For Sale: 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 SES, Duratec (Mazda designed) 2.0L, 5 sp manual, all available factory options (inc Sony audiophile sound, power sunroof) except anti-lock brakes, 97,xxx almost all highway miles (60 miles/day on I-94 as a daily driver). Parked every winter, cleanest used car you will ever see, people still think it's new. 50 year old original owner, non-smoker.

Engine: Marcy cold air intake, Crane Stg 1 (mild) cams, Focus Sport 89 and 91 octane tunes + stock (comes with SCT tuner to change), Borla cat-back exhaust, F2 Header w/ high flow metal matrix catalytic converter and secondary Borla baffle (sounds good NOT loud). Valves adjusted when cams installed and were re-checked last year, new plugs. This engine does not need any more maintenance than an otherwise stock engine, nor is the durability any less. I've been working on motors my whole life (used to build and race motorcycles) so I know what I'm doing, plus I'm super anal retentive about maintenance so oil changed every 3-4K with Mobil 1 synthetic oil since new.

Exterior: Full SVT suspension kit (all new Ford parts), 7x17" Ford racing rally wheels w/ Coni ExtremeContact DW tires (tread depth 7/32", new is 10/32"), crossbar thing across front struts, factory painted S1 rear spoiler, hawk front brake pads with new rotors installed last year.

Interior: Red/Black neoprene front seat covers, billet alum pedals and control knobs, ST leather shifter, black leather shift and e-brake boots w/ red stitching.

VERY clean car, has the usual rock chips in hood and a few repaired chips in windshield from those damn gravel trucks. One small quarter sized dent of top of right front fender from a cooler that fell off a shelf. The seat covers are faded on sides but still in good condition (the seats underneath are perfect), and the floor mat has a small worn heal spot. That's about it, everything else is perfect. Needs nothing, drives very tight, everything works like new, no rattles, squeaks, stains, etc. Service manual and all notes included. Stock parts are also available inc 16" wheels with useable tires (included with buy it now price only). This car is a lot of fun to drive and out runs SVTs. Clean title.

KBB/NADA retail is $6200 and I have ~ $4K in mods. Local pickup only. Happy bidding.

Watch this Ford F-150 SVT Raptor fly like an eagle [UPDATE]

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is a very capable truck right out of the box, but "capable" has never translated into "invincible." Just ask the owner of the machine in this video. In it, the driver gets frisky with an aggressive jump with plenty of speed on his hands. The result is enough air to make Vaughn Gittin Jr. blush. As always, it's not the launch that's painful, but the re-entry. Gravity eventually asserts its dominance over the $43,630 pickup in a big way, and when it comes crashing down, it does so with a vengeance.
The impact was hard enough to set off both the alarm and multiple airbags inside the cabin. It's unclear if anyone was injured in the stunt, but we certainly wouldn't be surprised to hear that was the case. You can check out the stunt in the video below, and remember, when in doubt, back out of the throttle. Be warned, there may be some explicit/NSFW language in the clip.
UPDATE: Second video added with an even better look at the jump added below.

2015 Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival

Thu, Aug 13 2015

Considered the big kick off of the major festivities surrounding Monterey Car Week, this year's Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival certainly didn't disappoint. For those unable to make it to the California coast, our own Drew Phillips was on hand to snap some of the beautiful vehicles on display for this gorgeous gallery. Held annually at the Monterey Jet Center, the event is always a feast for the eyes by collecting planes, a gang of exotic supercars, and some the top cars crossing the auction block over the coming days, like a Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda convertible. The Ford GT both new and old was a major attendee at this year's party. Among them, the Petersen Museum brought along an original racecar and a GT40 MKIII to promote an upcoming exhibit. The classics were complimented by the latest version that has continued to keep tongues wagging. The GT wasn't the only classic with a modern update there. Singer used the posh event for the North American debut of its stunning restoration of the Porsche 911 Targa. Shelby American was also at the revival for the public unveiling of the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe. On the more modern front, Honda was in attendance with the future NSX and one of the McLaren F1 cars that the company's engine powers. For further proof of the ritzy folks that attend this soiree, Pagani and Koenigsegg both had stands to show off their extremely quick wares.

8 automakers, 15 utilities collaborate on open smart-charging for EVs

Thu, Jul 31 2014

We're going to lead with General Motors here. GM is one of eight automakers working with 15 utilities and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) at developing a "smart" plug-in vehicle charging system. Why did we start with GM? Because it's the first automaker whose press release we read that mentioned the other seven automakers. Points for sharing. For the record, the collaboration also includes BMW, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Ford. The utilities include DTE Energy, Duke Energy, Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric. The idea is to develop a so-called "demand charging" system in which an integrated system lets the plug-ins and utilities communicate with each other so that vehicle charging is cut back at peak hours, when energy is most expensive, and ramped up when the rates drop. Such entities say there's a sense of urgency to develop such a system because the number of plug-in vehicles on US roads totals more than 225,000 today and is climbing steadily. There's a lot of technology involved, obviously, but the goal is to have an open platform that's compatible with virtually any automaker's plug-in vehicle. No timeframe was disclosed for when such a system could go live but you can find a press release from EPRI below. EPRI, Utilities, Auto Manufacturers to Create an Open Grid Integration Platform for Plug-in Electric Vehicles PALO ALTO, Calif. (July 29, 2014) – The Electric Power Research Institute, 8 automakers and 15 utilities are working to develop and demonstrate an open platform that would integrate plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) with smart grid technologies enabling utilities to support PEV charging regardless of location. The platform will allow manufacturers to offer a customer-friendly interface through which PEV drivers can more easily participate in utility PEV programs, such as rates for off-peak or nighttime charging. The portal for the system would be a utility's communications system and an electric vehicle's telematics system. As the electric grid evolves with smarter functionality, electric vehicles can serve as a distributed energy resource to support grid reliability, stability and efficiency. With more than 225,000 plug-in vehicles on U.S. roads -- and their numbers growing -- they are likely to play a significant role in electricity demand side management.
