The expensive work is done.
Straight body, excellent paint. All corroded metal on the car was replaced with
new. There is no corrosion or rust in the usual places -- under the doors,
floor pans, spare tyre wheel well, etc. The front subframe was replaced. The
interior is all "Biscuit" leather, from a factory kit. It was shipped
to me in an enclosed trailer. The car drives beautifully. Exact mileage is unknown -- less than 5,000 since restoration. The car has a story . The
original bonnet was torn up by a truck backing into, so the original owner
installed a factory Series 1 (with the covered headlights) after. He (correctly)
thought the earlier one was prettier. The color is a close match to the Vanwall
grand prix cars of the late 50's, which was one of the variants of British
Racing Green at the time. The virtues are exceptional. The
4.2 liter engine and transmission were redone by a retired Jaguar mechanic. It
has No oil or fluid leaks, doesn't overheat at idle, and though cold-blooded on
starting, with a few minutes warmup idles nicely at about 850 rpm. Carburetors
were rebuilt. The synchros in the transmission work just fine. No noise in the
transmission or rear end beyond normal 45-yr-old Jaguar sounds. Since restoration, never in the rain or snow, never out in really cold weather. This car has spent most of the last decade parked indoors in a plastic bubble with temp/humidity control supplied by a fan. Title is clear. It is not a salvage car. It is registered and titled in Oregon, and the tags are good until 1/16. There is some documentation of the restoration, but it is not complete. (The original elderly owner bought it to drive -- not as an investment or a show car. He just didn't care about documenting everything.) Please don't presume I'll drop the price so someone else can flip it and sell it for more. I'm looking for someone who wants a really nice Car - not an investment security. It's been that all its life. I'm not making a dime on it. |

More Jaguar F-Pace details revealed [w/video]
Thu, Aug 27 2015The Jaguar F-Pace will make its full debut on September 15 at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. But for folks like us that want every detail about the compact crossover ahead of time, Jaguar is continuing the ongoing tease. This time, the company puts the emphasis on the CUV's suspension development and includes a video to prove that it works. The F-Pace is promising to be quite a crisp handler with a double-wishbone layout for the front suspension and an integral link setup at the rear. Cornering is further enhanced by an all-wheel-drive system that features torque vectoring adapted from the F-Type. Stopping shouldn't be an issue either because the brakes are also based on the units from the sports car. In addition, the company is making the lofty promise that crossover's electric power-assisted power steering offers "greater feedback and control than hydraulic systems." Production of the crossover should get underway at the Solihull, UK, factory soon because the F-Pace hits the market in 2016. The powertrain range is expected to include the new Ingenium four-cylinder engine family and the brand's fantastic sounding, supercharged V6. All the details should be officially revealed in Frankfurt, though. Until then, give the F-Pace a listen in the clip below. This content is hosted by a third party. Highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the McLaren P1 and a Ford Transit running the hill
Mon, 15 Jul 2013The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.
Jaguar Land Rover recalls Takata airbag-equipped cars
Fri, Aug 5 2016In the latest chapter of what feels like the never-ending recall, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it's calling back 2009-2011 Jaguar XFs and 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rovers for defective Takata airbags on the front passenger side. These Takata airbags have propellant that may have degraded and, if activated, could release metal shrapnel. The company is breaking up the recall into four phases, since currently there are not enough parts to do a full recall. Since the airbags can be more seriously affected by high heat and humidity, the first phase will cover vehicles that were sold and/or registered in regions with high temperatures and humidity. The regions included are as follows: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the US Virgin Islands. Other phases will begin as parts become available, and priority will be given to regions at greater risk of having defective equipment. Jaguar Land Rover encourages owners of affected vehicles to go to www.SaferCar.gov to check if their vehicle is included in the current recall. The first phase includes 54,000 of 108,000 affected vehicles. The company is also notifying owners of the issue, who will eventually get a second notification when parts are available so they can schedule a time to have the airbags replaced.
