This is an outstanding example of a turn-key 1931 Model A Highboy Hot Rod. Small block Chevy power with 700R4 overdrive transmission makes this car an outstanding driver anyone would want to own.

Built lovingly over a 13 year period by owner who is a professional mechanic/builder that has over 50 years’ experience for his personal hot rod. Unfortunately the owner must sell his “baby” due to health reasons. This car has less than 4,500 miles on it but the owner continues to upgrade the car with new state of the art equipment.

DETAILS:
• Body: Original 1931 Ford Coupe, all steel, no rust, not cut, chopped or channeled. 32 steel grill shell with stainless grill. One piece hood painted to match; must remove two flag holders to mount the hood.
• Frame: A new Pete & Jakes custom frame was selected to provide a firm foundation for this build. The frame is painted dark blue towards the rear of the car but fades to silver at the firewall forward to accent the engine and front suspension.
• Engine: 1972 400 Cubic Inch Police Interceptor Chevrolet block with less than 4,500 miles since total rebuild; the block was in excellent condition; was not bored but simply honed and reassembled with all original GM parts. The 400 P block is a 4 bolt main; very heavy duty. The camshaft is an Iskenderian 270 Mega hydraulic flat tappet giving the engine a nice lope. The intake is Wieland high rise two-four manifold with two new chromed 550 CFM Edelbrock carburetors with progressive linkage. The ignition is a HEI Magneto-look distributor with MSD Ignition control unit.
• Transmission: General Motors 700R4 professionally rebuilt with less than 4,500 miles on it since the build. The shift is smooth but crisp allowing the car to quickly accelerate when desired yet cruse all day at low rpms at 65MPH.
• Mileage: The car has 4,199 miles since a total build. The car continues to be refreshed and upgraded since the completion in 1998 of a 13 year build.
• Paint: Excellent Corvette dark blue metallic paint two stage (basecoat / clearcoat). I went over this car with great care and found one small ding and no chips; this paint is great looking.
• Chrome: the chrome/stainless is in very good condition.
• Glass: All glass is good all-around with no chips or scratches.
• Top Insert: Vinyl insert is in excellent condition
• Headliner: Custom made oak bows highlight a very good looking headliner with grey cloth.
• Dash: Hand crafted Oak dash, stained with a dark stain and sealed with clear.
• Seats: Matching bucket seats, upholstered with blue cloth that matches the door panels.
• Door Panels: Excellent condition upholstered with blue cloth.
• Door / Trunk Locks: All handles are key operated and function smoothly to allow the car to be safely secured when parked or stored.
• Kick Panels: Excellent condition upholstered with blue cloth and grey carpeting.
• Area Behind Seats: Very nicely fabricated oak accent piece with blue fabric matching the rest of the interior.
• Shifter: B & M shifter with gear indicator on the side of the floor plate; unique shifter knob made out of a microphone, very cool.
• Carpeting: Grey loop carpet in excellent condition.
• Gauges: VDO gauges with gold bezels; each work and are easy to read; Autometer 0-8000 Tachometer mounted on the steering column.
• Radio: Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette/XM radio installed in an oak overhead console (40W x 4) with 100 Amp Concord CA50-2 Amplifier. Left switch on console operates windshield wipers, right switch next to radio operates dome light and the last switch on the right is vacant.
• Trunk: Fully upholstered trunk in blue material housing the stereo amplifier, mini-spare tire and jack and special access for the fuel tank.
• Fuel Tank: Custom made 12 gallon tank with the fuel filler located in the trunk.
• Front Suspension: The front suspension is a 4 inch dropped tubular beam axel with 4-link support, chrome shocks and a transverse spring.  Disk brakes, early 70s GM just redone; dual manual master cylinder.
• Rear Suspension: 1957 Chevrolet rear end with 3.73 gears and heavy duty axels, coil-over springs and 4-link suspension. Drum brakes just redone.
• Exhaust: Lakes style stainless headers with 3 1/2 inch collectors that are capped. Stainless exhaust runs under frame through polished stainless mufflers to exit through custom aluminum tips at the rear of the car.
• Wheels and Tires: Chrome 2004 era Corvette Chrome Wheels, 17 x 9 in front and 18 x 10 in rear. All tires are brand new TOYO with less than 100 miles on them. The fronts are 205/45ZR17s and the rears are 295/45R18s.
• Personalized License Plates: Do not go with the car but remain with the builder/seller.

Alan Mulally talks about why Ford's Falcon had to die

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

When Ford made the decision to end production of the Falcon sedan and Territory CUV in Australia, it wasn't a popular move Down Under. The large, four-door Falcon had been in production for 50 years, and while Ford has reaffirmed its commitment to the Australian market, it's understandable that some people still aren't all that crazy about the Blue Oval's decision.
Speaking to CEO Alan Mulally after Ford's Go Further event in Sydney, Australian site Go Auto reports that the decision was not one made lightly, and that the automaker is doing everything possible to respect the Falcon and Territory's "stakeholders." It's an interesting piece that shows a softer side of a corporation, while demonstrating that Ford is doing everything in its power to make the end of production as smooth as possible for all parties.
Head over to Go Auto for the full series of remarks from Mulally, and then let us know what you think of Ford's handling of the Falcon and Territory discontinuations, in Comments.

Motor Trend pits Subaru WRX vs. Ford Focus ST

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

The Ford Focus ST has enjoyed a relatively calm, if brief, reign in the world of hot hatches. With nothing else in the class (in the States, at least) but the aging Mazdaspeed3 and Subaru Impreza WRX and the slow-selling Volkswagen Golf R, the Blue Oval's 252-horsepower five door has been the go-to vehicle for those that don't need the high-octane lunacy (and expense) of the rally bred Subaru Impreza WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.
Now, though, as the new Subaru WRX (it's not an Impreza anymore, though, neither is it a hatchback...) starts to arrive at dealers, the Focus ST appears to be under threat for the first time. Naturally, Motor Trend is here to figure out which one is the best, with another one of its Head 2 Head videos. Host Jonny Lieberman puts both cars through their paces, going above and beyond, quite literally, at the very end of the video.
Have a look below and let us know what you think of MT's verdict in Comments.

Detroit automakers observing 8:46 of silence to mark Juneteenth

Fri, Jun 19 2020

GM Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing Gerald Johnson, right, talks with employees at the Fairfax Assembly & Stamping Plant in Kansas City, Kansas. (file photo - GM) Β  Β  All three Detroit automakers are observing Juneteenth, a day commemorating the end of slavery, on Friday by observing 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence, among other companywide efforts to advance the causes of social and racial justice and equality. Juneteenth marks the date, June 19, in 1865 when Union soldiers, led by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger, arrived at Galveston, Texas, and announced the Civil War had ended and enslaved African Americans were to be freed. President Abraham Lincoln had officially ended slavery more than two years prior via the Emancipation Proclamation, but Union forces didn't reach Texas until that time, so there was virtually no enforcement. The 8:46 timestamp is significant because it was the length of time that a police officer in Minneapolis knelt on the neck of George Floyd during an arrest, ultimately killing him and sparking waves of protests across the U.S. and overseas. Autoblog asked automakers about their plans to mark Juneteenth, what they were doing to advance the cause of social justice for Black people, and how many African Americans they employ in both blue- and white-collar jobs. We heard back from GM, Ford, Fiat Chrysler and Honda but not from Nissan and Toyota. General Motors GM’s U.S. workforce is 17.2% Black and 69.2% white, according to its most recent corporate Diversity and Inclusion Report. GM's total global employment is 173,000, and it says women and minorities represent 40% of its team of corporate officers. For reference, the Census Bureau says African Americans make up 13.4% of the U.S. population of roughly 328 million people. White people constitute 76.5%. As previously reported, GM planned to pause production at its factories on each shift today and observe silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. The company will also have a digital countdown clock atop the GM's headquarters in Detroit for the moment of silence. Additionally, Chairman and CEO Mary Barra has said she will lead a new Inclusion Advisory Board made up of people from within and outside GM to suggest areas for change and hold the company to its commitments to fight injustice and racial inequality.
