I've owned this car proudly for 12-13 years after buying it from another long term owner. I believe the mileage to be completely accurate and this car looks to have been always garaged. Very very little rust and nothing that appears to be more than surface deep. Before I owned it, it had at least a partial repaint in the original color and mechanically was well kept. I drove this car reliably on the weekends for a couple years then took out the engine/trans to repair what I thought was a leaking rear main seal. It ended up being the oil pan gaskets which I replaced. The motor went back in with new mounts where needed and started right up. This car always ran rich which I attributed to carburetors sitting too long. Rather then rebuild the originals carbs, I opted to purchase an early set of triple SU carbs with the 3-piece manifold. I rebuilt all 3 and installed. The car started with no smoke but idling very high with seemingly no vacuum advance. Power brakes also stopped working at that time despite having a newer assist unit. I attribute all these symptoms to a severe vacuum leak caused by my amateur carb and manifold install. The air conditioning did not work so I removed everything to do with that under the hood but it is included. The car has great compression and all matching numbers body/frame/engine/trans. The tires are probably 20 years old. There are 2 dimples in the hood where some knucklehead tried to jack the car up by the radiator years ago. The are 2 dents in the rear that look to be caused by the over-riders during a collision. There is an area in back of the passenger side door that is wrinkled slightly from what looks to be poorly applied body filler from decades ago. All gages worked. The dome light did not work.

Included with the car are boxes of NEW parts including but not limited to: Front rotors, complete front end kit with neoprene bushings, an electronic ignition (crane), cooling fan motor (round) with adapter to fit square brackets, copper and hide hammer, spinner removal tool, clutch alignment tool, cam cover gasket set, plug wire shroud, hood latch, triple carb ram tubes and various gaskets.

Also included are the original carbs and manifold, the original fuel pump that was replaced years ago, a 4.2 litre 3-carb manifold, and an entire spare engine (stuck) from an early 70's XJ6 if you want it. Spare used headlights and anything that was removed from car such as original emisions crossover. Lots of paperwork and receipts.

I encourage anyone seriously interested to ask for any specific pictures they would like. I have tried to take pictures of the few bad areas of this car so there are no surprises after the sale. The car will be available for viewings by appointment and I encourage that. This color looks dull in the garage but pops outdoors in natural light. When I was driving this car, it did shimmy under heavy braking which is why I bought the new rotors that are included. The interior is mostly original and very showable if not show quality with some light cleaning.

This car was built in October of 1970, one of the very last true 2-seaters made by Jaguar.

Jaguar could replace two of its slow-selling sedans with a compact hatchback

Mon, Jun 22 2020

Jaguar needs a home run, and it might merge the slow-selling XE and XF into a single model in a swing for the fences. The company is considering several ways to replace its two smallest sedans, and one option on the table is filling the gaps they'll create with a compact hatchback that would take Jaguar into a segment it's never been in before. Nothing is official yet, and Jaguar still hasn't ruled out developing a direct successor to each model, but British magazine Autocar learned at least two other options are being evaluated. Julian Thomson, the company's design boss, suggested their spot might be filled by a city-friendly hatch that would stretch about 177 inches from bumper to bumper, a figure that would catapult it into a segment dominated by the Audi A3, the BMW 1 Series, and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It would lure a new set of customers into the company's global showrooms. "I'd love to do smaller cars, and it feels as though the time is right. Jaguar needs a global product that could appeal to younger buyers, and more females as well," Thomson the publication. Although that's simple on paper, it's a lot more difficult to achieve in real life. "It's a tough sector. You need big numbers, which means big factories, and a big organization to sell them. But that's definitely where I would like us to be." Jaguar would need to find a cost-effective way to build the model. Developing an architecture from scratch is one possibility, though it's an expensive one for a company whose financial foundations are shaky at best. It could use its new MLA platform if it's flexible enough to underpin a small car, or it could ask BMW — which it's linked to via several on-going partnerships — to use the front-wheel-drive UKL architecture found under the aforementioned 1. One point the original report doesn't address is that, while a hatchback in the vein of the A3 would do well in Europe, it would fall flat on its face in the United States. That's why Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz all added a trunk to their Euro-flavored hatches for American buyers who prefer three-box sedans. Jaguar would either need to do the same, meaning it would replace two sedans with a hatchback turned into a sedan, or it would end up giving up thousands of sales in one of the world's largest car markets, which would be counterintuitive. Another possibility floated by Autocar is replacing the XE (pictured) and the XF with a compact sedan described as eco-focused.

The Jaguar E-Type Lightweight is back on the prowl after a few decades away

Sun, 17 Aug 2014

Sometimes procrastination has its benefits. Jaguar originally planned to build a run of 18 E-Type Lightweights for racing in the '60s. However, it was only ever to complete 12 of them. It has taken all of the intervening decades to finally get back to the project and build the final run of new Lightweights. While Jag announced the plan recently, the first continuation model was unveiled during the Pebble Beach weekend.
Coming from Jaguar Land Rover's Special Operations unit, these cars are identical to the way they left the factory in the '60s. Jag is even using the same grade of aluminum for the bodies, and the cars are fully compliant for FIA historic racing. Power comes from an aluminum, 3.8-liter inline-six with about 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque routed through a four-speed manual gearbox. Who could guess that in 2014 someone could buy a brand new vehicle from a major manufacturer that comes with Weber carbs? Though, Lucas mechanical fuel injection is an option.
While they look old, these new E-types are also a wonder of modern technology. To get things just right, the company laser scanned an original car to create the new bodies. Check out the gallery from the unveiling to see this old cat on the prowl again.

Jaguar F-Type 'Design Study' headed to Goodwood

Mon, 08 Jul 2013

With the Goodwood Festival of Speed taking place this weekend, Jaguar has announced it will be there with its new trio of R models as well as a design study version of the hot new F-Type sports car. While we've already seen the XFR-S last year at the LA Auto Show and the XJR and XKR-S GT at the New York Auto Show, the F-Type design study has our attention.
Based on our recent sighting of a fixed-roof F-Type being tested in full camouflage, this could mean that we'll finally get to see a sexy F-Type Coupe in near-production form. Of course, with all of the other R branded models on display, Jaguar could also unveil a sporty new R - or maybe even an RS - F-Type roadster. Whatever is planned, it will not be a static display - Jaguar says the design study car will be in action, making the fabled run up Goodwood Hill with chief engineer Mike Cross at the wheel. Scroll down for more information about what Jaguar has planned for Goodwood.
