Classic And Clean 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 - Low Miles! on 2040-cars
Omaha, Nebraska, United States
|
Meet Gracie, my 1958 Ford Fairlane 500. Have to sell-moving to house with no garage or room to store. :( 4 door sedan - all original. Almost "Survivor" but had some body work done. Had the rust cut out, replaced with metal, and had the white repainted. Otherwise, she's all original! The 35,555 original miles on original 332 motor. I bought from the mechanic of the original owners who all lived in a small town in Nebraska. 3 speed automatic tranny. The seats have been completely covered in the original vinyl covers all these years until recently, so the fibers in the seat are vibrant and in perfect shape. I still have the form fitted vinyl seat covers but they aren't in the best shape. Glass has no cracks. Mirrors have darkened slightly around edges. Tires have a fair amount of tread. Rear tires are somewhat "dry."Heater works good. Has "air vents" and wing windows. All windows don't go down all the way. But function fine within a comfortable and useable range. Tube Radio is AM only. Headliner is in tact except for a small rip just above the rear seat on the pillar. The rest of the headliner is complete but at one point must have gotten wet because there's some water stains. Seatbelts are obviously not original. Carpet is in good shape in the rear and front passenger's side but faded. Under the driver's feet it's pretty torn up but covers well with floor mats. All electronics work. The temperature gauge is not functioning at the time. Motor is solid! As stated, these are original miles and appears to have been stored most of her years. There is a very minor oil leak, not significant. Exhaust is clear. I just had the brakes redone. Transmission does not slip. Paint is still glossy. The black shows the patina. Has a few nicks on the black, as it is original, but super shape overall considering the age. You can still see your reflection on the black. Exhaust system is good. Floor pans are solid. No obvious rust, but upon close observation you can find some surface rust in the hidden corners. Gracie turns heads and gathers crowds at car shows. Comes with small die-cast model of the '58 Fairlane, original Owners Manual, original floor mats (?) and memorabilia. Feel free to text with questions (402) 313-8325. This description is as transparent as can be. Thank you for shopping. |

Old vs. new debate gets new life with $25,000 Fiesta ST vs. E46 M3 showdown
Fri, 10 Jan 2014You know who you are. There's probably a few of you reading; the ones that say, "Why would I spend $27,000 on a new Mazda MX-5 when I could get a used Chevrolet Corvette with more power." Yes, we're talking to you, used car proponents. While it is a fair argument, it's not like used cars don't come with drawbacks of their own, though.
In an attempt to put this new-versus-used argument to bed once and for all, Matt Farah of the The Smoking Tire has picked up a pair of $25,000 cars - a used, but lightly modified, 2003 BMW M3 and a 2013 Ford Fiesta ST. Naturally, there's a comparison.
Farah, as he's wont to do, does get into the nitty gritty of what each car is like to drive, and discusses the merits of used and new-car shopping. But as he rightly points out while testing the M3, "So, it is a good car. But like any used car, it really does depend on the individual car."
Ford cuts 950 Russian jobs on weak demand
Thu, 03 Apr 2014The Russian auto market, in decline for the past year and further hit by the declining value of the ruble and recent sanctions over its annexation of Crimea, has forced Ford to cut jobs and shifts at two of its joint venture plants there. Around 700 of the 2,700 total workers who build the Russian-market Focus and Mondeo will be cut at the plant in Vsevolozhsk, near St. Petersburg as it drops to a single production shift. A second plant about 700 miles away in Yelabuga, in the Tartarstan region, will lose 250 workers. That plant builds seven vehicles, including the Explorer, Kuga and Edge.
The Moscow Times says Ford has been especially hit by the market decline, the overall market losing 5.5 percent in 2013 compared to the year before, but Ford sales dropping 18 percent in 2013 year-on-year. This year isn't going any better, with The Blue Oval posting a 21-percent decline through the first two months of 2014. That's why, though the Yelabuga plant builds the CUVs that customers are moving into, even it is facing cuts.
The job cuts in Vsevolozhsk come on top four-week plant shutdown planned so that the paint and body shops can go to one shift. In a statement, the company said, "Ford Sollers remains absolutely committed to the Russian market and is confident it has the right product plan, people and assets to deliver long-term profitable growth."
