This is my "barn find", but I'm just never going to get to it with all the other projects, so it's time to let someone else restore and enjoy the car.  I purchased this car in eastern Nebraska from the grandson of the original owner about 30 miles from the town where it was originally sold off the lot.  Before I purchased it, it was garage kept for approximately 60 years.  The grandson remembers taking trips out to the west coast with his grandparents in this very car.  He wasn't 100% sure why it was parked, but my guess is that the engine is just plain worn out.  It turns over, but compression seems to be very low.  You won't find many originals with the body in this kind of condition.  The pictures tell the story, but the wood and the metal are some of the most solid I have ever seen (used to restore these professionally).

Now for the details.  This is a very early 1929 Model A Fordor Leatherback with a Briggs body.  From what I can tell, everything is there except for the original horn and the radiator cap.  As I mentioned, the motor is free and so are all the wheels.  The transmission does shift as well.  The glass is all original and will need to be replaced.  The main wood pieces seem to be very solid.  There are bits and pieces of the wood that will need to be replaced (top kit, seat rails, see pics).  As you can also see in the pictures there is a little bit of rust in the cowl area and in the floor pan, but this is all an easy repair.  I do have a clean title.  There is not much more to say that the pictures don't tell.  Please contact me with any questions.

This is an original car that is 85 years old, so please understand that what you see is what you get.  I can only tell you what I have seen from the little that I have played with the car; and I cannot guarantee that I have listed all of the issues that you will run into when you restore this beauty.  The bottom line is that this car needs a complete restoration, but it's a great starting point for doing one!  There is no warranty, and no return on this vehicle; but I will be happy to answer any questions or provide other pictures upon request.  You are also welcome to view the car prior to bidding if you can arrange it.  Buyer is responsible for pick up or for arranging transport.  Non-refundable deposit of $500 required through PayPal within 3 days of auction end.  Remainder must be paid by PayPal or cash prior to or at pick up.

Production Ford Escort heading for Beijing

Wed, 16 Apr 2014

Ford's long-dormant Escort nameplate returned affixed to a sedan concept at last year's Shanghai Motor Show. While not exactly a beauty, it showed a clean, straightforward take on Ford's current styling. The Blue Oval said at the time that it wanted to create a model that was stylish "but not one that is arrogant or pretentious." Job done. A year later, it looks like the minimalist vehicle might make its production debut at the Beijing Motor Show.
Autocar claims that the streetgoing version has been confirmed to it for the upcoming show, but so far, Ford isn't saying. If unveiled, the Escort is likely to be produced locally for the Chinese market with a domestic partner. Powertrain details remain a secret, but it seems highly likely that any production model would use a small three- or four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. Sales in other major world markets like ours are unlikely, but a test car was recently spotted in Europe.
Autoblog contacted Ford for confirmation, but the automaker demurred, with a spokesperson saying only, "At the moment, we are not confirming any vehicles planned for the show." It looks like we will have to wait to know for sure.

Ford rethinking vehicle launch strategy

Tue, 07 May 2013

With a new boss at the helm, Ford is looking at new ways to improve its vehicle launches in North America to prevent recent issues that have popped up with models like the Lincoln MKZ, Ford Escape and Ford Fusion. Speaking with Automotive News, Ford's new president of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs, revealed a few ways the automaker plans to avoid early build issues such as the engine fires on certain 2013 Escape and Fusion models and months-long delays for customers to receive their MKZs.
It sounds like the root of the problems may have been Ford's relationship with suppliers compounded by the fact that the product surge came on the heels of the recent industry-crippling recession, and in the AN article, Hinrichs says improvements are being made to reduce problems during the launch of new or redesigned models. Three such improvements that were implemented during the first quarter of this year including more rigorous quality comparisons, better use of computer technology to catch major problems sooner and hiring engineers to work closer with suppliers.
