Hello, this auction is for a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 2 door sedan.  If you are wanting to build a Thunderbolt clone this is the exact car you need.  All of the original Thunderbolts were 2 door post cars with the deluxe 500 trim.  This car is very straight and with minor bodywork it could be painted.  The only real dent in the car is on the passenger side near the corner of the back bumper.  It is visible in the pictures. Currently this car runs and drives, it has a 289 2 barrel engine and a 3 speed manual transmission.  I bought this car from the second owner and it was sold new here in the central valley.  The car has no rust and no rust repair. Both the front and rear frame section show no signs of damage and on the underside of the car you can still see some of the original gold/silver paint.  The previous owner bought the car from the original owners estate in 2002, he did quite a bit of work to the car to make it roadworthy as it had been sitting in a carport since 1983. ( I still have 1 of the original black plates with the 1983 sticker and the dealers license plate frame).

The work done to this car in 2002 by the previous owner is as follows:

1. Complete brake system rebuild.  All 4 wheel cylinders and the master cylinder were replaced.  In addition both the metal brake lines and the flex hoses were replaced.

2. 4 new Wheel Ventiques steel wheels were installed. The rears are 15x8 and the fronts are 15x7 both have reverse offset. New BFG TA radials were installed at this time too and the tread is still good but they do have some cracks.

3.  Coolant was flushed and oil was changed in both the rear axle and the transmission.  Also the fuel tank was professionally cleaned.

4.  Front and rear seat were reupholstered in tan cloth.

5.  The door jambs and the dash were repainted white.  Also the exterior of the car was primered.  When I got the car it was faded so I reprimed the car with PCL epoxy flat white primer.

Last week I rebuilt the carburetor, and replaced the fuel pump, the car runs well.  Included in the auction is the 4 original door panels with armrests ( The armrests are in good condition but during storage the door panels got wet so they are really only good for patterns) and a new heater core.  I also have the windshield wiper arms and the inside door handles and window cranks.  The original air cleaner is the only item missing.

Payment & Shipping: Cash and local pickup is always preferred.  If you are a long distance away I will be happy to work with you on shipping, however I would like the car to be picked up within 14 days of auction close.  A $250 deposit via PayPal is due within 48 hours of auction close.  If you don't use PayPal, please send me a message and I will be happy to work something else out with you.

Trades: Like everything else I have for sale I would entertain a full or part trade. No pickups, motorcycles or cars newer then the 1970's.

If you have any questions or would like to see more pictures of the car please feel free to e-mail or call 559-313-1454. Thanks Jeff.

Junkyard Gem: 1973 Mercury Marquis Brougham 4-Door Pillared Hardtop

Tue, Nov 7 2023

Ford's Mercury Division debuted the Marquis in the 1967 model year, as a sporty coupe based on a stretched Ford LTD chassis. When the LTD got an update for 1969, so did the Marquis, and production of that generation of the top-of-the-line Mercury continued through 1978 (the Grand Marquis hit streets the following year). The 1969-1978 Marquis was a big, imposing land yacht, and the Brougham version came absolutely loaded with affordable luxury. Today's Junkyard Gem is a Marquis Brougham from the first year of the Malaise Era, found in a Phoenix self-service car graveyard recently. This car appears to have spent decades sitting outdoors in one of the harshest climates in the country, and so it's in rough shape. The vinyl top received the full thermonuclear treatment and is mostly obliterated by now. The interior got thoroughly cooked as well. Still, its original opulence shines through if you use some imagination. What hurts is that this car was packed with most of the good options, including the mighty 460-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 engine with four-barrel carburetor. The price for the 460 was just $76 in this car, or around $548 in today's money. The base engine was a 429 (7.0-liter). Power numbers were way down for 1973 when compared to a couple of years earlier, partly as the result of tightening emissions standards but mostly due to the switch from gross to net power ratings that began midway during 1971 and was completed by the end of 1972. This engine was rated at 202 horsepower and 330 pound-feet. The only transmission available was a three-speed automatic. We can assume that the original buyer of this car and its single-digit fuel economy had a rough time when the OPEC oil embargo hit in the fall of 1973. Believe it or not, air conditioning was not standard equipment on the '73 Marquis Brougham (you had to move up to a Lincoln for that). This one even has the automatic temperature control feature, adding a total of $508 to the cost of this car (about $3,661 in 2023 dollars). That AM/FM/8-track radio—or, in fact, any radio—was an extra-cost option as well, with a price tag of $363 ($2,616 after inflation). The MSRP for the 1973 Marquis Brougham sedan (known as a "pillared hardtop" thanks to the frameless window glass) was $5,072, which comes to $36,555 in today's dollars. Obviously, its out-the-door cost would have been much higher with all the options.

1 in 7 Americans say they might buy an EV next, as sales of electrics surge

Wed, Apr 26 2017

About one in seven driving Americans may likely purchase an electric vehicle as their next car, according to an AAA poll, meaning that as many as 30 million Americans may pony up for an EV within the next three to five years. While some of the motivation is environmental, survey recipients say that lower maintenance expenses and solo access to high-occupancy-vehicle lanes are also among the factors behind potentially going electric. Take a look at the AAA press release on the study here. The poll indicates that about as many people are planning to buy an EV for their next car as are looking to buy a pickup, which is impressive given that the best-selling US vehicle is the Ford F-150. And things should only improve, as about 20 percent of millennials polled said that their next car would probably be an EV. The results are all the more encouraging, at least among green-car advocates, because gas prices have fallen about 40 percent within the past five years, meaning that there's less of an incentive to go electric from a purely economic perspective. Through the first quarter of this year, US plug-in vehicle sales were up about 63 percent from a year earlier to about 39,000 vehicles. Meanwhile, when it came to AAA's annual green-vehicle awards for this year, Tesla's Model S and Model X took the large car and SUV categories, respectively, while the Chevrolet Bolt and Volkswagen e-Golf were listed atop the subcompact and compact lists. The Lexus GS 450h hybrid and the Ford F-150 took home AAA's best green vehicle in the midsize and pickup truck categories. Related Video:

Ford GT40 makes historic return to racing at Goodwood

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

Is there a more iconic, American racecar than the Ford GT40? That may be a discussion for another day (although by all means, tell us how wrong we are in Comments), but this video of heaps of GT40s running in the Goodwood Revival races certainly has us thinking that Ford's Ferrari-killer might just be the best racer the Land Of The Free and Home Of The Brave has ever come up with.
That's completely ignoring the fact that the GT40 was largely developed by Brits using American money, but that's besides the point (there was also a rather brash Texan, who had a big role later in development). The resulting vehicle was dominant, besting the cars of Il Commendatore from 1966 to 1969, although it should be noted that Ford's GT40 was unable to beat Ferrari in its first two Le Mans outings in 1964 and 1965.
Those four years of dominance, which started with Ford sweeping the podium, were enough to establish the GT40's legend. And now, here we are almost 50 years later, celebrating the mid-engined monsters at Goodwood, in their first ever one-make race. Take a look below for the entire video.
