1974 RANGER XLT. 64,591 ORIGINAL MILES. SOME RUST ON THE WHEEL WELLS ON THE BOX. VEHICLE WAS WRECKED ON A SNOWY DAY LAST WINTER. IT DAMAGED THE HOOD AND THE GRILLE INSERTS, IT DID NOT DAMAGE THE BUMPER, RADIATOR, OR ANY OTHER PART. THE HOOD IS A USED ORIGINAL WITH A DENT ON THE RIGHT FRONT, WHICH WOULD BE AN EASY REPAIR. THE DOORS ARE SPRUNG DUE TO THE WIND. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND FRONT FENDER WILL REQUIRE SOME BODY WORK AS THE PHOTO SHOWS. THE ENGINE IS A 360, WHICH IS BELIEVED TO BE THE ORIGINAL, BUT WILL FIND OUT FOR SURE, AS I WORK WITH THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM.

TIRES HAVE ABOUT 1500 MILES ON THEM. THE INTERIOR IS CLOSE TO PERFECT, THE DASH IS CRACKED. THIS RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE NEW. IT HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION I HAD GREAT PLANS FOR RESTORING THIS TO PERFECT, BUT TOO MANY OTHER PROJECTS GOT IN THE WAY. THIS WAS AND STILL IS A DAILY DRIVER. I DRIVE IT ABOUT 2 MILES TO WORK EVERY DAY. AGAIN IT DRIVES AND RUNS PERFECTLY. THIS WOULD A WAY EASY RESTORATION BACK TO PERFECT. MY SON WANTED TO MAKE IT INTO A CONVERTIBLE RAT ROD, BUT I WILL NOT TAKE THIS CONDITION OF VEHICLE AND BUTCHER IT.

IT IS A FAIRLY RARE RANGER XLT PACKAGE AND A CAMPER SPECIAL, IT HAS THE STORAGE BOX ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH IS ONLY ON THE CAMPER SPECIAL. PLEASE LOOK AT THE PHOTOS AND THEN FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTION. I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS, EXCEPT ANYONE WHO QUESTIONS THE ORIGINAL MILEAGE. THIS WAS PURCHASED NEW BY MY FRIENDS FATHER, AND SPENT MANY YEARS IN HIS GARAGE. IT WAS STARTED FREQUENTLY AND DRIVEN ABOUT EVERY MONTH TO KEEP EVERYTHING IN WORKING ORDER. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS.

2015 F-150 launch to curb Ford profits?

Thu, 30 Jan 2014

Ford is making a big bet on aluminum with its new 2015 F-150, and it's possible that the decision will hurt the company financially, at least in the short term. After earning a record $8.6 billion in 2013, the Blue Oval does not expect to set another record in 2014. According to Automotive News, that's "largely attributable to F Series," says Bob Shanks, Ford's Chief Financial Officer.
To retool for the new F-150, Ford will idle its Dearborn Truck Plant in Michigan for 11 weeks and the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri for 2 weeks. "3 of the 13 overall weeks occur during what normally is our summer shutdown timeframe," said Mike Levine, Ford Trucks Communication Manager, in an email to Autoblog. The extra 10 weeks will be preparing for the more aluminum-intensive construction for the trucks and will mean over 2 months of no F-150s being made. For comparison's sake, Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne just confirmed that the 200 plant in Sterling Heights, MI will be down for 30 days to retool for the new model, but obviously there are many more F-150 production variables than for the midsize sedan.
Levine notes that Ford is already running three shifts at both plants, and says the automaker has plans to ensure that there is adequate supply of the full-size pickups during the retooling process. The company does not want to suffer a shortage of the vehicle that accounted for 31-percent of its 2013 US sales and an even bigger percentage of its profits.

New Toyota Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado/Canyon fight for midsize truck dominance

Sun, May 28 2023

Sam Wedll has been driving his Toyota Tacoma pickup on the rugged roads of Northern California for seven trouble-free years, racking up almost 100,000 miles, so he’s interested in the redesigned version of the truck coming later this year. He paid $34,000 for his truck in 2016, loading it with plenty of options. HeÂ’s eyeing the new gas-electric hybrid Toyota Motor Corp. is going to offer, but Wedll, who does his own repairs, isnÂ’t interested in paying luxury prices. “The hybrid is pretty interesting to me because I like the idea of the fuel efficiency,” says Wedll, 47, a casino operations manager in Blue Lake, California. “IÂ’m just trying to save some costs wherever possible.” The Tacoma, known as the Taco to its legions of loyalists, is the leader of the pack in midsize pickups, one of the fastest-growing auto markets of the past decade. With outdoorsy weekend warriors and do-it-yourselfers looking for a truck that could fit in their garage, sales of midsize pickups more than doubled from 2010 to 2020. General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co., which abandoned the market segment when sales slowed early this century, returned with new trucks to take on the Tacoma, which has dominated the medium truck market for almost two decades. Although it's easy to predict that the most lushly appointed versions of the new Taco could approach $50,000 (prices wonÂ’t be announced until later this year), Toyota insists it isnÂ’t backing away from budget buyers even as it rolls out fancier trucks. The current Tacoma starts at $28,030, and the company says affordability is critical to its success. In fact, Toyota will continue to offer the Taco with an old-school stick shift. The Tacoma controls 42% of the midsize truck market and outsells FordÂ’s offering 4 to 1. ThatÂ’s a role reversal from the full-size pickup market, where FordÂ’s F-Series has ruled the road for 46 years. Tacoma sales in the U.S. surpassed 237,000 last year, more than twice the number of GMÂ’s No. 2-ranked Chevrolet Colorado, according to consultant LMC Automotive. But as growth in the overall segment slows, the midsize market is developing into more of a turf war, with manufacturers vying for the sweetest highest-margin spots. “This segment is likely past its prime growth spurt,” says Jeff Schuster, president of the Americas for LMC Automotive.

2015 Ford F-150 to get 2.7-liter EcoBoost?

Mon, 30 Dec 2013

As we prepare for the arrival of the all-new, next-generation Ford F-150, rumors about the new truck are picking up steam. Naturally, many of said rumors aren't just related to the way the truck will look (it's expected to take design cues from the Atlas concept shown above), they're tied to what's going to motivate the Blue Oval mainstay, with Ford's EcoBoost range likely to play an increasingly key role. While we're still expecting the current 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 to retain its position as a premium alternative to Ford's naturally aspirated V6 and V8, a Canadian automotive news site is proposing that the Dearborn automaker is also preparing a new, more fuel-efficient downsized EcoBoost option.
Autos.ca is reporting that a new, 2.7-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 could find its way into the lighter, aluminum-intensive truck. The new engine supposedly makes use of asymmetrical turbos to generate 320 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque - substantially more impressive numbers than the current 3.7-liter base engine's 302 ponies and 278 lb-ft - while offering improved fuel economy and emissions. The new 2.7 EcoBoost (internally dubbed "Nano") isn't expected to supplant the naturally aspirated V6 as the F-150's base engine, it's expected to slot in above directly it.
Naturally, we're prescribing more than a few grains of salt to go with these rumors, at least until Ford debuts the next F-150 at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, a reveal we'll be covering in a mere two weeks.
