Up for auction is a 1960 Ford Falcon two door coupe.  It has the 144 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder motor with the manual 3 speed shift on the column.  There is no rust on the body.  The driver's side floor pan is rusted through in an area about 1"x4" at its lowest point.  The previous owner patched it with so it does not leak.   Other than surface rust on the bottom of the car, the only other area of rust is at the rear of the right rear wheelwell.  Both of these areas can be seen on the photos below.  There is no rust in the trunk or engine bay areas.

When I got the car both bumpers were painted dark green to match the wheels and interior trim.  They were in good shape with no dents so I had them, as well as the grill, chromed within the past 45 days.  All of the stainless trim around the windows and doors is in very good condition.  All of the glass has the original "Ford" logos.  The windshield does not have any cracks but is pitted from age.  The rest of the glass is in very good condition.  The pivot pins on both vent windows are broken but the windows will shut tightly.  The door glass rattles in the frame as the window tracks are worn.  The paint is good but not a high end paint job.  The tires are brand new and have less than 100 miles on them.  There is a spare wheel that does not have a tire mounted on it.  There is no jack or lug wrench.

The engine starts easily even on cold days.  It has a manual choke and soon settles into an even idle.  There are no hesitations or flat spots on acceleration.  There are small oil drops and a small coolant drop under the car after it sits for awhile.  The clutch works well with no grinding on upshifts or downshifts.  First gear is not synchronized.  The brakes have been recently bled and the pedal is hard when pumped.  However, the first time you hit the brakes, there is some distance before the breaks work.  Once it reaches that point, the car stops well and straight.

The interior is in excellent shape with newly recovered seats, new door panels, new carpet and a new headliner.  The gas gauge reads nearly 1/2 full all of the time and the temperature gauge did not move, although it was very cold the day I drove the car.  The car has one set of keys, an ignition key and a key for the trunk.  The trunk has a carpet liner.  The entire car is very clean including the trunk and engine bay.

Here's the story on why I am selling the car.  Last year I restored a 1964 Corvette coupe.  I took a 1957 Chevrolet 150 on trade plus cash.  I put the '57 Chevy on eBay but it did not meet my reserve.  The high bidder called me after the auction was over and wanted to trade cars.  I did not really want a 1960 Falcon but we eventually agreed on a difference figure that worked for both of us.  Now I want to sell the Falcon to cash out of my Corvette.  I have not driven the car very much but it appears to be a reliable car.  As I said earlier, it always starts on the first turn.  It drives well down the road and does not pull to either side.  The guy that traded it to me drove it often and said it never let him down.  I have a clear North Carolina title for the car in my name.

I have taken a bunch of photos of the entire car including the bottom and the can be seen at:  http://s188.photobucket.com/user/jerhofer/library/1960%20Ford%20Falcon?sort=3&page=1

The car is sold as is with no warranty.  If you have questions, please give me a call at 704-657-8320.

Watch how a Ford Raptor rolls down the assembly line in Dearborn

Sun, 30 Mar 2014

Bloomberg TV reporter Matt Miller is the proud new owner of a pretty killer truck. How do we know? The reporter headed to Dearborn, MI to Ford's assembly plant, with a film crew in tow, to see exactly how his new F-150 SVT Raptor and its mother-loving 6.2-liter V8 engine, was screwed together.
The resulting video does an excellent job of summing up how an assemblage of parts and pieces is turned into a triple-black Raptor, thanks to the work of some 1,000 employees and about 20 hours of real time. Click through below to see how the truck is born, with a surprise cameo playing the part of delivery driver at the end.

Ford C-Max, Fusion hybrids subject of MPG lawsuit in California

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

A California lawsuit over the fuel economy claims for the 2013 Ford C-Max was first reported back in December. Based on the numerous reports we've heard of disgruntled owners failing to get their car's EPA fuel economy ratings on the C-Max and 2013 Fusion Hybrid, we suspected there would be more to this story. The Detroit News is reporting that two California law firms are combining their lawsuits against Ford on this matter for "false and misleading" claims.
The article states that there are hundreds of C-Max and Fusion Hybrid owners who have joined the lawsuit, but the issue isn't limited to customers. In December, Consumer Reports extensively tested both the Fusion Hybrid and C-Max and found that both hybrids performed significantly worse than their EPA claims. This all comes just a few months after Hyundai and Kia took the unprecedented step of lowering the fuel economy ratings for all of their 2012 and 2013 model-year vehicles.

Recharge Wrap-up: Grimsel electric car breaks acceleration world record, electric Ford Raptor ATV debuts

Sun, Nov 16 2014

An all-electric version of the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is now available... as an ATV. Made by Caddyshack Golf Cars, it features officially licensed Ford badging borrowed from the super-macho pickup. It has a lifted chassis with leaf springs in the front and rear, hydraulic shocks and off-road tires. Powered by a 48-volt motor, it can do 0-25 mph in 2.9 seconds. Range is an estimated 30 miles - plenty to get you through 18 of the most rugged holes of golf you've ever played. Caddyshack also offers other miniature electric Fords, including a Shelby GT500, Shelby Cobra and 50th Anniversary Mustang. Read more at Green Car Reports. Lexus takes a crack at the BMW i3 in a new video from Funny or Die. In the decidedly anti-EV film, a group of guys drives to Las Vegas for a "dad-chelor party" in a Lexus CT 200h and a BMW i3. The Lexus hybrid makes it to Sin City without any problems, while the BMW's occupants need to make several lengthy stops to charge along the way, missing much of the fun. The video lampoons the inherent range limitations of the EV (the BMW group ends up driving slowly through the desert with no AC or radio to save energy), all in a well produced, if somewhat misguided, short comedy film. Perhaps they should have considered the i3 with a range extender? See the video below, or read more at Green Car Reports. Students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University have set a new EV acceleration world record. Their "Grimsel" racing car was able to zoom from 0-100 kph (0-62.137 mph) in just 1.785 seconds in less than 30 meters (98.425 feet), crushing the previous record of 2.134 seconds. Even more impressive is that the Grimsel was built by the students themselves, as part of the Formula Student team at the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich. The car weighs just 370 pounds and provides 200 horsepower and 1,202 pound feet of torque from the four hub motors. The Grimsel uses traction control to manage torque for maximum acceleration. See the record acceleration run in the videos below or read more at Gizmag, at Electric Autosport or in the press release from ETH Zurich below. 'grimsel' breaks world record The 'grimsel' electric racing car today broke the previous world record for acceleration in electric cars. The vehicle accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.785 seconds in under 30 metres. The new record was set by students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, who also designed and built the vehicle.
