Rare 1966 Ford Thunderbird Roadster Convertible on 2040-cars
Walnut Creek, California, United States

This is a beautiful 1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible with the very rare Roadster Package. Which includes the removeable fiberglass tonneau cover and the Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels (these are actual spokes not hubcaps). Overall, the car is in great shape, although it is not in showroom condition. I would call it an excellent "20' car". It appears to have had an older restoration sometime in her history, before I'd owned it. I tend to use it as my daily driver during the summer months, so it does have a few small scratches and minor paint chips. However, as you can see in the photos, nothing that stands out. You really have to look to find them. The paint still shines brightly. It should place well in local shows. It has a 390 V8. The odometer reads 114.5k. It runs very strong and cruises easily at 80mph on the highway. I live in a hot area in California and I drive the car in triple-digit temperature all the time. The engine still runs cool. The only modification I had done to the engine was to add Electronic Ignition to replace the points and condenser. It sits under the factory cap and retains its stock appearance. 1966 was the first year that Ford added Front Disc Brakes to the Thunderbird and the car stops great. The interior is in good condition. There are no rips or tears although the seat cushions are staring to feel their age and just dont have the same cushion as they used to but what can you expect from a car that is almost 50 years old. It has a power driver's seat and power door locks. It has manual windows and if you are familiar with Thunderbirds, you know that the power windows in these models were vacumn actuated so they had a lot of problems even when new. As such, I preferred the manual windows, and no doubt that they will work. Overall, the convertible top vinyl is in good condition, although not perfect. The up/down functions of the top work great, You can see a video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVqxxGSA9G4 NADA Guides place the value of the 1966 Thunderbird Convertible between $31k to $51k. This is for the regular convertible and does not take into account the Roadster Option. These optional parts are almost impossible to find anymore. The only reason I'm selling the car is because I am purchasing a home and need to raise capital. This car has been wonderful and attracts attention whenever and wherever I drive it. It starts every time and is a pleasure to drive. I sometimes pull off the tonneau cover and take it for family drives on the weekend. The kids love it! We'll all be very sorry to see it go. I will throw in a heavy duty, all-weather car cover for it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions on the car. Terms of the sale require a $2,000 deposit due in 24 hours and the balance due in 7-days. Shipping and transportation are the responsibility of the buyer, although I will work with your shipper to get the car to you as soon as possible. The car is being advertised locally and is subject to prior sale. As such, seller reserves the right to end auction at any time. |

Chinese market Ford Taurus will be unveiled at Shanghai Motor Show
Fri, Apr 10 2015A new Ford Taurus is on the way, at least for some markets. As part of a huge unveiling of seven models for the Asia Pacific market at the Shanghai Motor Show, Ford is announcing the debut of the company's next-gen large sedan on April 18 just before the event in China begins. Unfortunately, the Taurus that we see in Shanghai might not signal too much about the future version in the US. Ford spokesperson Monique Brentley tells Autoblog that this debut is specifically for the Chinese market, and the Blue Oval isn't saying whether any of this updated look will come across the Pacific. We got a tiny preview of the new Taurus earlier this year when one was spotted wearing heavy camouflage while testing in China. That one retained the sedan's hexagonal grille but added more horizontal chrome slats. It also featured reshaped headlights and a broad, lower air dam. Previous reports have indicated the next-gen model might be built around a stretched and widened version of the Fusion platform, and a major goal during development was shedding as many pounds as possible. With little time before the official unveiling, it won't be long until we'll know much of this for sure. NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022
Thu, Mar 17 2016The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
Ford family keeps special voting rights
Fri, 10 May 2013Ford Motor Company has a dual-class stock structure of Class A and Class B shares. The roughly three billion Class A shares are for the general public like you and me, while the roughly 71 million Class B shares are all owned by the Ford family. Each Class A share gets the shareholder one vote, each Class B share is worth 16 votes, the result being that Common Stock holders control about 60 percent of the company while the Ford family controls 40 percent even though it holds far fewer shares. The only way that could ever change would be if the Fords sell their Class B shares, but even so, Class B shares revert to Class A when sold outside the family, so they'd have to sell a whole bunch of them.
A contingent of Class A shareholders think the dual-class system is unfair, and for the past few years a vote's been held during the annual shareholders meeting to end it. It has failed every time, as it just did again during the meeting held this week. A smidge over 33 percent voted to end the dual system, outvoted by the 67 percent who are happy with the way Ford is going - unsurprising in view of a corporate turnaround that will be part of business-class curricula for years to come.
On the sidelines, Ford elected Ellen R. Marram to the post of independent director, the first woman to hold the job. The former Tropicana CEO and 20-year Ford board member replaces retiring board member Irvine Hockaday who helped bring Alan Mulally to the CEO position.
