longer) Jeep springs which should give it a better ride.  The front end has a shackle reversal which should allow it to handle better.  The previous owner also has mounted a Saginaw power steering box.  Personally I would trim some of the excess steel away from the mount.  I also have a stock cast iron Saginaw box mount that I will include.  I purchased the Jeep without a steering column but I include a steering column and wheel from another Jeep that I parted out.  You will need to come up with a shaft from the column to the box but those are relatively common and inexpensive.

Body:  The body tub and fenders are fiberglass.  The hood, grille and windshield frame are steel.  The tub was made by 4WD Hardware which from what I understand they made good bodies.  The steel parts are in good condition and the windshield glass is nice.  Although not shown, I purchased a used gas tank that looks to be in good shape.  I also have the metal surrounding piece for the tank inlet and a new rubber gasket.  I do not have any seats for this project.  I have two radiators that I think can be made to work.  One is new and the other is an older used radiator from Ford Mustang that looks good.  For the most part you will need to wire this Jeep and you will need to purchase a speedometer.  Since it came to me without a speedometer I listed the milage at 99,999.

Drivetrain: The Jeep was converted to a Chevy V6 (not sure but I believe it to be a 4.3) and Muncie 4 speed conected to a Dana 20 transfercase via a Novak adapter.  These adapters typically sell for about $600.00.  The motor is locked and does not have a starter, distributor or flywheel.  It looks like its purpose was to mock up the mounts and such.  My plan was to pick up another running V6 (typically about $300 to $400 around here) or possibly a V8.  Since the motor does run I could not test the transmission but it seems to shift nice.  In addition to the Model 20 transfercase that is currently attached, I also have another Model 20 transfercase that looks pretty good and since I have no plans for it I will include it in the deal.  The Jeep came to me without driveshafts but I have a couple from another Jeep project that might work and I will throw them in.  There currently is no exhaust.  There is a pedal assembly that came with the Jeep.  It is the dual chamber style.   I have a brand new mastercylinder that I will include.  The rear axle is a 4.27 ratio.  I did not pull the front cover but I will assume it has the same ratio.

Tires/Wheels:  The tires are LT325 BF Goodrich.  They are a few years old but I don't think they were driven much if at all.

Roll bar / Roll cage:  It is not shown but I have a roll bar from another jeep that I will thow in.  I also have the front bars to a roll cage that I will include in case you would like to weld them on and make a roll cage.  The roll bar and cage parts have some surface rust.  They will need cleaned and painted but they are solid.

Personally I think this project has a lot of potential and would make a nice ride when finished but keep in mind that it is a project and still requires some work and some parts with the motor being the biggest issue.  This is not something that you will have finished in a weekend.  I am sure that I have missed something and I would be more than happy to discuss this with you.  Please email me through the Ebay "Ask a Question" system or call me via my cell (304-951-7375).

A $200 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours after the close of the auction.  The balance within 2 weeks via cash or certified check.  I am happy to store the Jeep for up to 30 days (unless other arrangements are made prior to the end of the auction).  Vehicle will not be released and title will not be transferred until full payment has been made.  The Jeep is located in Charleston, WV.

Fiesta-sized Jeep coming in 2014

Wed, 03 Jul 2013

We've heard rumors before about a new, baby Jeep to slot below the new-for-2014 Cherokee (pictured) in the automaker's lineup. Now, Edmunds is reporting that the new crossover will arrive sometime in 2014, and will be about the same size as the Ford Fiesta. This currently unnamed vehicle will effectively replace both the Compass and Patriot in the Jeep lineup.
Speaking to Edmunds, Jeep CEO Mike Manley said that the new, small Jeep will be assembled in Italy and marketed globally beginning sometime next year. Manley did not provide many details on the new model, but did say that it will be 4.2-meters (165 inches) long. The Cherokee, by comparison, is 4.6-meters long (181 inches). Furthermore, Edmunds reports that while the new small Jeep will offer diesel power in other markets, there are no plans for an oil-burning version here in the US.
Many other automakers are exploring this smaller crossover segment here in the US. General Motors recently launched the Buick Encore, which is loosely based on the Chevrolet Sonic subcompact's platform. Ford has already launched its Fiesta-based EcoSport in other markets, and has reportedly been pondering the idea of offering it in the US, as well.

These are the cars with the best and worst depreciation after 5 years

Thu, Nov 19 2020

The average new vehicle sold in America loses nearly half of its initial value after five years of ownership. No surprise there; we all expect that shiny new car to start depreciating as soon as we drive it off the lot. But some vehicles lose value a lot faster than others. According to data provided by iSeeCars.com, trucks and truck-based sport utility vehicles generally hold their value better than other vehicle types, with the Jeep Wrangler — in both four-door Unlimited and standard two-door styles — and Toyota Tacoma sitting at the head of the pack. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's average five-year depreciation of 30.9% equals a loss in value of $12,168. That makes Jeep's four-door off-roader the best overall pick for buyers looking to minimize depreciation. The Toyota Tacoma's 32.4% loss in initial value means it loses just $10,496. The smaller dollar amount — the least amount of money lost after five years — indicates that Tacoma buyers pay less than Wrangler Unlimited buyers, on average, when they initially buy the vehicle. The standard two-door Jeep Wrangler is third on the list, depreciating 32.8% after five years and losing $10,824. Click here for a full list of the top 10 vehicles with the least depreciation over five years. On the other side of the depreciation coin, luxury sedans tend to plummet in value at a much faster rate than other vehicle types. The BMW 7 Series leads the losers with a 72.6% drop in value after five years, which equals an alarming $73,686. BMW's slightly smaller 5 Series is next, depreciating 70.1%, or $47,038, over the same period. Number three on the biggest losers list is the Nissan Leaf, the only electric vehicle to appear in the bottom 10. The electric hatchback matches the 5 Series with a 70.1% drop in value, but since it's a much cheaper vehicle, that percentage equals a much smaller $23,470 loss. Jeep Wrangler Mojo and Cherokee Dakar teased ahead of Moab Easter Safari

Wed, 02 Apr 2014

Jeep has an annual tradition of debuting wild, new concepts during its Easter Jeep Safari, and this year looks to be no different. The automaker has already confirmed two of the six vehicles for 2014 - the Cherokee Dakar (pictured above) and Wrangler Mojo. This year's event runs in Moab, Utah, from April 12-20.
There are no official details about either of the concepts yet - Jeep will release more info on the new models next week. Judging by the pictures, though, the Cherokee Dakar appears to be lifted with some knobby off-road tires. The Wrangler Mojo looks to have a bulging hood that might hide a more powerful engine underneath.
Past vehicles at the Easter Jeep Safari have included a Hemi V8-powered Wrangler, a classically inspired pickup and modernized Jeep Forward Control. Since this is the brand's chance to express itself every year, hopefully it has some more sensational concepts up its sleeve. Scroll down to read the little information that has been revealed about this year's models so far.
