Model Year History Overview:
The big four seater “Square Bird” as it is called was first introduced in 1958. It was a dramatic design with unibody construction, all coil suspension, and rakish lowness. Crisp new styling popularized the square-cut “formal” hardtop roofline. The 113-inch wheelbase was compact, yet provided ample interior room for four. Both hardtop and convertible models were offered. With two models and room for four, it was a solid success. Almost twice as many found buyers as any of the previous two-seaters. The ‘59s changed only in detail: a horizontal grille instead of honeycomb, air scoop, taillight panels among other small items. Owing to production over a full year, the ’59 bested the ’58 in sales.

1959 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. It's finished in red with red with white piping and stitching and a white power convertible top. It is equipped with a 352 v-8, Cruse-o-matic transmission, magicaire heater, console radio, windshield washers, back up lights, dual outside mirrors with driver remote, power steering, brakes and undercoating. This car is rust and filler free and has had only one repaint since new. The convertible power top is like new and work perfectly. The chrome and stainless are original and very nice. It might not be called the GT or even use the coupe's retro look, but rumors point to such a beast being on the way. If the future halo model can inspire as much adoration among fans as the previous ones, then the Blue Oval is sure to have another winner on its hands. To get idea just how closely GT owners are bonded to their cars, take a ride with the participants in the ninth Ford GT National Rally in this short documentary titled Dust Devils. The owners convened with over 80 of the retro supercars in Las Vegas, NV, to admire the coupes and give them a workout on the desert roads. It's especially nice to see the drivers of these limited production Fords unafraid to take their cars to the track and stretch their legs a little.
