I have owned this very cool 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL convertible for 6 years, and with a new infant on the way, my wife has told me I can't drive around the little person in a convertible. So I am regretfully selling to purchase a hard top. First off, this car is a serious attention getter. When I am cruising at normal ride height, it looks like a fairly stock Galaxie convertible, but when I pull into a car show or even park on the street, and fully lower the car, it takes the car to a whole new level. It starts right up, drives really nice, and stops well. I will try to describe the car to the best of my knowledge since I have owned the car. This Galaxie has some great rare options. Front bumper guards, original air conditioning (fan and blower works but not recharged). Stainless fender skirts (not currently on the car, but included) White convertible power top, (replaced by previous owner) the original convertible top boot plus an aftermarket one a remote trunk lid release, parking brake warning light, and the holy grail of 62 Galaxie options, the center hood ornament. (see 62ford.com, options)
I have had the following items done since I purchased the car, and have receipts for all work performed which will be included.
Motor: rebuilt carb, vacuum advance, upgraded to alternator, electronic ignition, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, fuel pump, oil sender and master cylinder. ($1,404) Transmission, rear seal.
Brakes: shoes, front and rear wheel cylinders, drums, and rear axle bearings. ($1,562.00)
Air Ride, custom system professionaly installed by San Diego Rod and Customs. Rear frame notched but nothing else cut, all sheet metal intact. All new exhaust system and mufflers font to back. Recently had the whole system tuned up with new valves, leak checked and relays. ($5,594.00)
Bumpers rechromed. ($900.00) Rear trim panel molding replaced ($354.00) New tires. Custom sound system installed, all speakers hidden in the original locations except for custom kick panels to match. The Pioneer USB/Bluetooth receiver is hidden in the glove box and the 10" subwoofer is hidden in the truck, so the interior looks stock. ($3,349.00)
I purchased the car with 61K miles and now the car has 64K miles. The previous owner (who purchased the car from the original owner) told me the paint and interior are original and the odometer had not turned over. The paint is what I would call "15 footer" paint. There are some scratches and places where the paint has been rubbed, but it shows well sitting at car shows and doesn't detract from the attention. The interior is fantastic, no rips or tears, and the mylar in the doors is perfect. Some of the strips in the rear seat show wear. Carpet is discolored in some spots and the original seat foam sometimes crumbles out. All the stainless trim on the car is nice, the passenger side rocker trim isn't perfectly straight and is detached slightly from the body. All the gauges and dash are in nice original condition. One of the knob bezels is broken. The switches for the air ride are in the glove box. There is some pinstripping on the air cleaner and glove box cover but this can be removed to suit your taste.
I'm sure i'm forgetting some items, and I am happy to answer questons or send more pictures. The car is for sale locally and the auction will end if sold. I am happy to assist with shipping and also to show the car in person.
Thanks for looking!

Here's your chance to vote for the best-looking state police cruiser
Thu, Jul 18 2019Across the country, state police generally drive the same types of vehicles. Right now, the most common cruisers are Ford Explorers, Chevrolet Tahoes, and Dodge Chargers, with some exceptions sprinkled in. The differentiation comes through in the livery, which can range from simplistic badging to busy stripes. Each year, the American Association of State Troopers (AAST) holds a fun contest to determine which state has the coolest-looking cars, and 2019 voting has just opened. We discovered the contest after Motor1 posted about the Florida Highway Patrol's newest addition to its fleet, a Dodge Challenger R/T. The musclemobile is, without question, the coolest car in the competition, and it might have the best livery too. But that doesn't mean it's going to win, as contests like this often turn into hotbeds for chest-beating homers. The AAST is posting results on Facebook, and as of July 17, 2019, Kentucky and Nebraska are blowing the rest of the states out of the water. Florida is in ninth place with 4,653 votes compared to first-place Kentucky's 14,699. New Jersey is in last place with only 107 votes. As the internet goes, this will likely be determined by how many times the contest is shared across social media. The Challenger isn't the only eye candy, either. Not every state participated, but those that did came correct with the photography, including Nebraska posing its car in front of a freakin' tornado. Others staged their cars with helicopters in the background, some set the car in front of the gorgeous landscapes their states have to offer, and others posed with dogs. Because who doesn't love dogs? No matter which car wins, it's cool to see the various designs all in one place. Check out the gallery above and vote for your favorite on the AAST's survey. The survey will close on July 30, 2019.
Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis LS
Sat, Jan 21 2023Ford's now-defunct Mercury Division first began using the Marquis name in 1967, on a sporty full-size hardtop based on the Ford LTD, then began offering the Grand Marquis beginning in the 1979 model year. These big, boxy luxury sedans were replaced by big, curvy luxury sedans (on the same platform) starting with the 1992 model year, so today's Junkyard Gem is one of the very last squared-off Grand Marquises ever built. The 1991 Grand Marquis (or "Grandma Keith," as many refer to it today) looks nearly identical to its 1979 predecessor at a glance, just as the 2011 model doesn't differ much from the 1992 model. Ford saw no reason to follow short-lived fashion trends with its simple, sturdy rear-wheel-drive sedan. Only two Grand Marquis trim levels were available for 1991: the base GS and the (somewhat) upscale LS. The former listed at $18,741 and the latter at $19,241, which comes to about $41,494 and $42,601, respectively, in inflated 2022 dollars). This interior would have seemed comfortingly familiar to a 1968 (or even 1958) Mercury owner time-traveling to 1991. This is the optional "full grain leather seating surface," which cost an extra $489 (about $1,083 today). Dig those opera lights! Air conditioning was standard equipment in the 1991 Grand Marquis and its wagon counterpart, the Colony Park. The engine is the good old pushrod 5.0-liter Windsor V8, which would be replaced by a far more modern 4.6-liter SOHC mill in the '92 Grand Marquis. This engine was rated at 180 horsepower. A four-speed automatic was the only transmission available. The early 1990s ended up being the last gasp for padded vinyl roofs being considered mainstream equipment on new Detroit cars; this one was called the "Formal Coach" roof and cost an additional 725 bucks ($1,605 now). Such roofs were still available on a few cars later in the decade, but their time had passed. Why would such a clean Grandma Keith end up in a place like this? That's easy: it got T-boned directly into the right front wheel, mangling the body and bending up the suspension. This damage might have been worth fixing when the car was five years old, but it's a write-off when it happens to a 31-year-old Ford Panther. 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis Commercial - Savings Ad The granddaddy of them all, and on sale in South Texas! 2016 Ford Fusion hybrid, plug-in getting $900 price cut
Thu, Feb 19 2015While the overall the green car market in the US suffered a slump in 2014 with a 6.5-percent drop in sales, the demand for electric vehicles and plug-ins actually jumped a healthy 28 percent. The Ford Fusion Energi plug-in was among the winners in the segment with a nearly 90 percent boost to 11,550 examples sold for the year. To keep the ball rolling in the face of low gas prices and updated challengers entering the field, the Blue Oval is slashing $900 off the cost of both the Energi and standard Fusion Hybrid to make them even more attractive to buyers. Ford's Monique Brentley told Autoblog that, the reduction was done, "basically, just to attract more customers and promote sales." The cut affects every trim of both electrically assisted versions of the Fusion for the 2016 model year, according to Cars Direct, and it comes without the removal of standard equipment. On the contrary, the Energi reportedly gets a new EcoSelect driving mode that activates additional regenerative braking and more gentle acceleration. The $900 pricing adjustment is only for these models and not available on the versions with only an internal combustion engine, which makes it clear Ford wants to tantalize green car buyers towards this pair. According to Cars Direct, the models should go on sale in late 2015. The least expensive 2016 Fusion Hybrid S will retail for $25,675, plus $825 destination on all of them, and a 2016 Energi start at $33,900. Autoblog's own pricing pages for them show the same numbers (here and here). Cars Direct also predicts for the Blue Oval to keep most incentives in place even after the adjustment. Assuming these figures don't change before the sedans actually go on sale, the price cut makes a 2016 Energi less expensive than a 2015 Chevrolet Volt starting at $34,345 (plus $825 destination). The cost of the updated 2016 model for the Chevy isn't announced yet.
