1957 Ford Thunderbird Bill Frick Conversion Documented 1 Owner Low Miles!!! on 2040-cars
Manchester, New Hampshire, United States
Who was Bill Frick? Bill Frick was a gifted early model mechanic and fabricator many years before the term "Hot Rodders" was used. Well known in the late 40s by his custom engine conversion packages out of a little shop in Long Island NY. This very unique and rare example of one of Bill Frick's conversions (according to our research) that there were only 3 Thunderbirds built by Bill Frick Motors, however, only one with the Pontiac 389 engine. When the car was purchased new in Lowell MA, the owner of the car was a big time drag racer. He wanted to build a car that would blow the doors off anyone who would come against him. he sent the car to Bill Frick in Rockville Centre NY for a performance upgrade engine swap. They used a modified 1959 Pontiac engine, completely balanced, forge true pistons, PC rings, Clevite bearings, full floating wrist pins, high pressure oil pump, relieve combustion chamber, ground out ports, adjustable rocker arm studs, Howard cam and lifters, special log-type intake manifold and 6 Rochester carb, lighten and polished valves. Spaulding special flywheel and clutch, a special dual McCulloch blower set up was installed and a special panel for blower solenoids, fuel pump and over drive was installed under the dash inside the car. A Stewart Warner tach and manual spark control was also installed in the car. Many modifications to the motor, clutch linkage, throttle linkage, a custom engine to trans, adapter plate was made, fabrication of special headers with Lake pipes and plugs installed For non-slip differential gears, removed and replaced gas tank modified for special fuel system. Special under ride dual traction bars and lowering the back end to raise the front end. The Paxton McCulloch system was aborted and sent back to Paxton and the car ended up with dual 4s Offenhauser alum intake and 2 Carter 4 barrel carbs. They gave $500 credit to the 312 V8. Some modifications had to be done to the hood of the car to make provisions for the dual supercharger system. 3 bulge style tear drops were dollied by hand and refinished in black lacquer. The interior of the car is all orig. including the carpet. Blk/wht/ bench seat has some dried cracks on the drivers side. Door panels, dash board, instrument cluster is all in great shape, no cracks in the orig. dash. Custom Hurst shifter with Borg Warner 3 spd. gear box with OD works fine. Vintage Stewart Warner and McCulloch vacuum gauges and switches installed. Town& Country am radio, no PS, power brakes, crank windows, telescopic steering wheel, no cracks noticed in the orig. steering wheel. This unique single family owned thunderbird is straight from an estate, stored since 1999 in dry storage, the car is in running condition, however it hasn't been driven for the past 15 yrs. We clay barred the exterior and it came back beautifully but we think it's best to preserve the originality of this car as a true time capsule without changing too much. Comes with documentation, thousands of $$ in receipts, Owner History and many great stories. Surely, one of a kind and modified from a famous legend (Bill Frick) who was well ahead of his time. The only one know to exist with Pontiac engine...own a piece of race history! Contact Roland for more info: 603-361-3693. Recharge Wrap-up: Daimler spending big for fuel cells, Ford Go!Drive experiment advances
Fri, Mar 20 2015Ford's Go!Drive experiment is entering its beta phase in London. The project, which is one of the automaker's global smart mobility experiments, uses a mobile app for on-demand carsharing of Ford Focus Electric and Ford Fiesta vehicles. The beta phase involves increasing the number of available vehicles from 20 to 50, and collecting new data from users. The program offers one-way rentals and guaranteed parking, with no membership fees and a cost of 26 cents per minute. Ford hopes to get 2,000 drivers involved in the program. Read more at Green Car Congress. Daimler will invest billions of dollars to upgrade the Mercedes-Benz Unterturkheim plant over the next few years. This year alone, it plans to spend $1.06 billion. The company expects cost savings "in the range of hundreds of millions of euros until 2020," while maintaining its workforce of 18,700 employees and adding 150 vocational training positions. The upgrades will allow the plant to become a center for building more efficient engines, hybrid powertrains and fuel cell systems. "Alternative drive systems are an important element of our future mobility," says Mercedes-Benz's Markus Schafer. "Their share of automotive production is set to steadily rise over the next few years, complementing our highly efficient engines within the portfolio. This is what we have laid the groundwork for today." Read more at Reuters, or in the press release below. The Department of Energy is providing $20 million in funding for the development of more efficient high speed industrial motors and drives. Ditching old motors and gearboxes for ones that use integrated power electronics could help decrease the energy consumption of the industrial sector, which currently uses more than 25 percent of the electricity generated in the US. The projects being funded will reduce losses and decrease the size of drive systems used in industries like petroleum refining and natural gas, which could affect the lifecycle efficiency of transportation fuels. Ford F-150 pulls semi truck through snow-clogged Chicago streets
Wed, Feb 4 2015Earlier this week, the Midwest was crippled by a massive snowstorm that dumped a foot or more of powder in some areas. The result was, of course, transportation gridlock. It's a fortunate thing for this stranded semi-truck driver, then, that a Ford F-150 EcoBoost stumbled upon him. Despite a tow rating of just over 11,000 pounds, the four-wheel-drive, turbocharged pickup managed to dislodge the big rig from a snow-covered street. Of course, the Ford didn't get the semi moving all on its own – watch the video towards the end and the semi was quite clearly spinning its rear tires. Still, it's an impressive feat that we've little doubt F-Series fans are celebrating. Related video:
Mustang retakes monthly pony car sales crown from Camaro
Wed, Dec 3 2014Going back to their origins in the Swinging '60s, the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro have been fierce rivals for fans' hearts and dollars. Historically, the Ford often led in volume, but Chevy took the muscle car top spot in 2009 upon the Camaro's rebirth. However, with the launch of the latest Blue Oval pony car, the tide is turning back in Ford's favor. November was the first full month of sales for the new 2015 Mustang, and according to TheDetroitBureau.com, the model did spectacularly well. The Blue Oval shifted 8,728 of them, up 62 percent from same month last year, with the automaker proclaiming it the model's best November sales since 2006. Conversely, 4,385 units of the Camaro were delivered, down 13.5 percent year-over-year, meaning its sales were roughly half that of the new-generation Mustang. Ford is understandably happy with the results, and product development director Raj Nair even hinted to TDB that another version of the Mustang might be unveiled at January's North American International Auto Show. Rumor has it that the model will be the even more potent Shelby Mustang GT350R. Despite the Mustang's November success, the Camaro outsells it year to day. So far in 2014, Ford has sold 73,124 Mustangs versus 79,669 examples of the Camaro. With December offering the last chance for an overtake, the Bowtie may yet remain king for this year's sales crown. A new Camaro is peeking over the horizon, as well. It's reportedly moving to the Alpha platform used by the Cadillac ATS, and production could start in late 2015. Prototypes are already testing at the Nurburgring, and camouflaged examples have been spotted weirdly being compared to its '80s forefather.
