Chrysler recalling 630k Jeep models worldwide
Thu, 06 Jun 2013Despite its refusal to recall 2.7 million Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty models this week over a gas tank fire risk, Chrysler will be recalling 630,000 Jeep Compass (pictured), Patriot and Wrangler vehicles around the globe for a pair of entirely different reasons.
The affected Compass and Patriot models are all from the 2010 to 2012 model years - 254,000 in the United States, 45,400 in Canada and 109,000 elsewhere in the world. In these models, a software error may result in the late deployment of the side airbags and seatbelt tensioners. In the event of a crash, failure of these systems could result in more serious injuries for the vehicle's occupants.
Jeep's go-anywhere Wrangler also faces a separate recall due to power steering fluid lines that can possibly wear a hole in the transmission oil cooler line. According to Chrysler, the vehicles could then leak fluid, possibly damaging the transmissions. Roughly 221,100 Wrangler models are being recalled because of this issue, all of which are fitted with Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. In the US, 181,000 vehicles are affected, with an additional 18,400 in Canada and 21,700 additional units worldwide. A Chrysler spokesperson said that no crashes or injuries have been reported with either case, according to the Associated Press.
Here's another look at the next-gen Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Thu, Mar 30 2017Yesterday, we got a sneak peek at the next generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. As you might expect, it looks a lot like the current Wrangler. Really, did you expect anything different? The big news is that the leaked images show that the doors and top are removable, something that was unclear until now. Thanks to our friends at JL Wrangler Forums, we have some pretty new renderings based on those same leaked images. While these aren't official, this should be pretty damn close to what the final production model will look like. While it may be all new, the design is just a revolution of the tried and true formula. Fans might burn down the factory if designers strayed too far. The entire body has been worked over, with changes to the grille, bumper, fenders, and lights. The square tail lights look a lot like those on the Renegade. We keep seeing more and more leaks and spy photos, so an official reveal can't be too far off. In addition to the four-door Wrangler Unlimited, look for the long awaited Wrangler pickup truck. UPS employees band together to buy car for teen coworker
Fri, Mar 3 2017A young Alabama man got the surprise of a lifetime this week when his co-workers presented him with his very own car for his daily commute. According to the Daily Mail, 19-year-old Derrick Taylor started working at the Oxford, Alabama, UPS freight center a year and a half ago to support his ailing mother. With precious little money left over after bills and healthcare, Taylor had no money to afford a vehicle so he walked the five miles to and from work every day. Despite numerous offers of rides and loans, the young man was too proud to accept even the slightest help from his co-workers. Desperate to do something for him, Taylor's co-workers raised money in secret and bought him a used Jeep Cherokee off a local lot. 'This is a hard working young man. He makes me emotional. This young man wants to work so bad, he walks to work from way out of town," said James Williams, Taylor's safety instructor. "The group here, we've got some good news for you. Everybody came together and you don't have to walk no more. You've got your own ride. We want you to know we appreciate your hard work." Deeply moved, Taylor stood for a moment and wiped tears away before he walked over to check out the Jeep. "I was overwhelmed with joy. No one had ever done anything like that for me so it made me cry and I'm not really the type to show my emotions," he told the Daily Mail.
