The Tartan Prancer is a 21st Century Wagon Queen Family Truckster

Sun, Jul 26 2015

Have you heard of the Tartan Prancer? If you've been keeping up with the Vacation movie reboot, you have. The original flick from 1983 introduced us to the Wagon Queen Family Truckster, a George Barris-designed send-up of American motoring that almost immediately became a legend. For the Vacation reboot, the Prancer is the new Truckster, and it looks like underneath all that awfully wavy bodywork there was once a Toyota Previa minivan. Whereas the Truckster's unique feature set was mainly wood paneling and way too many headlights, the Prancer loads up on the kinds of features the 21st century buyer has to have, like a martini glass holder outside the vehicle, a gas tank, a diesel tank, and a plug to charge something, and four side mirrors. Inside, there's a drinking fountain. The video above is the Albanian spoof ad for the Prancer. It's in Albanian, but you don't need to speak that glorious language to understand the ad. It's a lot funnier than the actual movie clip showcasing the Prancer, which you'll find in the video directly below. The second video below is Edmunds' Carlos Lago doing a thorough comparo with the Tartan, the so-called "Honda of Albania," on one side and a real Honda Odyssey on the other. The movie comes out July 29 in the US. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. This content is hosted by a third party. McLaren pondering Honda-powered 911 killer?

Tue, 21 May 2013

As one of the premier sports cars in the world, the Porsche 911 is always driving around with a target on its rear-engined backside. If a new report is to be believed, the latest automaker with plans to build a 911-fighting sports coupe could be McLaren. Motor Trend is reporting that the recent news that Honda and McLaren are teaming up to build Formula One racecars could bear road-going fruit as well.
According to the article, the unnamed entry-level McLaren coupe may be powered by a Honda-sourced engine, but a detuned version of the 3.8-liter V8 from the MP4-12C is said to be more likely. All in, though, there is no solid information on the car just yet. As a reminder, M/T points out that the last time McLaren partnered up with a mainstream automaker, the world was introduced to the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

Honda CR-V spot delights with 'impossible' illusions

Thu, 24 Oct 2013

Mind-blowing car commercials that employ optical illusions and jaw-clenching stunts instead of computer animation are becoming the norm these days, and everybody from Volvo Trucks to Forza Motorsport 5/McLaren are regular contributors to the growing trend. Honda joins the crowd in its latest European commercial for the CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC Diesel, and uses well-placed props and well-drawn imagery to trick viewers into seeing the "impossible."
The old-fashioned optical illusion is alive and well in Honda's "An Impossible, Made Possible" spot, so go ahead and watch it and the making-of video below.
