I'll start this listing by saying I really hate to part with this car.  It is fun to drive and will go through any weather.  It also holds all my family with their friends as it seats 8.

I'll start out with the bad things which will explain why I'm selling it.
Here is what you'll need if you intend to put it back on the road.
1. It failed inspection because of a rusted EGR pipe that is leaking exhaust under the hood.  That pipe and nut are not terribly expensive but from what I'm told the labor can be like opening a can of worms.  Could take a couple hours or an entire day to replace.  I don't have the time or specific knowledge to dig into it myself.
2. The rocker panel on the passenger's side is shot.  See close-up photo.  I have a repair panel I will include with the truck.
3. I has an oil leak which I think could be a head gasket.  I guess this is common on the 4.6.  It shows no signs of oil in the anti-freeze or vice-versa.  You can go for miles without any signs and then out of the blue it will smoke a little and you'll smell oil.  Not sure how this affects inspection though.
4. Inspection guy says it needs a mufflers and tailpipe.  This was news to me.
5. I broke a brake line the last time I plowed with it.  It was on the RH front and I just haven't looked to see exactly what broke.  Could be a hose.
Now the nit-picky crap.
1. The front heat and AC don't work but the rear works awesome.  I'm guessing it's a diverter valve under the dash.
2. You will need a new battery.  No question.
3. The rear wiper arm is stripped out but the motor seems to be fine.
4. The driver's outside mirror cracked while sitting this past Winter.  No idea why.
5. Inner CV boot ripped on front axle.  One front U-Joint is a little loose and may need replacing in the near future.
6. Front pinion seal has small leak.
7. Trans tailshaft seal has a small leak.
8. There is a vibration in the front end at higher speeds only on acceleration.  I originally thought it had something to do with the activation of the AWD related to a solenoid, ABS sensor or something but, honestly, I really don't know.  The ABS light is not on.
Now the good stuff.
1. Just had $494.00 worth of work done on it when he was nice enough to tell me it failed inspection.  Wish he had inspected it before the work.
2. About $700.00 worth of new General Grabber HTS tires.  2 front tires literally have less than 100 miles.  The other 2 have about 5000 miles.  Tire photos are of a front and a rear.  These are 265/70R17's
3. Interior is practically flawless.  Unheard of condition for a car with this many miles.  Leather seats with 3rd row seating.  Capacity for 8 passengers.
4. Last time I looked, the rear frame crossmember was in good shape.  This is usually a common problem area for these cars.
5. Premium AM/FM Ford radio with 6-disc CD changer in console.
6. Part of recent work was a 4-wheel alignment.
This vehicle cannot be driven away without fixing the brake line and bleeding the brakes.  Bring a trailer to tow away.  I'm NOT delivering it anywhere.  You are responsible for arranging transportation.

Chrysler called out over lackluster Ram Runner by racer who helped develop it

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Fans of off-roading and desert blasting might recall that Chrysler offers an aftermarket conversion that can turn a Ram 1500 into a road-legal desert racer, called the Ram Runner. The kit, sold through Mopar, includes some significant suspension upgrades, body tweaks and a brawnier cat-back exhaust for the truck's 5.7-liter V8.
Considering all of this, comparisons with the almighty Ford F-150 SVT Raptor are common. Among the off-road community, that makes these two a sort of Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang for people that prefer driving on dirt. In the Race-Dezert forum, the discussion as to which truck was better was proceeding as normal - Ram fans said their piece and Ford fans said theirs. Then, a man named Kent Kroeker offered up his two cents.
See, Kroeker is a Baja racer, and the man that helped develop the Ram Runner. Despite his association with the truck, though, he had some less than kind words for Chrysler and the Ram Runner.

Ford Explorer Jackson Pollock Edition results in trip to hospital

Tue, 02 Jul 2013

Among the many useful pieces of driving advice we've taken to heart over the years, "Safely secure all cargo" is etched pretty high on our personal stone tablets. We've had a couple of frustrating moments over the years (numerous wonky cupholders and too-tall lidded cups; a radar detector that released its suction cups and dashed itself below the dashboard, etc.), but never anything like the scene above.
These photos above come courtesy of the Washington State Patrol, and they show the unfortunate aftermath of a driver, his dog, and his Ford Explorer after it crashed near the town of Belfair last week. According to reports, the man was schlepping five-gallon containers of paint inside his vehicle when he was involved in an unexplained accident. It's not clear what triggered the crash, but the impromptu abstract painting covered the whole of the interior, including the driver and his faithful companion.
The man was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, and his dog was cleaned and later taken to a humane society.
