1967 Jeep Cj-6 - Total Rebuild W/ Custom Roll Cage - Under 19,000 Original Miles on 2040-cars
Encinitas, California, United States
Truly one of a kind Jeep Cj-6 with integrated custom through-body roll cage and four opposing Range Rover jump seats
Purchased in March of 1967 by the White River Township Fire and Rescue Department in Winchester Indiana, she was used as a brush vehicle in service until 2002. Actual milage in 2002 was under 10,000 miles (I have a letter from Chief Stacy H. Lewis attesting to this). Current mileage is under 19,000 miles. She has been in my possession since 2010. Partial restoration done by High Lift Jack Co. in the early 2000's. Between 2010 and 2013 she was disassembled, the engine (original) was taken apart and cleaned and reassembled. All plastic and rubber parts were replaced. A fully integrated custom roll-cage was fabricated with safety in mind. Four Range Rover jump seats with custom headrests are bolted to the roll-cage. The driver and passengers are all secured in the vehicle with 4 or 5-point racing harnesses. The exterior was repainted, and the interior was fully line-x'ed (the engine compartment was also line-x'ed). The steering column was replaced with one that tilts, steering wheel and foot pedals were also replaced. A custom bikini top was installed, and two custom 1/2 doors were built (they are presently stored, as I do not use them). She sports a new rear-view mirror and new windshield wiper motors were installed. The tires have less than 6,000 miles on them. She was repainted white. Well over $30,000 invested in the rebuild and restoration. I am selling because I have one child attending university and another planning to enter graduate school. She has No accidents, No mechanical issues. As for open issues, they are only aesthetic. There are a few imperfections in the paint, and oxidation on the tilt bar and turn signal handle; some fading from being in the sun. She drives straight as an arrow, and has LOADS of torque. She was out on the sand (beach) this summer and handled tremendously. Please ask any questions before purchasing, as the sale is final. I require a $500.00 PayPal deposit within 24 hours of purchase. She is available for pick-up near San Diego, California. I am not able to arrange shipping, but will do whatever it takes to facilitate shipping. I am not a dealer and make no warranties express or otherwise. I would be happy to bring her to a mechanic of your choice to have her looked over, or I would be equally pleased to have my mechanic write a detailed report on her health. Please look at the pictures - she is truly a one of a kind gem. |

Chrysler recalls 468,700 Jeep Grand Cherokees, Commanders over rollaway risk
Mon, 13 May 2013Chrysler has issued a recall covering a combined 469,000 units of the 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2006-2010 Jeep Commander (inset). Of that number, 295,000 are in the US, roughly 33,000 in Canada and Mexico and the remainder in other markets. It seems an electrical fault in the transfer case can allow the affected SUVs to shift into neutral on their own, while an Associated Press report says that Chrysler had "found cracks in a circuit board that turns the four-wheel-drive system on and off." The issue was discovered when an owner started his car remotely and it rolled away.
Chrysler is expected to begin notifying owners in June 2013, who can then take their cars to dealers. The dealer will reflash the final drive controller free of charge. There's a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration below with more information.
Why Mopar won't release a factory lift kit for the new Jeep Cherokee
Thu, 24 Apr 2014The Jeep Cherokee Dakar concept showed off at the 2014 Easter Jeep Safari made a lot of online friends, even the Cherokee naysayers assenting that there's a monster Jeep underneath the Cherokee's skin if you're willing to go in and get it. But after reading Road & Track's write-up of what went into creating the Dakar, particularly its lift, you'll understand why you'll probably never see the components for it in the Jeep Performance Parts catalog.
The concept's press release mentions a "prototype Jeep Performance Parts lift kit, and additional suspension modifications." The short-story explanation is that the front struts on the standard Cherokee weren't engineered to accept any amount of lift, so the long story begins with the phrase, "an entirely new suspension." Head over to RT to read the details, and don't be afraid to ogle the Cherokee Dakar gallery and another awesome Jeep fancy that won't likely crawl over the hurdles imposed by production reality.
Updated 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee ace same controversial moose test it failed in 2012 [w/video]
Thu, 02 Jan 2014Some background: one of the more scandalous international incidents of he-said/he-said from 2012 was when Swedish magazine Teknikens Varld put the Jeep Grand Cherokee through its "moose (or elk) test" and reported that the SUV nearly rolled over. That lead to a whole lot of accusations and rebuttals: more than one website and Chrysler's own blog reported that the Jeep was overloaded; Chrysler said Teknikens printed the magazine then let Chrysler respond, Teknikens answered all of the charges in a lengthy post and said Chrysler was given a chance to comment before it went to print; when Chrysler sent investigators to oversee the test and the Jeep didn't go up on two wheels as it did in the first test, furthermore all four wheels stayed on the ground when Auto Motor und Sport tested a Grand Cherokee in the same way.
Teknikens then re-ran the test with a new vehicle and said it's been doing this test since the 1970s, uses the loading information that Chrysler provides to the Swedish motor authority and the previous Grand Cherokee passed with no problem. In the second test, the Jeep failed again, then it gave Chrysler engineers access to the car's electronics and ran the test again. In that second round the Grand Cherokee didn't repeat the lurid two-wheel action, but in eleven runs it blew out front left tire seven times. Chrysler still objects to the results of all of those tests and maintains that vehicle was safe.
The 2014 Grand Cherokee was given its shot at the gauntlet in the latest round of moose tests, and Teknikens Varld reports that it passed without any problem at all, its stability control working perfectly, controlling motion at low speeds and all the way up to 44.1 miles per hour. You can watch the video of the new test and read the press release from the magazine on the updated Grand Cherokee below.
