I bought this truck a couple of years ago and used it to commute to and from work about six miles away.  I have upgraded to a full size truck. This gas-saving tough smaller truck is the XLT model with a roomy four door Supercab.  It has the larger 4.0 V-6 which gives significantly more power than the smaller V-6.  It has a color matched fiberglass top with an adjustable Sport Rac roof rack system.  I installed an NMO antenna mount which will remain with the truck.  I had a 2m NMO ham radio antenna on it, but it will accept any NMO antenna including CB versions.  I have removed my ham radio and placed it on my full size truck.

I am a mechanic and keep up with the regular maintenance needs of both of my vehicles in a timely manner.  For the price and year it is a solid small truck that packs a double punch of engine ability and towing capacity.  It has a few small parking lot dents, but does not look bad at all considering its age and mileage.  For a reliable work truck it just can't be beat.  Call me if you have any questions or want additional photos at 352 446 5863 after 5 pm weekdays or during the day weekends.

The truck runs great and the running gear has been basically rebuilt.  The interior is in good condition.  The driver's seat has some wear and the rest of the interior has minor wear.   The right rear fender wheel is missing the splash guard and the sheet metal is slightly bent.  The left rear corner of the truck has a pretty good dent from some knucklehead when I was parked in a parking lot.  The rest of the body is in good condition with no rust holes and only minor dents.  The tires have about 30% tread left, and the full size spare is in good condition.  Feel free to email me with any questions; you may contact me about seeing the truck in person if you like.

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner

Sat, 24 Aug 2013

For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"

Ford hiring 2,200 salaried US workers this year

Fri, 11 Jan 2013

With its influx of popular new products made in the US, Ford Motor Company has announced that it intends to hire 2,200 new salaried workers domestically this year. This is the biggest increase of salaried workers for Ford in the last 10 years, and it is all a part of Ford's contract commitment to the United Auto Workers union to bring 12,000 new jobs to the US by 2015.
There were no specifics as to where in the US these job openings will be, but Ford did reiterate that it will be spending $773 million on equipment upgrades and capacity expansion at six plants located in southeast Michigan; as a whole, Ford is investing a total of $6.2 billion to its US assembly plants over the next couple years. According to recently appointed president of the Americas Joe Hinrichs, the new jobs will be focused on areas such as engineering, manufacturing and computer software. Ford will post its job openings online at careers.ford.com, and it will also use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to recruit new workers, including military veterans.

Ex-PR chief Vines accuses Ford of bugging cars, phones

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

Jason Vines, former head of communications at Ford among other automakers, is accusing the Blue Oval of bugging his company phone and his car during the Firestone tire recall for the Explorer in 2001. The allegations have come to light in Vines' upcoming book What Did Jesus Drive? Crisis PR in Cars, Computers and Christianity.
According to The Detroit News, which has an advance copy of the book, Vines (pictured above) claims that after leaving the company, someone with security within Ford advised him that he had been bugged around the time of the recall. The allegations don't stop there, though. Vines further contends that he might not have been the only one to get this treatment, noting that then-general counsel John Rintamaki also believed he was being listened to.
According to The Detroit News, even if it had been a company phone, recording Vines without his knowledge still would have been a felony under Michigan law.
