New Hyundai Veloster N sports a big wing under its camouflage

Hyundai is deep into development of the second-gen Veloster, the follow-up to the odd asymmetric hot hatch. The first car was good, but it wasn't quite great, missing the mark on a number of details. In the intervening years, Hyundai products have improved across the board and no longer require any hedging or justification as a value proposition. Hopefully the same is true with the new car. The spy photos we have hear appear to show the Veloster N, the high performance version of the hatch. N is Hyundai's new in-house tuner. The group is working on a more powerful version of the i30, known in the US as the Elantra GT. Despite the camouflage, we can see that the Veloster in these photos has a number of upgrades that give away the N tuning. This includes large wheels, big brakes with red calipers, big exhaust outlets, and what appears to be a large Civic Type R-style wing. There are few other details we can make out, but the most obvious and notable is the asymmetric door setup. The car will have two doors on the passenger side and just one on the driver's side, just like the first model. We don't know how much power the car will make, but expect somewhere close to 250 horsepower from a turbocharged four-cylinder. Look for a full reveal sometime in the next year. 2019 Hyundai Veloster N price starts at $27,785

Pricing for the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N has been announced, with an MSRP starting at $27,785, including destination. Opting for the N Performance package will add $2,100. Standard performance equipment for the base Veloster N includes the 250-horsepower turbocharged inline-4, a six-manual transmission with rev-match downshifting, five different drive mode settings, an electronically controlled suspension, ventilated brakes, 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires, six-way manually operated sport seats and an N-exclusive steering wheel. Other standard equipment includes LED headlights, proximity entry and push-button start, automatic climate control, two USB ports, Hyundai's 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and an eight-speaker Infinity audio system. The N Performance package ups engine output to 275 horsepower and adds an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, a variable exhaust, 19-inch wheels, Pirelli P Zero tires, and larger brakes. For comparison sake, the Volkswagen GTI starts around $28,500, the Honda Civic around $25,000 and the Ford Focus ST (may it soon rest in peace) around $26,000. So it's cheaper than those, but is it still a performance bargain? 2018 Hyundai Accent starts at under $16,000

Hyundai has finally announced pricing for its latest Accent subcompact. The cheapest base-level SE trim is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and starts at $15,880, and adding a 6-speed automatic bumps that price up $1,000. Moving up to the mid-level SEL will cost at least $18,180, and the top-trim Limited starts at $19,780. Both of these trims are only available with an automatic. All versions come with the same naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 130 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque. The SE trim comes reasonably well equipped for a budget subcompact including air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and Bluetooth. While one might expect those to be standard on every car now, that's not exactly the case. For example, the base level Kia Rio does not come with power windows, cruise control, or Bluetooth, though the Rio is also expected to cost a bit less than the Accent. Choosing SEL adds a number of more desirable features including four-wheel disc brakes, alloy wheels, a bigger touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic headlights, heated mirrors and a telescoping steering wheel. The Limited offers even more convenience features such as forward collision avoidance, LED lights, sunroof, bigger alloy wheels, keyless entry, heated seats and automatic climate control.
