Behold, ye who are not worthy (for who is?), behold the mighty FORD TAURUS SHO. Long ago, the descendants of Henry, house of Ford, looked across the sea and spied Germany's automotive machine churning out luxury sedan after luxury sedan.

Though these chariots of Deutschland Steel had both comfort and reliability alike, they were lacking in something that was in short supply across the board back in 1988… speed and horsepower. Ford already had a top selling sedan with the Taurus, and it would be easy enough to slap on some luxury accoutrements, but what of the engine? The piddly 3.8 L V6 was wheezier than a smoker’s lung and the few horses it did contain were already condemned to the glue factory when Ford commissioned them for its family sedan. No, they needed something different. Something new. Something… powerful.

A phone call was made to the heart of Japan. This was truly an international collaboration. But who could be trusted with such a task? Toyota? Honda? Nay… Yamaha. With a tradition not necessarily rich in automotive craftsmanship, they took their piano making skills to the metal shop, and emerged with an engine unlike any the world had ever seen. 220 mighty stallions at the brakes, with 200 midrange torques, out of a 3.0L V6 that looks like the offspring of Cthulhu.

The design was a resounding success, but there was an issue. What if you wanted the speed, but not the hassle of a manual? In 1993, Ford redesigned the exterior with more badges, a tasteful spoiler, very progressive slicer wheels, and an automatic transmission with overdrive. They bored out the 3.0 to 3.2 to add 15 torques, lower the horsepower peak, and thus maintained the same performance as the manual version.

Which brings us to the 1993 ford Taurus SHO you see here. With only 56,000 miles, it is in pristine condition.

What haven't I told you? What about oil leaks you say? I have over $5,000 in receipts and the full service history of the car. The tires, battery, coolant system, and starter are all fairly new, and the transmission was replaced at 30,000 miles. THE BAD: I'm being brutally honest here in the interest of full disclosure. The check engine light comes on intermittently, but two different mechanics have give the taurus a clean bill of health. The fuel pump or the fuel regulator, I'm not sure which, will need to be replaced at some point in the future. It doesn't burn oil, there aren't any leaks or funny smells, the entire coolant system has been done, the 60,000 mile maintenance has been done, the fuel system's been cleaned, and the a/c still blows cold. For those of you concerned about rust, let me tell you about California weather and the drought we've been in. This car has no rust issues.

WHAT ABOUT THE TUNES?! The front speakers were destroyed by time, so I spent $370 replacing the front speakers and the radio, so now it has a JVC receiver with a usb port and aux jack. Let me tell you, the retractable antenna couldn't be happier. I still have the cd player and tape deck it came with.
I HEAR IT HAS A MOONROOF?! Yes it does, I even upgraded the moon roof seal to reduce cabin noise.
What else does it have? 8 way power seats (up, down, side to side, lumbar support,  AND inflatable side things to turn normal seat into bucket seat!), a vanity mirror for the front passenger with adjustable lights on either side, fog lamps, rear defrost, all leather interior and steering wheel, a secondary plastic visor so that if you are using the primary visor on the side window you can still block the sun from the front, a center console with lots of storage space and built in CD holder, a cup holder (the center console doubles as a cup holder for you big gulp fans), and a parking brake that automatically disengages when you shift into drive. As if it can sense your desire to get on the open road.

This is your opportunity to own a piece of muscle car sedan history. Here are the recent services, all performed by reputable mechanics, no cousin jimmy bob jr. in the backyard with an arc welder and a bud light.

GM also sheds parts from its pickups to boost payload ratings

Thu, 31 Jul 2014

The row between Ford and Ram over who boasts the best-in-class tow rating for heavy duty pickups has revealed a number of things. Chief among them is a report that Ford removes items like the spare tire, jack, radio and center console from its vehicles in a bid to lower its base curb weight and therefore keep the truck's gross vehicle weight rating down.
For those that need a refresher, GVWR is the vehicle's curb weight plus its maximum payload. A lower GVWR allows Ford to station its F-450 among the so-called Class III pickups, despite the fact that internally, it has the makings of a more brutish Class IV truck.
Ford explains away these deletions, saying a customer could order their vehicle in such a manner. It has also come to light that Ford is not the only automaker to engage in such practices.

Ford bondage ads reportedly trigger firings at Indian ad agency

Wed, 27 Mar 2013

You will probably remember the ads for the Ford Figo hatchback in India, the ones that showcased the extra large boot of the little hatchback by joking that you can fit three of your enemies in the trunk. One of the ads had Michael Schumacher in the front seat, obviously pleased about having Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso tied up in the back. But the other two had Paris Hilton and ex-Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi up front and three bound and gagged women in the back - in Hilton's case (shown above), it was the Kardashians.
This did not go over well, and Reuters reports that certain employees at JWT India have been fired over the matter. It is also reported that the images weren't actual advertisements, nor were they part of an actual campaign; JWT said they "were never intended for paid publication, were never requested by our Ford client." A JWT rep said the employees who created the ads did so on their own, Ford commented to Automotive News that the ads were "part of a creative exercise intended to test concepts for an advertising competition."
The problem, if the story is to be believed, is that the employees skipped the regular review protocols and uploaded their work to an ad industry site - they were found on Ads of the World. That page, like the employees, has been removed.

Ford Transit gets outfitted for prison duty

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

Between the Taurus-based Police Interceptor, the Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility and the F-150 and Expedition special service vehicles, Ford has no lack of offerings for law enforcement. And now it has one more in the form of the new Transit PTV.
Based on the fullsize Transit van, the Prisoner Transport Vehicle can move as many as 12 prisoners in three separate compartments between detention facilities. Created in collaboration with Pennsylvania-based Havis Prisoner Transport Solutions and with input from Ford's Police Advisory Board, the Transit PTV takes advantage of the Transit's considerable configuration options that include three roof heights, two wheelbases, three lengths and four body-styles - not to mention engine options that include the flex-fuel 3.7-liter V6, 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 3.2-liter Power Stroke diesel.
"Transit PTV is the latest example of Ford's deep commitment to helping provide law enforcement agencies with capable vehicles. This concept proves Transit is upfit-ready and designed to Built Ford Tough standards," said Jonathan Honeycutt, Ford police marketing manager. "Many Police Advisory Board members have had the chance to drive this vehicle and they are excited about it. This new vehicle is tough, smart and efficient - ideal for the needs of law enforcement agencies."
