Ford: Mustang Gt on 2040-cars
Capitol Heights, Maryland, United States
For Sale 1965 Ford Mustang GT (authentic A code) – This car was built to be the “real deal”. It is a semi-modernized 65 Mustang that has the original muscle car ambiance of sound and looks (but safer and more reliable). Please thoroughly review the pictures and description as this car has had numerous updates and modifications and I want you to understand exactly what this car entails. It was built with the goal of reliability and the ability to safely cruise down a highway at 65mph in mind. This is a very nice “A” code GT that has been slowly put together. It is in great shape, but does need a few items to finish this project. 1. The factory hood was not flat so I found another original factory hood (but it still needs prepped/painted) (hood shown in first pic is no longer available). 2. The proportional valve needs adjusted as it is applying too much force to the rear brakes (didn’t adjust after changing to dual bowl master cylinder) 3. Has a vibration at ~40 mph from either a tire or driveshaft not properly balanced 4. Fuel line recently clogged so it needs replaced (I have a braided line kit with fittings) – I would suggest replacing fuel tank or having it flushed (all gas is currently drained from it) 5. Needs carb properly tuned (has a brand new Holley 600 with electric choke that needs adjusted) 6. AC compressor currently not bolted on the car (but I have it) 7. Center console not screwed down (has a crack so I was looking for a replacement) 8. Rear interior panels has speakers holes drilled into them 9. Have newHawk racing brake pads that needs installed This is an opportunity for you to purchase a very nice 65 Mustang original A code for much less than what it is worth. This is a very nice 50 year old car that is begging to be finished and enjoyed by the right owner. I simply do not have the time to appreciate this car as much as it deserves. Car being sold “As is” with no warranties. Ford bringing production F-150 to Detroit with Atlas styling and Alcoa blast shields
Fri, 27 Dec 2013According to a report in Bloomberg, the 2015 Ford F-150 will indeed be showing up at the Detroit Auto Show next month. It will bring attitude with it, not only in the form of sheetmetal inspired by the Atlas concept (pictured) that appeared at the 2013 Detroit show but also in the Alcoa military blast shields among the display being used to showcase the ruggedness of aluminum.
There's been a lot of talk about the F-150 switching to aluminum body panels (although maintaining a steel frame), and for good reason. The lightweight body is expected to shed more than 700 pounds and greatly increase its highway mileage, but production-line issues and possible delays have been a major focus of attention concerning the best-selling vehicle in America for 32 years, meaning Ford has to get it right. F-150 is responsible for a massive portion of the company's global profits and it will come in a year when company profits are already predicted to decline because of new car launches.
When it comes to dings, the Bloomberg story says Ford wants Alcoa to supply some of the military-grade aluminum it uses for blast shields on battlefield vehicles to help it talk up the toughness of aluminum. Reading commentary on the many stories about the F-150 reveals there are many more little questions about the aluminum overhaul, like "How much will it cost to repair and insure?" and "How will companies hang their magnetic signs?" Answers should start coming in a couple of weeks.
What's in a trademark? Sometimes, the next iconic car name
Thu, 07 Aug 2014
The United States Patent and Trademark Office is a treasure trove for auto enthusiasts, especially those who double as conspiracy theorists.
Why has Toyota applied to trademark "Supra," the name of one of its legendary sports cars, even though it hasn't sold one in the United States in 16 years? Why would General Motors continue to register "Chevelle" long after one of the most famous American muscle cars hit the end of the road? And what could Chrysler possibly do with the rights to "313," the area code for Detroit?
Detroit 3 and UAW set for showdown over tiered wages
Mon, Mar 23 2015This week, thousands of United Auto Workers will converge on Cobo Center in Detroit for the Special Convention on Collective Bargaining, an every-four-year event that lets members tell UAW leaders what the negotiating priorities should be during contract negotiations. This is where a lot of sand and a lot of lines start coming together in preparation for contract negotiations between the UAW and the Detroit 3 automakers, which will happen later this year. Number one on the UAW agenda is the end of the two-tier wage system created in 2007 to help the automakers get through bankruptcy; veteran workers are paid the Tier 1 rate of around $29.00 per hour, new hires are paid the Tier 2 rate of between $15 and $20 and get about half the benefits of Tier 1. Tier 2 hiring has been an undoubted success for the automakers, allowing them to keep factories in the US and hire more workers. By agreement, it is capped at a certain percentage of each automaker's workforce, and while the union's ultimate position is to get rid of the dual-scale system entirely; one leader said Ford could easily afford the $335 million it would take to convert all its workers to Tier 1 out of its $6.9 billion in 2014 North American profit, and General Motors could do the same out of the $5 billion it is handing to investors through the (admittedly forced) share buyback. Other delegates say that at the very least they'd be happy with enforcement of the current caps in the new contract. The automakers, conversely, would welcome expansion of the Tier 2 ranks. Including benefits, import automakers pay workers "in the high $40 range" per hour, according to an analyst, while Ford and GM pay about $59 in wages and benefits per hour. More Tier 2 workers on the rolls would let those two companies get labor cost parity with the competition. Fiat-Chrysler pays wages closer to the imports because of special exceptions in its UAW contract that allow unlimited Tier 2 hiring; those exceptions will end on September 14 and bring FCA into line with the other domestics, unless the new contract maintains them. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne is opposed to the two-tier system, having called it "almost offensive." One analyst says the UAW might win a sizable pay raise for Tier 2 and a small increase for Tier 1, but the keystone issue will be how the hiring matrix can help the automakers keep overall wages in line with the imports.
