This 1999 S351 Saleen Speedster is perfect. I Purchased the car Summer of 2010. Why a Nut and Bolt restoration. I have only one way of doing cars for myself, the extreme way.I cant and wont settle for fair condition cars. The car was worthy of a full mechanical and exterior restoration even though it didnt need it. The prior owner had many performance upgrades. We returned the car to almost stock condition. I have a Saleen letter documenting the S351S. The car is in the Saleen Regestry under the prior owners name. Saleens Productions Records state the following...

Saleen Mustang 99-0025S
Ford VIN 1FAFP440XF111199
Black Exterior/Dark Charcoal interior convertible with silver graphics.
The car was manufactured with optional 3.55 gears. Housing is stamped 3.55
Saleen floor mats and wheel tire upgrade
Only 1 or 2 with these exact colors and options.
There were a total of 466  Manufactured in 1999. Of the 466 only 46 were S351 s and 26 were convertible and 7 were produced in black.

Body....
Quarters, Doors and Deck lid are still in original body paint. All ground Spoilers were repainted. The Heat Extractor Hood after locating one was restored better than new. All graphics were replaced. Fender Emblems, Grill and Horse and Ford NOS parts. The car was professionally Sanded and Polished. The convertible top is in excellent condition and original. The rear cover was repainted and its perfect. Under Chassis is show detailed and painted.

Interior. Leather seats show usual signs of normal wear. The carpet was replaced with a Ford NOS Carpet set. Shifter Boot and instrument cluster lens and NOS Ford parts. Radio is a new Alpine unit.

Mechanically after finding the correct type engine and parts received a full rebuild. All engine bearings (standard) new, upgraded DSS pistons and a TFS Stage 2 Camshaft. Correct TFS Twisted Wedge Heads. The engine was professionally rebuild by our areas leading Ford Performance Re builder.  Correct Upper and Lower GT 40 Intake. 65 mm Throttle Body. Vortech Upgraded T Trim supercharger rebuilt by Vortech. Most to all engine hardware was re plated gold or clear cad. The Supercharger, intake and may parts I had show polished. Exhaust.... Ford Racing shorty stainless headers, BBK H Pipe and Saleen Cat Back. (I could not find the original style machine gun tip tailpipes) The under hood presentation is mind blowing.

Drive line received a full mechanical restoration. Aluminum Flywheel, Centerforce Stage 2 clutch, T/O bearing, Full Transmission Refresh including all bearings. New Ford Clutch Cable..Rear Diff received all bearings and a fresh Ford Racing Gearset. All oils are Syentetic. Driveshaft is original Aluminum custom S351. All Drive line parts are show detailed, painted after stripping and most hardware plated.

Cooling system. I re designed the problem prone fan circuitry. A under fender 75 Amp fan Relay with an standalone fan switch was used. The radiator is original S351. All Hoses replaced.

Fuel System. A know problem with the S351. I used an Upgraded 03 04 Cobra Fuel tank with dual pumps. Relocated the EVap Module to the L/H side behind the wheel. Use the original 99 fuel feed line. Upgraded the return line to braided stainless steel Teflon. I also upgraded the fuel circuit using a 10 gauge feed wire and a 75 amp Relay. This fuel system will support in excess of 600 RWHP.

Air Conditioning. Just to make sure all stones were turned over. I replaced the evaporator core, condenser, accumulator and hose. Also the car has a new AC compressor.

The trunk has the all the evap cooling tubing. Quite a ton of effort to get it Federal Emissions Certified. Interesting to me is the fact that using the E Series 96 Van ecu with only one downstream Cat monitor input. The car needs 2 sensors ! Someone missed that during the certification process...

Suspension is all rebuilt. Control arms are re bushed. New ball joints, tie rod ends, Correct Saleen springs and Struts on all 4 corners. Rear control arms are new, all hardware was cad plated and all suspension parts including the Saleen  modified engine cradle is Powder Coated.

Breaks are Saleen S351. All parts are Power Coated and Cad Plated. ABS Module is a Ford NOS part. The Master Cylinder is a new replacement part.

Wheel and Tires are used. Some signs of ware and a few chips. Tires are Yokohama Front 265/35/ZR18 and Rear 295/35/ZR18 Tread dept on average 7/32 to 8/32 inch.

Electrically all circuits that were Saleen Modified were re wired. I was quite surprised at the questionable re wiring that Saleen had done. I found a ecu circuit  on the the wrong ECU pin. I have over 120 hours re wiring the saleen engine and dash ecu. I even took the time to rewire the dash ECU with a removalble 104 pin plug and wired a second DTC plug for body module communication and diagnostics. The Saleen is now Pats functional and the Dash (under seat) ECU is re flashable. I believe that there is no one more knowledgeable on the Dual Ford ECU S351 wiring that I. I found it interesting and educational. Got to hand it to Saleen. To outfit a Mustang with the last pushrod engine in the years of the mod motors was incredible.

Keep in mind much of this work was un needed. I wanted an S351 like no other. Here it is....

Mulally will stay close to Ford after he steps down, plans to advise Fields [w/video]

Fri, 27 Jun 2014

Ford CEO Alan Mulally has less than a week left in his role of leading the Blue Oval before he hands off duties to Mark Fields on July 1. It doesn't look like Mulally is going to be shuffling off into his retirement anytime soon, though. The 68-year-old is being rather secretive about his next move, but he tells Bloomberg in a recent interview that he plans to stay close to Ford. Also, if Fields wants to ask for any advice, Mulally is happy to help.
Mulally took over at Ford in 2006 and led the company through a seriously rough patch in the auto industry. According to Bloomberg, he became famous or his Thursday meetings where executives were forced to deal with any problems before they could leave. Since announcing his retirement from Ford in May, Mulally has been insuring a smooth transition of power by traveling the world to all of company's major locations and saying goodbye to employees and dealers.
In terms of the future at Ford, Mulally doesn't predict any big changes in management style because the rest of the executive team is staying in place. He believes that Fields is going to maintain the processes already in place to keep things going. After all, it seems to be working. The company is predicting a return to profitability in Europe next year and is opening 88 new dealers in China. If the business could get its recalls under control, things could get even better.

Ford invests $682 million in Edge-producing Canadian facility

Sun, 22 Sep 2013

Ford announced that it's investing $682 million in its Oakville assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, to make it a global manufacturing plant, which the automaker also says secures 2,800 jobs there. Including this injection of cash, Ford has invested over $2 billion in Canada in the last decade, starting with nearly $1 billion for Oakville in 2004, and over $570 million for its Essex Engine Plant in 2010.
The move to make Oakville a global manufacturer of Ford vehicles means, "If consumers suddenly shift their buying habits, we can seamlessly change our production mix without having to idle a plant," says Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas.
Ford says that the latest investment will help it meet North American demand for the Oakville-produced Edge crossover, which is on track this year to beat 2007's US sales record of 130,000 Edges. The Ford Flex and Lincoln MKX and MKT are also manufactured at the plant.

Ford talking unibody Ranger replacement

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Now here's some welcome news. Car and Driver reports Ford is seriously mulling a replacement for the recently deceased Ranger, but the successor to the compact pickup's throne may not look anything like what we've seen from the nameplate in the past.
While speaking at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Doug Scott, marketing manager for Ford Trucks, said there's still a market for a smaller pickup, but that buyers expect to see a larger differentiation between the smaller utility vehicles and their full size counterparts in price, capability and fuel economy.
According to Scott, that means a vehicle with a payload capacity of around 1,000 pounds paired with a towing capacity of 3,000 pounds and "a dramatic reduction in fuel consumption." But the biggest piece of that recipe is the price tag, and Scott says to keep the MSRP far enough away from the already cheap F-150, the answer could come in the form of a unibody design. Scott says target customers in this market don't care whether the truck has a traditional frame or not, so long as it's tough enough to do the job and has the capability they need.
