Complete body-off restoration.  We bought this F100 from the original owner with no intentions of doing a restoration.  We were just going to clean it up a little.  After realizing how solid this truck was we decided to restore it.  We removed the body and bed and had the inside and under-side of the bed media blasted.  The inside floor of the bed was extremely solid with just some light pitting.  The underside was just as nice.  The lower sides in front of and behind the tires were perfect with only a couple of pin-holes that showed up after the blasting.  The floor of the cab was solid with only a small spot on the drivers floor that had began to show signs of rust.  I removed the spot and replaced it with a 6"x6" patch (didn't really need it but did it anyway).  We had the entire truck sanded and repainted the original Boxwood Green.  We painted the underside of the bed but left the cab underside original.  You can still see some of the original paint on the bottom of the cab.  The body panels had no dents (other than a couple of small dings) so no body filler needed to be used other than a light skim-coat to make sure everything was smooth.  We wanted to use as many of the original parts as we could so we only replaced the body-side molding and the front hood lip molding.  The front grill, window chrome, emblems and all the glass is original to the truck.  The truck has the complete original interior (still has the original FoMoCo rubber mat) except for a dash cover.  The seat has a few small splits in the stitching (as you can see in the pictures) but we did not replace it because you cannot find the original material.  The AM radio still works.  The cigarette lighter doesn't look like it has ever been used.  We replaced all the window and door rubbers.  We put 8" wheels with bands and dog dish caps to give the truck a little better look.  We replaced all 4 shocks, both rear leaf springs and some bushings to help with the ride.  The engine is original to the truck and runs and sounds great.  I put a new head gasket and intake gasket on the engine and that was all I had to do to the engine.

This is a very solid and great running truck.  This is not a $25000 restoration but if you are looking for a great truck that will turn heads and you will be proud to drive then this is the truck for you.  I have tried to describe in detail as much as I can.  I am sure I have left something out but I don't like to "over sell" something.  Let the pictures tell you the rest.

Watch Ford build a Mustang atop Burj Khalifa, world's tallest building

Sun, Nov 23 2014

In 1965, a Ford Mustang Convertible proudly went on display at the top of the Empire State Building, the world's tallest building at the time. Earlier this year, the Blue Oval recreated the stunt by bringing the latest droptop 'Stang to the sky-high structure. Unfortunately, while still iconic, the New York skyscraper has lost the world title. Of course, an automaker can't let something like that get in the way of a good publicity stunt. For the inauguration of the Ford business unit in the Middle East and Africa, the brand gave the 2015 Mustang Convertible an even bigger building to climb – the biggest in fact. The droptop made its way to the 112th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. To put a final topper on the whole event, executive chairman Bill Ford was the one to place the car's famous badge, making it complete. Like with the Empire State Building spectacle, getting the Mustang to the top wasn't as simple as just driving it off the elevator. Check out the video above to see how it was done, and scroll down to read Ford's press release about the event. Google's new Android Autos OS unveiled, will be in cars this year [w/video]

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Connected cars are coming en-masse. We know this much. How, though, remains something of an open question, especially as two of the world's largest tech companies are preparing to battle for control of your car's dashboard. On the one hand, we have Apple and its CarPlay system. And now, we know what Google has been working on with Auto Link.
Its new name is Android Auto, and yes, it's based off the Android architecture that is the primary challenger to Apple's iOS mobile operating system. Announced at Google's I/O conference today, Android Auto functions similarly to CarPlay - owners will need to plug their smartphones into their cars to access the full breadth of capability.
In Android Auto's case, that means a wealth of voice controls to limit distracted driving. Google's marquee apps will be available when the interface arrives in production models later this year, including Google Play Music, Google Maps and voice-activated texting and text playback. Meanwhile, developers will be able to begin designing custom apps for the new system via an upcoming software development kit.

Ford F-150 production hampered by frame shortage

Sat, May 30 2015

If anyone has questions about how Ford's new aluminum-bodied F-150 will hold up, it's not buyers. Orders are so strong for the fullsize pickup that competitors General Motors and Ram are discounting their offerings to hold onto market share. It's a shame for the Blue Oval then, that it can't build all the trucks it needs because frame supplier Metalsa isn't delivering enough frames. Neither Ford nor Metalsa has said what the problem is, but Ford employees are at Metalsa's Kentucky plant trying to get it sorted out, Automotive News reports. Overtime shifts at the Dearborn Truck Plant and the Kansas City Assembly Plant have been canceled due to the shortage that's been a problem for at least two months now. The issue is exacerbated by this being the changeover period in production from the old model to the new, which comes with its own issues. That would help explain why even though Dearborn production finished ramping up in January, output in April was down 9.2 percent compared to last year, according to AN. Transaction prices are up for the new truck, but overall F-150 production in Q1 was down 40 percent, and missing product means missing profits. Combined with the production drop for the new Ford Edge, the company's Q1 bottom line was robbed of $1 billion. It isn't clear when the frame issue will be solved, but workers at the plants are ready to run "all-out" when it is.
