For Sale 1949 Ford F3 w/ Dump Bed I’ve got a 1949 Ford
F3 pickup with a dump run by the PTO (has factory style bed). The truck is from
North Dakota and is 99% rust free. Everything is SOLID, literally. Has
somewhere around 46k original miles and has the factory straight 6 with a 4
speed manual trans (with PTO) and original rear axle. This truck is all
original and not hacked up or toyed with. I’ve done a TON of work to the truck
so I’ll try to list everything as accurate as possible. Driveline 1. New plugs, wires, coil, cap, and rotor 2. Radiator has been re-cored (original),
engine block has been flushed, thermostat changed, new water pump gasket, new
heater hoses, all new clamps, new coolant, new drive belt. Fan, Shroud, and
Radiator have been refinished satin black. 3. Carb has been rebuild, brand new fuel pump,
oil bath air cleaner cleaned and oil replaced. 4. Engine Oil and Filter Change. 5. New muffler, tail pipe and hanger 6. New battery tray, new battery, all new
battery cables (battery, solenoid, starter), new starter solenoid and wiring
for starting system. 7. Fuel tank, sending unit, and fuel lines are
all new. Brakes 1. All 4 drums resurfaced, painted inside and
out 2. All Brake shoes have been relined, painted,
all backing plates have been cleaned and painted, 3. New wheel cylinders on all 4 corners, also
painted 4. All new brake hoses and new lines (where
needed) 5. Rebuild Master cylinder and brake light
switch 6. Switched to DOT 5 brake fluid-does not hold
moisture or remove paint when spilt. 7. New brake master cover (goes in floor) 8. New front wheel studs and lug nuts 9. New steering joint repair kits installed Electrical 1. I have virtually rewired most of the
lighting system, all light work as designed. 2. Have added a Directional system which is
period correct and does have period correct lights. Everything works. 3. Starter system rewired as previously
mentioned. 4. All wires have been taped at openings,
needed connectors replaced, all wires are in loom and organized properly so
it’s not a rats nest fire hazard. I do have a direct battery disconnect for
safety. Otherwise remaining original wires are in good shape. 5. Original 6 volt system, Instruments work.
Interior 1. Seat has been redone, Black with yellow
piping, super sharp. 2. Vinyl period correct floor mat, metal floor
has been painted black, no holes, all original. 3. Correct “Ford” dash pieces installed, new
glove box liner installed 4. New heater hoses and defroster hoses
installed, heater and defrost works. Various things 1. Yellow and black paint 2. New Oak Wood in the bed with 6 super hold
downs in the floor, very nice finish. 3. Original tailgate in amazing shape 4. All windows and vents work 5. Top speed about 50, speedometer cable
replaced, must not be all the way in the trans, works when it wants too 6. Red wheels, brushed rust-oleum, looks
pretty sharp. 7. Could use rear tires, pretty serious
cracks, only drive it around town and to local shows, not worried. 8. Dump bed works mint, pto cable broke
(normal throttle cable style) so I crawl under the truck to engage it. Simple 9. Drives, steers, and brakes solid, really
fun to drive, turns tons of heads. 10. Trans is a non syncro, some tricky driving
skill required. 11. Starting button does not work; I start the
truck by pushing the test button on the solenoid. Will need a new button. 12. Front two wheels are tubeless 16” wheels
from a ford F2, refinished with radial tires (50% tread life). Included are two
more tubeless wheels that need refinishing, and two matching tires. Other Parts Included: 1. Dana 60 rear axle (3.73) from a 1972 f250
in great shape. This is a common swap for better gear ratio. 2. A spare driveshaft, needs to be shortened
if installing the D60 rear. 3. Full length running boards. In decent shape
if you’d like to install them on this truck. 4. Rear shock mounts, these were optional in
49. 5. Complete interior “headliner” kit; interior
dress up kit. New in box never opened. Black. 6. Two tubeless wheels with tires (as mentioned above)
**Details** I can assist loading

Here's what it's like to drive the very first Ford Mustang cop car
Thu, Jan 29 2015As we recently discovered, there's something different about driving a police car. That's true whether you're talking about a modern Dodge Charger Pursuit or, yes, the legendary Ford Mustang SSP. Former Autoblog staffer and current Road and Track web editor Zach Bowman discovered this when he shanghaied a 2015 Mustang GT and made the trip to Nashville, TN to drive the very first Mustang SSP police car. The two-tone, V8-powered prototype was delivered into the welcoming arms of the California Highway Patrol back in 1981 for evaluation. Bowman chatted up cop-car aficionado Mike Strinich, the prototype's current owner, and managed to score some seat time in the car, which provided a unique interesting contrast to the SSP's 435-horsepower junior. Head over to R&T for the complete read.
Recharge Wrap-up: Ford steals Best Green Brand spot from Toyota, EV buyer survey goes online
Wed, Jun 25 2014Chevrolet is one of the Top Global Green Brands of 2014, according to brand consultancy firm Interbrand. Chevy ranks number 32 on the list, which cover brands across a wide variety of segments. The report measures brand perception and brand performance, and the gap between the two is small for Chevrolet. "The company is not only actively demonstrating its environmental commitment," says Interbrand CEO Jez Frampton. "It's communicating those efforts in an authentic way that resonates with customers." Chevrolet cites its Spark EV, Volt and Cruze models as reason for its green cred. This is the first time Toyota didn't take the top spot. Being 32nd is good and all, but other automotive brands ranked much higher than the Bowtie. Ford, Toyota, Honda and Nissan took the top four spots in the report, respectively, with BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz all besting Chevrolet. The big takeaway here is that Ford topped the list. In the Top Global Green Brand list's four-year history, this is the first time Toyota didn't take the top spot. Ford was second on the list last year, and 15th in 2012. "Ford embodies everything the business of the future must be: efficient, visionary, flexible, adept at problem-solving, cooperative, and focused on creating shared value," Interbrand says on its website. "From unveiling a first-of-its-kind solar-powered vehicle, the C-MAX Solar Energi Concept, to partnering with peers across sectors to do the seemingly impossible - like creating bio-plastic out of tomato fiber with Heinz-Ford is showing us what's possible." It bears mentioning that Ford's most recent MPG adjustments came after the study was conducted. Ford is also making the news for its 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine earning International Engine of the Year for the third straight year. Awarded Best Engine Under 1.0 Liter, the turbocharged three-cylinder motor earned high praise from judges. "This year's competition was the fiercest yet, but the 1.0-liter EcoBoost continues to stand out for all the right reasons – great refinement, surprising flexibility and excellent efficiency," said International Engine of the Year co-chairman Dean Slavnich. "The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is one of the finest examples of powertrain engineering." The 123-horsepower engine powers the Fiesta 1.0-liter EcoBoost, and will be available in a version of the Ford Focus in the US later this year. See more about the award in the press release, below.
Recharge Wrap-up: Ford 1.0L EcoBoost a hit in Europe; Build a tiny inverter, win $1 million
Mon, Aug 11 2014In Europe, Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is the best-selling turbocharged gasoline engine. The three-cylinder motor powers 20 percent of new Fords sold in Europe. Earlier this year, it won its third International Engine of the Year award, and between January and June, it was sold in about 120,000 cars. So far this year, 38 percent of Fords sold in the Netherlands, 35 percent in Denmark and 32 percent in Switzerland have been powered by the 1.0-liter EcoBoost. The engine's turbocharger spins at 248,000 rpm, and provides 24 psi of pressure. The engine produces up to 138 horsepower, depending on the version. Read more in the press release below. When lithium-ion battery packs are retired from the road, remanufacturing, repurposing, and recycling are worthwhile options, according to a study by Mineta Transportation Institute. The study included a cost-benefit analysis of those three options, and found remanufacturing to be the best route. To get the most out of them, batteries should be tested and have their damaged cells replaced then put back to use. Repurposing is the second best option, using the remaining available charge for something besides cars. Recycling on its own isn't profitable, but it could make economic sense with "increased technological breakthroughs." Learn more at Recycling International or download the report here. A smaller inverter for EVs can win you $1 million. The Little Box Challenge is an open competition to build a power inverter with a density of at least 50 watts per cubic inch. Google and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are offering the hefty prize to the team that builds the inverter with the highest power density within an enclosed volume of 40 cubic inches. Teams must register by September 30. Read more at Green Car Congress or learn more at the Little Box Challenge website.
