Original California, Black Plate Un-restored 1947 Ford Pickup 1/2 Ton Truck on 2040-cars
San Jose, California, United States
|
Solid, unrestored, original California black plate truck with flat head V8 and with current
registration, clear title and "truckload" of spare parts. This is a rare driver which has been in constant use and care all its life, not a barn find or a restored one. Ideal for someone to just enjoy driving while planning a restoration, or restore to whatever level you want. No need to remove and replace many non-original parts those trucks typically have. Rebuilt transmission and a new clutch in the last 5 years,
engine rebuilt earlier, starts ok after a few cranks and runs smoothly without
smoking. Good dual exhaust. Literally a truckload of spare parts (see list below) which
you could sell on eBay probably for a few thousand dollars. The original owner died several years ago, the second owner
was a wife of a professional truck mechanic who rebuilt the transmission and a
few other things, I’m the 3rd owner. Paint is faded and oxidized (looks like primer), but most of
the paint could be polished to a shine. It’s just up to a buyer to
retain the current patina, or polish it to a shine (and fix/respray the front right
corner and some other ugly spots), or give a new paint job of any desired
quality (according to NADA guides this is a $40k truck when restored, possibly
more due to its rust free originality). Front right fender got a dent about 3
inch diameter and half inch deep, which someone years ago patched up with bondo
and gray paint spray all around it Very solid original steel all around – original floors,
running boards, fenders, bed etc. Rust
hole in the lower back of the cab behind driver (new steel repair patch is easily available, e.g. a pair
for $80 – search ebay for “1938-1947 Ford Pickup Truck USA Made STEEL Rear Cab
Corners PAIR”) and holes in the front corners of the bed. Also some rusted
edges of the front apron and surface rust wherever the paint was rubbed off
from use around the bed. Brake fluid changed Dec 1, 2013. All bleed nipples operate
smoothly, good lining left on shoes.
Brakes are usable but not very strong (not sure how normal it is, that’s
the only old truck I have driven). A brand new master cylinder and wheel
cylinders kit for rebuild are also included just in case. (Also several used
master cylinders and a used set of wheel cylinders are included). Similarly the
steering is quite loose by modern standards and may need improvement (again I’m
not sure what’s “normal” in those trucks). Brand new tires, tubes and balancing on front wheels. Newer
rear tires and tubes with excellent tread and no side cracks/visible
deterioration. Wheels are tires are of
correct sizes. (Two spare wheels with tires included as well). From what I can tell two upgrades which are not original are
modern spin-on oil filter (several new filters
included) and tube shocks (original lever type shocks are included). In the
cabin the seats and some added gauges are also not original. Most things work, doors close and lock (from inside) nicely,
windows roll up and down, wiper works etc, some bulbs may be burnt out. No keys
except for lockable fuel cap (original fuel cap also included). I just lock the
steering wheel with the “Club”. No keys needed to start – just flip a start
switch. The list of spare parts (mostly used) is too long to
itemize, they fill out the truck bed – see one of the photos where the
parts are loaded. Some examples: -
Operator manual -
Brand new, never used set of transmission gears -
3 or 4 used transmissions with shifters -
Used engine parts left from the rebuilt
(crankshaft, set of pistons, rods etc) -
Intake manifold -
Drive shaft -
Rear end (diff, axels etc) -
Multiple half axels -
Steering wheel -
Two road wheels (and a new side mount spare
wheel kit) -
Both doors (rust free), and some front body
parts -
Several window mechanisms, extra windows - Some brand new window seals and rattle eliminating
window glides -
Suspension springs -
Lever type shock absorbers -
Several carburetors -
Starters, generators -
Several water pumps -
Several brake master cylinders (one brand new)
and other brake parts -
A few (3?) sets of hood “noses” with handles which opens the hood -
Air filter, several oil filters -
About 20 old engine oil cans with oil (those are
collector items now with prices starting at $10 and going up depending on
rarity) -
Horn -
Lift jack - Hub caps -
Front wheel spindles -
Other stuff IMPORTANT: I will not load or pack the spare parts, you need
to come and get them or send someone to get/pack them. Price includes all the
spare parts but if you are unable to collect the parts you will not get any
refunds for them. The truck may also be purchased locally so I reserve the
right to end the auction at any time. True mileage unknown, the mileage shown is a recent odometer read out. Thank you for your interest and good luck bidding! |

2015 Ford Mustang potentially 'leaked' by Car and Driver
Mon, 28 Oct 2013Few upcoming debuts have been as eagerly anticipated as the all-new Ford Mustang that's expected to debut shortly as the Mustang's 50th anniversary year approaches. Well, Car and Driver magazine would have us wait no longer as it claims to be leaking Ford's new global pony car early.
Of course what you're looking at is just as likely to be a composite rendering based on what C/D projects the new Mustang to look like, but to our eyes it looks spot on. Combining design traits from the Evos Concept with classic Mustang signatures and Ford's Aston-inspired grille treatment, C/D's images - including a complete 360-degree digital navigator - show a Mustang not only for the modern era, but also for global distribution, taking a quintessentially American car to markets its predecessors were never designed for.
Those global considerations are expected to spell the demise of the outgoing Mustang's holdout live rear axle in favor of an independent suspension, and a slight constricting of the exterior dimensions. And thanks to a separate leak, coming from a digital survey, we have apparent confirmation of what will power the new pony car. While the existing 3.7-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 engines will apparently carry over with only slight adjustments in output, the survey confirms a new 2.4-liter turbo four will be positioned in between them, offering slightly more power than the V6 but markedly improved fuel economy for a manageable $560 premium over base.
