1973 Jeep Commando on 2040-cars
Johnson City, Tennessee, United States
This is a really nice jeep. I got it from a friend in Georgia who had it siting in a barn. I went through it mechanically and shot it flat black to prevent rust. I did not fix any of the little dents or dings but I did replace some metal in the floors and replaced the tailgate because of rust. There is still a little rust in the bottom of the rocker panels (see pictures), beyond that it is rust free. I built it to goof off in and have very much enjoyed it over the past few years but now it spends most of it's time in my barn only getting driven 3 or 4 times a year so I have decided to sell it, clearing some space in the barn and letting someone else enjoy the Jeep. I have replaced all the brakes including hard lines and master cylinder, new tires, radiator, water pump, gas tank, carburetor, HEI distributor, front seats, custom made bumpers, new tailgate and roll bar with new three point seat belts. It has 2" lift springs from Hell Creek along with new shocks and stainless steel brake lines. When driven regularly, the jeep starts easily and runs very well. At temperature (after being driven for a while) the engine temperature is at a constant 180 degrees and the oil pressure is at 20 lbs at idle and 55 lbs when driving. The transmission is the TH400 automatic and it shifts smooth and works as it should. The transfer case is the old gear driven type, Dana 20 I think, and the 4wd works as it should. The jeep has power steering (the steering unit leaks a little) and power brakes. The odometer reads 60,522. I have no way of knowing if it is actual or not. What the jeep does not have is a hard top. I have the back hatch to the hard top but no hard top, only a bikini top. Terms for this auction: The buyer is responsible for shipping, I will be as helpful as I can in working with your shipper but arranging and paying for shipping is the buyer's responsibility. Please do not bid if you do not have the money in hand to buy. I will not go back and forth with someone's back to help with financing. A $500 deposit via pay pal will be due within 24 hours of the auction's close. The remaining balance will be due in CASH within two weeks of the auction's close and the jeep will need to be picked up within that time as well. Any other arrangements or types of payment will have to be worked out before you bid. Any type of bank check would have to clear my bank before the jeep is released to your shipper. If when you come to get the Jeep you believe I have misrepresented something I will refund $400 of your deposit via pay pal. I reserve the option to cancel bids from folks with negative or zero feedback. |

FCA recalling 63k Jeeps, Vipers and Ram ProMaster City vans
Thu, Apr 23 2015Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced a pair of recalls cover nearly 63,000 vehicles. The bigger of the two actions covers manual-transmission-equipped vehicles from 2006, including the Jeep Liberty and Wrangler, as well as the Dodge Viper. FCA engineers uncovered that the clutch ignition interlock switches use a kind of wire that was part of a previous recall campaign. Because of this, the company said that affected vehicles may not start, although in rare cases, "if recommended starting procedures are not followed," the affected vehicles may lurch forward after turning the key. Those recommended starting procedures "include activating the parking brake, placing the shift lever in neutral and pressing the clutch pedal before turning the vehicle's ignition key." Recall number two affects the company's 2015 Ram ProMaster City cargo and passenger vans. Owners will need to report to dealers to have a piece of tape removed from the side-curtain airbags. The tape is added during assembly and in some cases, may not have been removed. That could prevent the airbags from deploying in the event of a crash. Just under 59,000 vehicles are included in the first recall, including 43,874 in the United States, 11,309 outside of North America, 2,944 in Canada and 706 in Mexico. The ProMaster City recall includes just over 3,900 vehicles. FCA claims it's unaware of any injuries, fatalities or accidents related to either recall and will perform repairs free of charge. Scroll down for the official press release on both campaigns. Related Video: Statement: Clutch Ignition Interlock Switch April 23, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is launching a voluntary recall of an estimated 43,874 older-model U.S.-market cars and SUVs equipped with manual transmissions. The Company will replace their clutch ignition interlock switches at no charge to customers. The action follows an investigation by FCA US engineers that discovered these vehicles are equipped with switches that contain a certain type of wire implicated in a previous campaign. The wire, which was temporarily substituted by a supplier for the specified material, may break. As a result, the vehicles may not start, and in rare cases – if recommended starting procedures are not followed – a vehicle may exhibit unintended movement when its ignition key is turned. FCA US is unaware of aware of any related injuries or accidents involving this population of vehicles.

Australian Jeep marketing stunt goes awry [w/video]
Tue, 15 Jul 2014Jeep fans in Australia are none too happy with the off-road brand following a contest that saw ten new Cherokees sold for just $10,000 Australian (about $9,400), roughly a quarter of the vehicle's price Down Under.
The contest, called the "World's Most Remote Dealership," gave Aussies the chance to snag an ultra-affordable Cherokee Longitude (analogous to the US-spec Latitude trim), provided they could get to a secret dealership in the remote wilderness of western New South Wales, near the border with the state of South Australia.
In order to get the exact location of the dealership, though, potential customers needed to download an app, which would release a phone number 9:00 AM AEST on Thursday (7:00 PM EDT, Wednesday night). The first ten people who could call in and prove they could afford to finance $10,000 and get to the remote dealership, were given the location of the remote dealership.
