Up for auction is the best step van I have seen for the price I am listing for. First off I would like to start by explaining why exactly it is being sold because that is a question I have myself when looking to purchase a new vehicle. Ok here we go, I purchased a delivery route from Snyders of Hanover Pretzel Co. and I have recently sold my route so I have no need for this vehicle. The vehicle has been in my possession for a 9 months under my ownership but I drove it for the company for a year prior. The company I worked for had its own very high-tech fleet mechanic shop so when trucks are parked at night they are checked constantly for issues and fixed immediately. This truck is all aluminum except the frame and bumpers so it is right about 10,000 lbs so you are not required to be put in next weight class which involved weigh stations. The truck has 130,000 miles on it but turns over first crank every time with no issue. Since I have owned it I kept up with same maintenance routine as the company did. I change oil every 4,000 miles and run synthetic blend. I have put brand new alternator in last 100 miles on truck, new timing belt put on maybe 6 months ago, I had a tire blow out so I replaced 3 of the 4 rear dooly tires including brand new rim and new studs, lugs. Front tire has been changed except passenger, Both doors on driver and passenger slide open and both have windows, There is a sliding door to block front seats from rear product as well. The passenger seat is a jump seat that folds down when you need passenger. There is a little over 18' of usable space in back and could actually put 20' pieces of lumber if you are looking to use for construction vehicle. The truck needs front brakes but if someone purchases the vehicle I will be putting brand new pads, rotors and I use top of the line everything for repairs. I am 6'1" tall and I can stand up inside the truck and not even close to touching my head on ceiling. This being the 5.4 v8 motor is a lot better than the v10s you see especially with gas prices and this truck gets pretty good mileage for the size of truck which I believe is from is being all aluminum. No damage on outside of truck other than normal scuffs and scratches. The graphics on the truck are taken off easily with heat gun or blow dryer and flat razor. Get one corner peeling and it comes right off. This truck was built in August of 2008 so Hit road in early January of 2009. I drove it 100 miles a day on the highway and did not dog it out, adult owned and treated great. There are 2 4' long ceiling lights on interior and one in front for great light in any dark situation. There are no leaks of any kind. Sorry the truck looks a little dirty in pictures but did not have time to clean it. It shines up really good and if you notice rear of truck looks like stain running down door but its just dirt from all the snow driven through lately. I have original roadside kit still with truck and never opened as well. I could talk about this truck for a while so I'll try and cut it shorter. The truck will be completely washed, bumpers and wheels touched up with white paint and looking as good as new. Sorry I do not have many pictures but I need to take some of my product out of truck still. Please ask any question you can think of and I will answer promptly. Also I will deliver this vehicle anywhere in the lower 48 states for small fee. Blue book on this truck is well over $23,000 if I was told correctly. I also have an aluminum fold out hand truck that can carry large amounts of product which sell for $500 everyday but if price is where I need it to be I can add to package if high bidder is interested. You may also call for faster responses to questions and if you need pictures other than what I have listed then than can be arranged. Bid with confidence because you will not be disappoints. Tranny and motor run real strong with no noises , leaks, smokes, etc... Don't miss out on the great deal. Why pay the 18k I see some people asking for 95-2004 model trucks and they cant compete with the power of this ford. Please don't hesitate to ask for delivery quote even if its California from Pennsylvania it will be lower cost than you would think. Truck is listed locally as well so first bid secures it staying until the end of auction. If you would like to make an offer I am willing to entertain any other so ask away. Thanks for looking and good luck.

Experts wonder if aluminum F-150 gives Ford a real advantage

Mon, 17 Mar 2014

There's no doubt that Ford is taking a risk in producing the body of its upcoming new F-150 pickup truck in aluminum. What is up for debate, however, is whether aluminum was a wise risk to take in the first place. Wards Auto took the opportunity to poll some experts on the subject of aluminum versus steel in the automotive sector, with somewhat unsurprising results.
Richard Schultz, a project consultant at Ducker Worldwide, which bills itself as "a leading aluminum industry consultant (though they also deal in steels), suggests that the potential drawbacks to aluminum - higher costs, lower supply - aren't really impediments to the auto industry's increased acceptance of the lightweight metal.
Similarly, Randall Scheps, global automotive marketing director for Alcoa, a massive aluminum producer, counters claims that aluminum is less safe for vehicle occupants, suggesting that the use of aluminum can actually increase safety as it could potentially allow for larger vehicles with more crush space than steel.

Automotive Grade Linux will be the backbone of your connected car

Fri, Jan 6 2017

Creating a backend for a secure, reliable, and expandable infotainment system is costly and time consuming. The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization, has set out to promote and advance the Linux operating system in commercial products. Automotive Grade Linux, or AGL, is a group within the Foundation that seeks to apply a Linux backend to a number of automotive applications in a variety of vehicles from various suppliers and manufacturers. AGL's goal is to create a common, unifying framework that allows developers and manufacturers to easily implement applications across platforms. Currently, the focus is on infotainment systems, but AGL has plans for instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and eventually active safety software. At CES, a display from Panasonic showed a completely digital and customizable dashboard that allows information and apps to be moved from the gauge cluster to the infotainment screen and back, all through the use of gesture and touch controls. Although the organization has been around for five years, it's really only been in the past three that the group has been working hand in hand with automakers and suppliers. The first two OEMs to participate, Toyota and Jaguar Land Rover, have since been joined by Mazda, Suzuki, Ford, and, as of this week, Daimler. The latter is important as until now most of AGL's partner's have been based in Japan or the US. Other partners include suppliers Denso, Renesas, Continental, Qualcomm, and Intel. AGL want's to supply roughly 80 percent of the backend, allowing partners to then finish and refine the Linux system for each individual application. Think of how the Android operating system is refined and customized for individual smartphones from Samsung, LG, and Motorola. While the final product looks different, developers can have an application that will work across all AGL systems. Because it is open source, anyone can use and develop for AGL. You can even go onto the group's website and download a copy right now. There is also a software development kit available that helps facilitate app creation on the platform. Vehicle development cycles take roughly five years, so there currently are no cars that run an AGL backbone available for consumers. AGL Executive Director Dan Cauchy says products should be hitting the market later this year, with even more coming in 2018. Right now, the industry is relatively fragmented when it comes to infotainment and related systems.

Hennessey completes first VelociRaptor SUV conversion [w/video]

Mon, 20 May 2013

Start with a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor as your base vehicle for modification, and chances are high that you'll end up with something pretty cool. Now, have those modifications done by professional lunatics Hennessey Performance, make the project turning the pickup into an ultra-long SUV, and the result stands a real chance of being a total kick in the ass. Let us present the Hennessey VelociRaptor then, in all of its awesomeness.
Hennessey has taken care in grafting a "Expedition style" rear cabin onto the Raptor, complete with an optional third row. The pictures we have show a cabin that's up to the fit and finish standards of the original Ford truck, too. The cab added over the bed also makes room for a massive load space out back, accessible via split out-folding doors and long enough for a person to lay down in (see video).
Mechanically, the truck-turned-SUV sticks with Ford's stock 6.2-liter V8, rated at 411 horsepower, or can be had with a supercharger and some 600 hp. Hennessey says the stock-motor VelociRaptor will run from 0-60 miles per hour in 7.5 seconds, while the hi-po version takes just 5.9 seconds. The SUV does take some of the off-road ability away from the Raptor, with the company saying it hasn't yet had the opportunity to test its capabilities. On-roading and "moderate off-road duties" are the current prescription.
