Very Unique 1949 Ford F-1 Pickup!!!
I am selling my 1949 Ford F-1 pickup truck. The truck was originally my father's and was restored in the late 80's and early 90's. A friend of his bought an old car wash in the early 80's and converted it into an auto garage, and the truck came was inside the building. My father built this truck to drive, not to show, took his time restoring it, and added his own unique touches and craftmanship to the overall look. The truck has been in my possession for over a decade now, and although I enjoyed it in my early 20's, life has become a little too busy to really enjoy it anymore and it is time to pass it on to someone else who has the time, and/or money, to enjoy it. It is an older restoration and needs a little TLC to be an everyday driver, but could also be a great project for anyone. There is a lot here to start with!!!
Some details of the truck have been lost over time, along with my father and the people who were involved in it and faded receipts. It was completed when I was a young boy, so I will try to tell you everything I know and can remember about it!
**I have listed it as having 10,000 miles, but the mileage is actually unknown.**
The truck comes equipped with a 400 Chevy small block and 400 turbo trans. To the best of my knowledge, the engine is out of a Stingray. I believe they were stock between 72'-78' to give you and idea of the engine age and where it may have come from. It is an automatic with a Hurst shifter...possibly a stall converter, but not sure. The engine and trans are still solid as ever and it sounds awesome with the Corvette sidepipes! I installed a new Weiand intake on it and it has a new battery. The alternator was tested bad, but I haven't had to charge the battery? The alternator bracket is not bolted to the intake like it should be, but enough gearheads told me not to worry about it. I couldn't find a bracket to match up with the new intake??? It has an old Quadrajet carbeurator on it and a points distributor. My dad had a plastic zip tie that held the ignition wires going to the starter solenoid off of the block and manifolds, and it broke the last time I drove it, which was two years ago. The wires and heat guards are a bit melted and frayed, although it still fires right up and runs, but these need replaced! I had to replace the transmission lines after the flare broke on one at the radiator. They seem secure and show no signs of leaks, but may need to be ran differently, or more professionally. It has rack and pinion steering and I'm pretty sure the majority of the front steering and/or suspension is out of a Mustang. I have no idea what gearing is in the rear end though? It has discs in the front and drums in the back. There is a problem with the brakes right now that I haven't had time to fix. The rear driver side drum appears to have a leak and the whole system probably needs fluid and bled.
The body is all steel, original, and pretty much rust free. The fenders may be from Arizona though. It was painted over 20 years ago and not the greatest. The paint is fading in some places, there is a run or two, and there are chips and such around the truck. To the best of my knowledge there is no bondo on it and there are a couple very minor signs of bubbling. From a couple feet away you can only see the larger chips around the hood and doors, and nothing more, but I am an honest seller! There is a lot of chrome on the exterior and under the hood. It cleaned up really well, but definitly has some spot rust after all the years. The only real "damage" to the body is the interior of the passenger door and frame, which I have included pics of. The last time I previously drove it and washed it, the drain hole in the door must have been plugged up and any water that seeped into the door sat inside the bottom of it. The metal is still solid, but is showing signs of rust and is discolored. The wood on the bed is still in really good shape! However the rails in between the wood should be repainted, as well as the yellow stripes in the bevels of the wood. As far as the exterior goes, the only other fixes would be the driver-side door handle, which opens fine from the inside, but not the outside, and the weatherstripping needs replaced.
The interior of the truck is fairly simple. The seat is the original, but was recovered. It is all steel and painted to match the truck. The original gauges are installed, but not functioning. As far as I know they are the originals! However, there are working gauges for the oil and water temp, and the voltage.
The tires and rims are in good shape. The rims cleaned up very nicely, but the Ford caps have a lot of spot rust. These tires are probably 25 years old, and although they have gone flat a couple times over the years, they still have a lot of tred and are holding air just fine, with no signs of rotting. The small orange lights on the front grill are out and the brake lights aren't working, but I believe this is due to the lack of fluid. I believe there is some sort of brake light switch on the cylinder? Not sure, but I will look into it. The wipers have never worked to my knowledge, but in all the years since my dad took possesssion of this truck, it has never seen a rain or a winter!
I have tried selling this truck locally, but with no luck. I had it posted on Craigslist for some time, but the only contact I really got was from scammers and lowballers! I am very motivated to sell this truck and if any potential bidders/buyers have any questions, want more pictures, or whatever, please don't hesitate to contact me. A mechanic friend of mine suggested I try to sell it on Ebay and so I'm trying it out. I have never bought or sold anything on here, so please disregard the lack of feedback. Like I said before, don't hesitate to contact me about anything regarding the truck. The truck is sold as is- no warranty implied or written. I am requiring a $500 deposit through PayPal within 48 hours of auction close, and cash only for the remainder at the time of pickup and title transfer. I have read too many horror stories about fake checks, money orders, and whatever....so if you're a serious buyer, then you will have the cash to afford this truck! The truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction at anytime.
I look forward to talking and interacting with you if need be, and good luck to all potential bidders! I hope you will enjoy this truck as much as my father did, as well as my son and I! Thank you for the interest!!!:) -John

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
Spy shooter claims proof of upcoming aluminum Ford F-Series Super Duty
Thu, 26 Jun 2014Ford has already confirmed that the 2015 F-150 (pictured above) was just the beginning for its more extensive use of aluminum. CEO Alan Mulally said it himself during the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. We've even already seen the future Raptor testing with an aluminum body. But a recent discovery from an intrepid spy photographer might indicate that the lightweight metal is coming to the Blue Oval's Super Duty pickups in their upcoming generation, as well.
According to Automotive News, a spy shooter in Colorado spotted a prototype for the next-gen F-350 testing. He happened to have a magnet on hand and got close enough to check the truck out. When he held it up to the metal in the bed, it didn't stick, which signaled to him a switch from steel to aluminum.
Obviously, this claim raises some questions. Given that it was a test vehicle, one possibility is that the Blue Oval is just evaluating the feasibility of switching to aluminum for the Super Duty trucks, not necessarily committed to it yet. Ford has been testing it quite exhaustively, after all. In fact, much of the rest of the truck in question was covered in camouflage, so it's possible that the magnet failed to work along the rest of the body not because it was aluminum, but because it wasn't powerful enough to get through the disguising material. Thus, the lightweight metal's use could be far less substantial than on the new F-150. Still, it was a clever idea for the cameraman to check things out and might have given us the first hint about brand's next heavy-duty models.
2016 Ford Mustang gets new packages, trim and hood-vent turn signals
Mon, May 11 2015Ford just introduced the 2015 Mustang last year, but the iconic pony car is already getting a few minor updates for the 2016 model year consisting primarily of new options packages and trim. For starters, Ford is bringing back the turn indicators integrated into the hood vents, first launched on the Mustang nearly half a century ago, which will now be fitted as standard on the Mustang GT. The feature was apparently requested by customers, and signals to the driver when the turning indicator is on. Premium models also get the new Sync 3 system. The Blue Oval automaker is also offering racing stripes in black or silver on the Mustang GT and Mustang EcoBoost, along with a black roof option. There's a new Pony Package available for the EcoBoost Premium model as well, with 19-inch polished alloys, special grille, side stripe and chrome window surround. Customers ordering a Mustang GT fastback or convertible can opt for the Black Accent Package with murdered-out wheels, spoiler, taillamp trim and logos. There's a California Special Package being offered on the Mustang GT Premium with such touches as 19-inch black machined alloys, hood and side stripes, black spoiler, mirror and hood vents, dark taillamp accents, a front splitter, special grille and gas cap, strut tower brace and an interior decked out in black leather with suede inserts and red stitching. Finally, Ford is offering a Performance Package for the Mustang GT convertible with the manual transmission, similar to the kit available for the fastback but catered to the drop-top. The package includes upgraded suspension, Brembo brakes, 19-inch black-painted alloys, a larger radiator, strut tower brace and K-brace, retuned electronics, a Torsen limited slip differential, machine-turned aluminum instrument panel, a new splitter and the removal of the rear spoiler.
