I purchased this car new in December 2010 from Ourisman Ford in Alexandria, Virginia. I lived in Pennsylvania at the time, so it was originally titled in Pennsylvania. When I moved to Michigan last year, I got a clean Michigan title. It has been a good car for me, but I want to get something a little more practical.

Here are the obvious features of the car:

  • 412 horsepower 5.0 L V8 engine
  • 6-speed manual transmission
  • Factory 3.31 gear.
  • Black leather seats (not heated)
  • SYNC voice control for radio and phone
  • 18-inch painted aluminum wheels
  • Shaker 500 radio with USB and Bluetooth
  • SIRIUS satellite radio
  • Power locks with remote entry (two keys/fobs)
  • Power mirrors and windows
  • Power driver’s seat and manual passenger’s seat

And, some information about this particular car:

  • The car has 32,864.3 miles on it (July 13th).
  • I am the original and only owner.
  • I am a non-smoker, and none of my passengers ever smoked in the car.
  • I do not have any pets, so no animals were ever in the car.
  • I was 44 when I bought this car, and I am 47 now.
  • I didn’t drive it hard very often. (I can’t say never.)
  • I haven’t received any speeding tickets with it.
  • The battery is the factory original. It might need service soon.
  • The brakes are factory original. They might need service soon.
  • There is a full-size spare tire and jack in the trunk. I never used them.
  • It was never in any accidents. And, it was never towed.
  • I haven’t monkeyed with the car at all. I never put a tune on it or even a CAI system.
  • I purchased a new set of tires from Belle Tire back in October 2013 when the car had 26,350 miles on it. So, the tires are nine months old with 6,500 miles on them. They are the same tires that the factory installed: Pirelli P Zero Nero. I had them rotated/balanced a few weeks ago.
  • I just had the oil changed at the local Ford dealership on July 11th. I can show you the receipt.

No used car is perfect. Here are the negatives:

  • I drove the car through the winters, but it spent the evenings in a heated garage 50% of the time.
  • There is a door ding on the passenger door. That happened in early 2011… right after I bought the car. I don’t know how it happened… a runaway grocery cart or a careless person opening their car door perhaps. It is a pretty deep ding. The Ford dealer estimates $400 to repair it. It never developed any rust, so I did not have the work done.
  • The radio control buttons on the steering wheel are worn. They still function fine, but the paint has chipped off the surface of the buttons a little.
  • The chrome pony on the steering wheel has a scratch. I don’t know how that happened… maybe from keys.
  • The front fascia has two holes from the license plate frame that originally came on the vehicle. (Virginia is a two-plate state.) I removed the frame, but the holes are permanent. On a black car, they aren’t as noticeable, but they are there. About 1/8 inch diameter each. www.bumperplugs.com sells some over-priced plugs for just this reason.
  • The driver’s floor mat is really worn; you will want to replace it. The passenger floor mat is in good shape, but the factory mats are extremely cheap.
  • There are no rear floor mats since it did not come with any from the factory. I can count on one hand the number of times somebody sat in the rear seat of the car, so the carpeting is fine back there.
  • The only problem the car has ever had was a stuck HVAC vent door. It started about six months ago, and I had it repaired at a local Ford dealership last month.
  • I never waxed the car, so the paint could use some TLC.

The terms of the sale are:

  • A $100 deposit will be required through PayPal within three days of the end of the auction.
  • I will meet you at a local bank to confirm the funds are present for a cashier’s check just prior to transferring the title at the Secretary of State’s office.
  • I want to do whatever is necessary to make the transaction safe for myself as well as the buyer. I am in no rush to sell the car. I think it is a good car, but I cannot take any chances with the money/vehicle transfer.

I will give the buyer the original window sticker, manual, quick reference guide, the SYNC manual and a full tank of premium Mobil gas.

Ex-GM VP LaNeve takes over Lincoln ad agency

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Those of you that caught yesterday's op-ed about Lincoln will have heard already, but Mark LaNeve has taken the helm at Team Detroit. Once the North American vice president of sales, service and marketing for General Motors, LaNeve will now head up the agency that handles all of Ford advertising. LaNeve will also run the account for Lincoln. While at GM from 2001 to 2009, the exec oversaw ad campaigns like Cadillac's Breakthrough and sales initiatives like "Employee Pricing for Everyone."
He left in 2009 to join Allstate as chief marketing officer, oversaw the creation of the Mayhem ad spots and was moved into the role of VP of agency operations overseeing Allstate's 10,000 agents. He resigned from the insurer in February 2012 for personal reasons and joined Team Detroit in August 2012 as chief operating officer, in charge of satellite offices in New York and internationally. He replaces ex-CEO Cameron McNaughton, and will continue to hold the title of COO.
Lincoln is trying to get its 2013 back to rights after putting big dollar commercials for the 2013 MKZ on television then having production glitches preventing cars from getting to dealerships. With rumors of a relaunch in the works, it's no surprise LaNeve has been given the reins - and from here it looks like the brand is desperate for the kind of magic he's proved he can marshal. Perhaps he can start by calling a mulligan on the renaming exercise that gave us the hoary "Lincoln Motor Company" and go back to oh, say, "Lincoln." Then he can ask the product folks to get to work on the MKC concept...

Even Ford executives had issues with MyFord Touch

Fri, Oct 7 2016

MyFord Touch is one of the auto industry's more controversial features. The media broadly panned the infotainment system developed with Microsoft for its slow responses and reliance on voice commands to navigate its deep menus. Oh, and Ford executives weren't big fans, either. Newly revealed court documents in a California class-action lawsuit demonstrate the level of venom Ford employees, both big and small, reserved for the Blue Oval's infotainment system. An error caused Bill Ford's navigation system to crash, leaving the family scion stuck on the side of the road in an unfamiliar area. The documents, unearthed by Forbes, detail current CEO Mark Fields' aggravations with MFT, too. A mechanic emailed an image of a cracked infotainment screen on an Edge to one of Ford's top Sync engineers, Kenneth Williams, suggesting "Mark Fields may have been a little aggravated with the system." But Ford and Fields' issues are nothing compared to the woes of the engineers that had to work on MFT. In a collection of emails obtained by Forbes, one engineer called the system "a polished turd," while another simply said, "These poor customers." And after one engineer suggested using a photo of Ford's Oakville Assembly Plant – home of the Edge, Flex, Lincoln MKX, and MKT production – as a background for the system, one of his coworkers said in an email that someone should instead Photoshop the image to read "abandon hope all ye who enter here," the Detroit News reports. Another summed up the problem, saying: "Ford's quality reputation is completely on the line ... another model year with the same crap is not acceptable." MyFord Touch almost single-handedly torpedoed Ford's reputation in widely reported quality metrics, including JD Power and Consumer Reports. Ford responded with a refreshed Sync3, a wildly improved rethink of its infotainment system that is far more responsive and easier to live with every day.
